American Music Awards Fug or Fab Carpet: Rihanna

fug-or-fab

I saw this dress Rihanna is wearing at the Marchesa presentation at the most recent fashion week. I don’t remember it being this…leg-tastic/nip-slip-adjacent:

That being said, I was also skulking around the presentation trying to figure out if Blake Lively was actually wearing lace hotpants (of course she was) while juggling: a glass of champagne, my camera, my notebook, and my phone, on which I was texting Heather things like, “BLAKE LIVELY IS WEARING LACE HOTPANTS.” So, as usual, I have really no idea what I am talking about. HOWEVER, I do know the following:

1) I haven’t seen her look this happy in a long time. That smile is a fabulous accessory, regardless of her outfit.

2) This dress reminds me of those paper cut-outs we used to make in school, where you’d snip snip snip and then have an adorable little chain of paper people holding hands. Except. You know. Way more complex.

3) I kind of wish the non-snipped out portion was a weeeeeeee tiny teeeensy bit longer, because wondering whether or not she’s wearing a leotard/what is in place to keep her from flashing us is distracting me.

4) I suspect that if I were hanging out with a woman wearing this dress, it would be almost impossible for me to resist flicking small items into the fluted bodice, like peas and tiny candies. It’s like the world’s most expensive mini-basketball hoop. (I say this as a woman who found an M&M in her bra yesterday. I DID NOT eat it. [Please. I totally ate it.])

5) It IS kind of technically amazing.

That being said….

Speaking of potential nipple slips, did you happen to catch RiRi’s performance ensemble? (It’s safe for work…technically.)

Hey! That’s what I’m wearing to my parents house for Thanksgiving! It’s such a small world, you guys.

Good LORD how does she keep her bits covered? Please tell me there is a body suit under that stripey monstrosity!! Sadly, I believe it’s all skin.

  2. lorrwill

Oh great now she is channeling both Lady Gaga and that chainsaw massacre orange thing Katy Perry (I think it was her) wore. Then we get the mummy disaster that is more than a dash of Bai Ling. In other words, Oh Hell No.

  3. Stephanie

I was going to comment that I hated the first dress, but in comparison to the second, it’s OUTSTANDING.

Mother of god, who would wear band-aids as clothing?? That’s BARELY covering her lady bits. Actually, I don’t even think it is.

So in retrospect, I LOVE the first outfit, just with the non-cutout part was a wee bit longer. Because the idea – fantastic. The execution – slightly slutty.

  4. Cecily

Cut-out waaaaaaaaaaay too high up and distracting, and the entire dress reminds me of an intricately folded napkin on my place setting, say, at a black-tie for The Annual Origami Awards.

That second get-up just scares me. She seems to favor outfits that look like levelor blinds. And are those triangular spiked shoulder pads? WOW. Just WOW.

  5. M.Amanda

The dress could be so awesome and I agree about the great smile, but I feel like she can’t decide what to flaunt. “Hey look, my hair is more orangey now! And look at my legs! And don’t forget that we are now trying to make white shoes trendy and cool! And I’m a makeup rebel!” Did you see the closeups of her face with the pointy eyelashes and pink eyeliner? How many statements can one woman make in a single photograph?

  6. Marcia

Number one should have been longer and number two should be reserved for the never to be seen sequel to The Fifth Element.

  7. Emily

That Marchesa dress is beautiful and intricate. I love the black and white. However, the actual dress part (the 8 inches of non-cutout material) looks a bit misshapen or badly tailored or something. Maybe Rihanna is just standing strangely because she is hella paranoid about flashing her parts or about someone throwing things into her makeshift b-ball hoop. Either way, not that flattering. Also, those shoes are a bit too old Hollywood glamour for Rihanna. Her hair looks, as usual, like a deflated Mohawk and said deflated Mohawk does not pair well with sleek white ankle strap pumps.

  8. jocelyn

I don’t need to know this much about Rhianna!

  9. Christy

I kind of think the dress would have been better if it weren’t stark white on the inside. It’s too close to printer paper. You know what would have been cool? Cobalt blue. And…same concept, but less.

The second picture made my vagina cringe.

  10. Courtney

I think the cutout-dress has some fabulous potential, but I’m bothered by the seams. If you’re going to have the inside of the dress be so visible, on purpose, that you make it a different, contrasting color, cut holes in the dress, cut the hem high, and cut it stiff so it flares about, you should be thinking “reversible”. As in, no visible black-on-white seams, and especially no visible black-on-white seams edged with pinking shears.

As for the bandages… there has to be *something* holding it together, right? Or they’d be sliding all over? They wouldn’t stay nicely spaced without help, right?

  11. Emmy

I absolutely adore the dress. I think that it’s the epitome of tastefully avant garde. I am generally pretty prudish about exposed lady bits, and maybe, MAYBE could use another 2 inches of material, but I feel confident that there’s a body suit involved. And, I don’t know, I feel like this is the good kind of risque. Or maybe it’s just so beautiful and intricate I’m excusing more than I usually do. Regardless: Gorgeous!

(The less said about the band-aids the better.)

  12. Meghan

you have to admit, that even though what she’s wearing is bat-sh** crazy, the girl looks FIERCE!

  13. Claire's mom

Ri’s dress is inspired – how else to dip your toe back in the dating world than to wear something that compels people to finger it? OK, I can see this going along a path of rudeness that I just don’t want to skip down first thing on Monday.

I THINK there is a nude body suit under that Johnson & Johnson’s first-aid tape jumpsuit (click twice on pic to get super-mega close up – it seems start at the nipple-covering piece of tapeage), but still. Ri and a lot of other young folk must be dyslexic or confused. It’s “LESS=MORE”, people, not “MORE=PRESS”. Or maybe I’m missing the point.

    And that M&M? Awesome.

  14. ISBN

I ate a smartie I found in my bra this morning. at about 7 AM. it was NOT from last night. (please. it totally was.)

  15. Emmy

I absolutely adore the dress. To me it is tastefully avant garde. I usually am pretty prudish about exposed lady bits, but I have myself convinced that there’s a body suit involved, and so long as that is the case, it’s okay by me. It’s a little bit scandalous, sure, but I think it’s intriguing risque instead of trashy risque. Or maybe I’m just giving it more leeway than I normally would because it’s just so intricate and stunning. Regardless: Gorgeous! A+++ Rihanna! My good will is such that I on this one occasion I will completely ignore your costume in the second pic.

  16. Shanti

I am more concerned about her apparent recent pink eye outbreak than I am about potential indecent exposure.

  17. carolyn

I love the cut outs on the black dress, but there are too many of them so it’s a bit of a mess, and the fluted top is awful. Keep the cut out roses on the skirt and it would be far more elegant.

  18. Cheryl

The shoulders on the band aid outfit look like a bunch of people stubbed their cigarettes out there.

  19. JESR

She looks fabulous, but that dress is an abomination. It looks as if it were made from satin-faced display board, or maybe foamcore, and as if it would break upon bending. Given the stiffness of the dress and the way little sproingy bits of the cutouts stick out from it, I suspect the seams feel like miniature saw-blades.

The second outfit, on the other hand, is obviously an homage to Milla Jovovich in “The Fifth Element.” Scifi all the way.

  20. ...love Maegan

yes …like those cut-out paper snowflakes you make in school. With the bodysuit only rule that the popstars seem to be taking lately, it makes total sense …because if you look beyond the dress, it really only covers up the exact amount a bodysuit would. …saying all that, of course I think she looks ravishing! …but the white shoes? hmmm.

  21. Beth

I’m only commenting because no one else has pointed out that this is what Klingon strippers probably wear to work.

  22. ...love Maegan

…yeah, the second one is def 5th Element inspired.

  23. Beth

The second outfit, that is! I kind of love the first.

And of course, Klingon strippers would rip each others’ clothes off.

  24. Naomi

I call that really fun game “boobsketball.”

  25. cath

That dress, it’s not just legtastic it’s… um… pantytastic. Really. I now know more than a middle-aged woman should about Ri-Ri’s underwear. Also, I think it might be made of neoprene. Good grief! The idea is lovely, but so much about the execution is just so wrong…

  26. Katharina

TMI, Ri-Ri. TMI. And the pink makeup is…unflattering. But more importantly, WHERE’S THE PIC OF BLAKE LIVELY’S LACE HOTPANTS?!

  27. Baby L

    This is discusting :
it looks like the kind of curtain tiers you would see in the bathrooms of your nanas house mixed with a really horrible and a-typical highschoolers prom gown.
    high fashion??
    I THINK NOT

  28. carol

I’m sorry but the first dress looks like a high school art project using origami and scrap-booking cutouts of some sort.

The second outfit, if you can call it that, I have no words…

  29. Kristabelle

NO, to that dress. It looks really uncomfortable. How could she ever sit down?
NO, to that horrible hair color.
NOnononononononnononononoooooo to that mummy-esque, band-aid, scary 2nd outfit.

It won’t be too long before people just start showing up to things naked.

  30. melissa

i don’t even want to think about the pattern of red welts that must have been left behind when she removed the night-of-the-living-dead outfit.

  31. falnfenix

agreed on the Fifth Element likeness…though the scepter-style microphone is actually the first thing i noticed about that photo.

maybe i’ve watched the movie too many times.

  32. qwertygirl

I wouldn’t go so far as ADORE it, but it’s interesting. The cutouts are reminiscent of the nonskid stickers my mother put in the bathtub when I was a kid, but it could be worse. God knows it could be worse.

  33. anny

    @JESR, …LOVEMEAGAN:

    Lelou Dallas Multipass!

  34. Crys

I actually like the dress. What I despise is the freakish orange pompadour on her head and the weird red eyeliner. She already look like she “came from beyond”. Why accentuate her “exotic” looks with alien makeup?

  35. Coleen

It’s like everyone has decided at the same time that John-Paul Gaultier was a visionary GENIUS when he designed Lee-Lu’s costumes for “The Fifth Element.”

Also, I would almost get behind Ri-Ri in the arrivals dress, were it not for the unfortunate case of conjunctivitis she appears to have contracted. Stay away from me, Rated R – that is CATCHING.

  36. Jane

At first glance I really loved the first dress. Then I enlarged it. It needs to be longer because I don’t need to see any cooter, I have one of my own, thanks.

The hair is godawful. The makeup also terrible.

But, I do love white shoes (a lot). Seriously, the more I look the longer I wish it was.

That second….thing is kind of an JFC FML moment. I loved the 5th Element as much as anyone but I’m pretty sure Mila was and is the only person on this planet that could pull it off….you know for a MOVIE.

  37. Chicklet

Well, it’s official: I am an oldster. I can tell because my reaction to both of these photos was HOLY MARY, MOTHER OF GOD! PUT ON SOME MORE CLOTHES! And I’m not even Catholic.

  38. IseultTheIdle

Well, great. Now I want to go to the National Origami Awards.

  39. maggie

i also like the concept of the first dress, but the “style” of the bodice is so impractical it’s distracting, and the fact that the cut outs start so dangerously close to her lady bits are just gross.

  40. Carrie

I loved this dress–or I would have loved it, were it not for the WHITE SHOES.

  41. mina

The dress is pretty but her hair and makeup look to edgy for a dress that sweet. It needs to be longer and the bodice should be different. I guess if it was tea length all the way around with sleeves it would look too 1950ish.

Is she channeling David Bowie or Gozer the Gozerian in that performance outfit? And where did that tattoo down the the front of her chest come from? Does Rihanna sprout tattoos the way us normal folk grow hair?

  42. Lina

I’m getting a winter olympics vibe. The dress says Ice Dancer(!) to me, despite the interesting shape and lovely cut-out work. It’s just *too* revealing.

The stage costume looks like a speed skater outfit that got borrowed for The Fifth Element and returned missing half its fabric and mysteriously riddled with bullet casings. (And WHY do we need to see her shoulders penetrated by dozens of phallic symbols? Honestly! To say nothing of what she’s holding in her hand!) I do suspect that from the waist down it’s backed by sheer hosiery because there’s no healthy shine to her legs like in the dress pic. But mostly? It reeks of DESPERATE, and I’d like to think she’s in a better place than that.

However, I do like that she contrasted a traditionally feminine outfit with something asexual and kind of violent. Her life is such a study in gender issues that I like the underlying idea here. Assuming it was intentional, at least — with a twenty-year-old kid, you never know.

  43. steph

The dress would have been better if I didn’t see the black panel edges on the white undersides. It looks like they’re unfinished seams there. If it was plain white and the seams were hidden, it would have looked much better. It would have been really lovely if there was a larger section without the cutouts or the if cutouts another layer of material. Really? Do we need to see her thighs through her skirt? At least she’s wearing undies.

  44. Katharine

The CONCEPT of the first dress makes all my design-y bits drool. Unfortunately, the execution is lacking – as others have already pointed out – PINKED SEAMS? POSSIBLE NEOPRENE? Considering how many thousands the thing probably cost, I say no. And I can’t say I’m fond of that specific slightly hackneyed Hallmark rose motif for the cutouts, either.

(Also – SEQUINNED PANTIES, Rihanna?? Whoa.)

(I think this dress might illustrate the disconnect between models and “real” people, though. Models go down the runway barelegged to the crotch and with boobs showing all the time – but because we’ve been largely conditioned to consider them depersonalised clothes hangers, we don’t normally THINK about it. Rihanna, on the other hand – is neither depersonalised nor desexualised, on a professional level, and it becomes quite different.)

The second outfit is a performance outfit. Anything goes for stagewear. And there’s definitely some bodysuit action underneath; you can see it at the pelvic crease.

  45. blackstocking

The red carpet dress looks like something my aspiring nine year-old fashion designing daughter would whip up for one of her Barbies. Since Rihanna isn’t much taller than my daughter, I’ll give Ri pass on the first horror.

But the 2nd??? Like so many others, the how and why of the white stripes with crushed out cigarettes across the top leaves my almost speechless. My mind imagines the waxing wearin said getup must require and recoils in pain. Oh Ri-Ri whyyyy? Now I go off to make sure 9 never sees either image, lest I see either when she’s 16.

  46. Fox

Well, I think I see the outline of a leotard in the dress at the bottom. It’s a nice dress

I don’t know how she could wear the second without some sort of nude bottoms, her vagina is not as small as that strap thingy covering it, I know mine isn’t. And I think there is something there. I want something to be there.

Personally, I don’t know how any performer can wear such odd stuff on stage without feeling cold, or sweaty in odd places and not get distracted. I would totally feel so awkward and then I’d get cold.

Then again, if it was my job and if it was edgy to wear a sack of actual garbage and if I were being paid as much as she is then I guess I would do it.

    soooooo edgy.
That right there is my new outfit for going to the grocery store

  47. Emi!y

I know Lelu Dallas, and you, miss, are no Lelu Dallas.

  48. Matt

I find myself unable to resist the first dress. Somehow I the cutouts make a ver interesting effect as if you may not at first understand that it’s her skin showing through, and i love the shoes with it. My only real problem with the red carpet outfit is her hair. I know she’s edgy, I get it, but I can’t get on board with this. What’s so bad about having normal length and cut hair?

Now the stage outfit…do i understand correctly that we may be mere nanometers from a full frontal situation? Or is there some kind of invisible fabric covering everything…DEAR GOD let there be invisible fabric…

  49. k

Rihanna can usually get away with crazy stuff. She wears couture well. That being said, this dress is wearing her, and oh yea gods the orange floppy hair is sooo nasty. At least all her lady bits are allowed to breathe which is more than I can say for her latter outfit which looks like a body stocking covered with ace bandages.

  50. Evalyn

Well, look at that. Somebody got a decorative paper punch as an early Christmas present. Now if someone can teach them to finish seams.

  51. Kymm

I can’t comment on the dress, I’m too distracted by her demon red eyes. P.S. – I REALLY wish she would change her hair.

  52. diana

mwah…I bet the roses in the dress fabric are lasered out. Mwah. The band-aid thing is actually kind of funny. Some ironic take on sci-fi/perfor,amce ware. I hope.

  53. Amy

hello..it was an M&M..of course you eat it!

both outfits freak me out, the cut out one reminds me of a lampshade.
the bandaid one makes me want to scream “Leeloo Dallas Multipass” in an airport

  54. mirror

Happy? You think she looks happy? Maybe it’s just the pink eyeliner, but I think she looks like a woman putting on a brave face after a bout of hysterical sobbing. I hope I’m wrong, I hope it’s just the makeup, but…yeah.

I think both outfits are eyeroll-worthy. If I had her bod I suppose I would wear whatever I wanted, but I doubt either of those would be what I wanted. And white shoes? Always FAIL.

  55. La Seditiosa

I love the first dress. Sure, if it was mine I’d want the non-perforated part to come down further, but she’s rocking it so go Rihanna.

The second one… Well, I do like The Fifth Element… Not sure I like this. I have to say I think Milla did it better, and I’m less than comfortable about the amount of Rihanna crutch on display here.

  56. Ally

All I know is that she better be highly ranked for Fugmaddess come March :) . But seriously, that second outfit is so insane it makes what Lady Gaga wore look tame (and that included dinosaur bones!).

  57. furia

    Méh. P

  58. yeahandalso

She’s pretty, end of story. She’s not talented and not interesting and dressing so aggressively is only charming when you’re actually talented at singing and song writing (ie when you’re Lada Gaga)

and also, can we talk about her make-up in the first pic?!?!? WTF is that?

  59. Biscuit Wheels

Grace Jones better keep a lock on her closet, it looks like Rhi has been dipping in it for concert wear.

  60. EAG46

The first outfit is pretty, if it were a set of curtains or a lampshade. I’m not sure how it works as an outfit. Maybe Rhianna can pull it off because she’s an edgy pop singer, but no one else can. And I’m not even sure she can, really. Outfit #2 also reminds me of The Fifth Element…she looks better in it than Milla Jovovitch did, but that’s all the positive I can say about it.

  61. Bohemond

I’m pretty sure I saw that stripped outfit on a supervillainess from an ’80s comic book,

  62. mlm

I kind of like the first dress, except for the top that looks like a sundae dessert bowl and people may want to drop scoops of ice cream in there and it could get messy–and uncomfortable.

The second–where is that girl’s mother (or any wise and caring older female figure)? Someone needs to tell this young lady that airing out your vagina in public is NEVER acceptable.

  63. Angie

My eyes went directly to the elongated sanitary napkin at the crotch and locked there. Didn’t even see the cigarette butts on her shoulders.

  64. poltergasm

    second one=gareth pugh?
    first one=gorgeous.
&, i hate to say this, but no matter how much airing of the Entirely Too Personal, all of it’s better than gaga.
you may say, if you think about it, i have it out for gaga, but i dont. i have it out for poorly-constructed items, clearly conceived, carved & created out of bad plastics in about four seconds from someone else’s better idea, twenty years ago, MINIMUM.
kinda like gareth pugh [or, even better, alexander mcqueen] via leigh bowery–but, then again, gaga channels him too–only pugh & mcqueen KNOW WHO HE IS. over & out.

  65. strah

I was going to say that although I like the idea of the first one agree that the solid part would look nice if it were longer, make the top part a little closer to the body and it would be great. Then I saw the second one and… WOW. It’s the kind of fug that fills me with glee. Now I don’t know what to think about either one.

  66. maggie

The dress has the potential to look spectacular–not on everyone, mind you. Unfortunately, it isn’t working here–it’s lost in a chaotic swirl of weird details: hair, makeup, shoes. Elegant dark hair, red lips, smoky eyes, fabulous black shoes…that might work!

  67. Christina

The first dress is actually quite nice but there’s something too much (I think it’s her hair) and OMG GET RID OF THOSE WHITE MONSTERS ON YOUR FEET!!!! No-one (ecxept bad pornstars and ice skaters) should ever wear white shoes, it makes feet look two sizes bigger and ridiculous.

The second one is like Leeloo Dallas in winter. When winter comes, we put more clothes on and that’s definitely more than Leeloo wore in 5th Element. :D

(btw, how many times can people write that name so totally wrong in one comment area… gosh! )

  68. Anonymous

Good lord that girl is fearless. Or crazy. Or both.
The first one is pretty and cool, but I wish there were some more coverage underneath- like a lace slip, or just make whatever opaqueness is protecting her crotch a teensy bit longer.
I do love her make-up and her smile.

The performance outfit…JESUS. Couldn’t the strips of cloth that cover her lady parts just be a little wider? Like just enough to cover the underboob and pelvic areas. Don’t worry RiRi, it’ll still look CRAZY. Just not dangerous, almost-NSFW crazy.

  69. DLC

The first one, lampshade all the way. The second one only if those were Christmas lights on the shoulders.

  70. stefawni

I crossed my legs when I saw this photo. And then I wondered what the back might look like. I imagine a lot of skin seepage…

  71. Megan

But the shoulder pads shot laser beams! Laser beam shoulder pads have to be worth something, right? Do they balance out the underboob shots? No, but they are pretty awesome.

  72. srd

very patty labelle back when she did the hair-fan thing.

  73. Cee Jay

Clearly I’m in the minority because I think that first dress is absolutely beyond fab. I have a soft spot in my heart for the second outfit because it reminds me of Leelu or whatever her name is in “The Fifth Element” and I looove that movie.

  74. lex

at least she was smiling. she’s been starting to look like mk olson lately

  75. Otter

Somebody just won a bet that she couldn’t make a performance outfit out of nothing but athletic tape and cigarette butts.

  76. Blue Satin Sashes

Rihanna is (not so) slowly morphing into the black Lady Gaga, except without the awesomness.

  77. Foo

All of this is said in James Earl Jones voice speaking as Darth Vader

    Option 1
Closed toe white shoes. (long automated breathing pause/extended sigh) Turn to the dark side.

I hope you’re wearing nip pasties or a bodysuit.

Your dress and smile are still both lovely. (deep breathing)

    Option 2
I have similar lawn chairs on the Death Star.

You are the Storm Trooper who tortures me in my dreams. I like it. (trusty pink light saber fires up…)

  78. Deb

Girlfriend is rocking the black dress. I am concerned with the pinking showing on the seams and wearing white shoes, why?
The orange hair, time for a change, again.
As for the mummified stage outfit, jeez. Looks like girlfriend hooked up with her Avon representative and got a bunch of lipstick samples. She decided to show the rep some love and put them on her shoulder for touch ups.

  80. Anonymous

SHE IS MAD! WHY WOULD SOME ONE PUT ON SUCH THING??

  81. Kim

Honestly, I didn’t until now notice the first dress was cut so highly because I just thought she looked so darn lovely and happy. That being said, it’s maybe too high. But I love the design and colors overall and I thought she looked really pretty. The second outfit–it’s a performance. I think this sort of thing is de rigueur anymore. Not that I LIKE that, mind you, but it’s pretty much what I’ve come to expect.

  82. m

    i’m more worried about the phallus/mike stand she’s holding…

(if you zoom in and look at her leg you can see something that looks like a seam in the flesh colored parts so i’m guessing there’s some sort of netting or leotard that covers at least part of her skin)

  83. quichepup

I like the 1st dress, the concept and cutouts are dramatic and striking. I can see flicking peanuts into her cleavage though.

As for the 2nd dress, please tell me her shoulders light up.

  84. Krys

LOVED that Marchesa on the runway. Not so much on the red carpet.

  85. LolaP

I thought the first dress looked rather nice, and I actually DO love the white shoes, but upon closer inspection, I realize she has a black sequined leotard on, which is like totally visible on the top and the bottom. The cut-outs on the dress start way too deep into the bodice, and they should have been limited to like mini-skirt length. Even if the cutouts were flush to the outline of the leotard, it would look much better. Seeing the leotard, it looks less like a dress and more like some sort of elaborate wrap over a leotard.

And I like the hair, and makeup, but independently. I can see how the pink would look hot, especially with the black and white. The hair is kinda schmeh, but I don’t loathe it.

I agree that the second one is a performance costume, and it’s got nude nylon underneath on the bottom half. You can see wrinkles around her middle in the close up. It’s not really any more risque than Britney’s nude suit in the VMA’s (I think that was it?). As for fug? Yes, it rather is.

  86. hwilkes501

    Photo One:
    1) I agree
    2) My mother tortured me once with paper chains, this dress does not make me think of “that episode” of my life, however you just did.
    3) She is
    4) If you were hanging out with someone wearing this dress, her name would be Rhianna & you would LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT.
    Photo Two:
If you ever do find yourself to be friends with Rhianna, you now know that a gift card for a wax will never go unused.

  87. Dusty

I think this dress is fascinating and qualifies Rhianna for March Madness. I can’t say I love it, I can’t say I hate it. Fascination at how she kept her goods hidden and where the hell she could comfortably put her hands.

  88. Dusty

    March Madness qualifiers.

  89. milkyaqua

I like the Marchesa dress but the white shoes, no. It’s not even the whole no white shoes after Labor Day or before Easter/Spring that’s disturbing I just don’t like white shoes on anyone unless she’s a bride or a nurse. As for the second outfit, you can tell it has illusion netting to keep her modesty in check. We’ve seen her in worse. That said, if she’d worn the white jumpsuit on the red carpet, I’d have voted loathe it.

  90. Miss Mouse

Ok, it’s the holiday season, and maybe I’m just prepared to be generous. Or maybe I’ve just been eating the little turkey-shaped foil wrapped pieces of chocolate my sister has laying around the house and they’ve gone straight to my head. But in the first picture, when you stack that dress up against some of RiRi’s other outfits, I have to say, she looks pretty good. Cover some of the cutouts by the crotch, please…but apart from that the shape is great, and it’s interesting, and she looks so happy and nice. I do NOT like her recent blonde phase, but then again, it’s better than the blonde streaky phase she just got out of. And I am aware that just because an outfit is better than, I don’t know, wrapping up in duct tape for a night out, that doesn’t make it OK. But I do like it.

The second outfit is clearly an homage to the triumph of her waxer’s art. COVER IT, CHICKIE.

  91. Lulu

Wow. Crazy stage gear seems to be de rigueur these days (said in my fuddy-duddiest grandma voice.) But I couldn’t agree more that it’s nice to see her genuinely smiling. My guess is she’s inspired by the utterly free feeling of wind on her everything. Whee!

  92. Natalie

All I want to say is it is great to see that smile again. And if it takes wearing paper snowflakes (that she totally makes WORK BABY!), then I can’t wait for a paper winter!

So good to see her smiling again.

  93. lady_wraith

why does she always have to be naked (barely covering her lady parts)? god!

the cutout dress is somewhat cute

  94. Laura

I do actually like the idea, I just think it needs a little tweeking to be purrfect. The non-snipped out portion should be longer like you said – maybe halfway to her thighs or so. Also I think it should fit better, maybe it should be “thinner”, like the fabric I mean.

    Otherwise it’s gorge!

  95. L

I wish I could see someone else in the cutout dress. I think Anne Hathaway could seriously rock that dress.

  96. Anonymous

Why was there no photo of Blake Lively’s hot pants? FAIL.

  97. Oh my fug

I can’t decide if those pieces on the shoulders are for filling up the tires on your bicycle or cigarette butts.

  98. Cait

I do NOT agree with the creepy magenta eyeliner.

  99. MN

I can’t hate the first dress, though I know that I would if I saw it hanging up somewhere not being worn. It does look like an art class project. However, I have to give RhiRhi credit for wearing it well. It’s definitely a statement piece. What it’s trying to say, I don’t know, but it’s saying something.

That second outfit is indeed too Lady Gaga meets The Mummy meets post apocalyptic chic for me. These elements are never good standing alone, and are even worse when put together.

  100. aaron

    first dress is hideous.
i actually prefer the second look. yes, it’s wack as all hell, but only rihanna can pull it off. and she does.

  101. cellophane

The first dress is nice…in theory. I think part of the problem is that her hair consistently resembles a wet mop. Also, it would have worked much better with something underneath, like a long black tulle skirt or something like that. My final issue: HOLY HELL IS THAT PINK EYESHADOW?! Just…NO, honey. Never.

  102. Alexandra

I think this dress is conceptually awesome… but the execution… its all so distracting i cant even form a legitimate opinion on it…

  103. tracey

All I have to say is her waxer is amazing.

  104. atizz

I wonder if the wardrobe crew from The Fifth Element was aware that RiRi stole this before she wore it on tv. Look for her at a kiosk near you trying to buy a muuuuuuultiiiiiiiiipaaaaaaaaaassssssss.

  105. Erin

Regarding the second outfit, my first thought was “well, if I had a smoking hot body like Rhianna, I’d wear that too.” Then I thought “yeah, no, I still wouldn’t wear that.” Someone should tell the lovely and fit Rhianna that just because you *can* wear something, doesn’t mean you *should.* I mean, it’s great to show off your awesome beauty, but not in such a way that you look like an extra from “The Road Warrior.”

  106. Morten

    Orange hair? WTF..?

Anyway the dress is great – no it isn’t practical but it looks like Andreas Kocks on a person (yes, that is his name, google it). Ok, Kocks would have done it better but never mind.

Also, the 5th Element version of the thing she is wearing here was supposed to be some kind of futuristic hospital gown. One that was good for being a ninja in. Maybe Ri-Ri’s next gig will be in a hospital gown…

  107. kate13

I secretly (not anymore!) love the first one even though I know I shouldn’t. Like The Wedding Singer and the Violent Femmes. Although, the FIRST THING I thought was, how do you make those paper footballs? I forget.

The second one is much more Rihanna’s usual “style.” Is all I’m going to say.

  108. Susie

I like the first dress, but something about the way she is standing makes her seem bowlegged and that ruins the overall look, which needs to be extremely elegant – almost prim – to work without seeming hoochie.

As for the second….yeah, all I can think is, that’s one hell of a wax. Yikes.

  109. keely

I’m too stunned by the mic. Surely, I’m not the only one that sees a resemblance here.

  110. Anonymous

you def. watched curb your enthusiasm. i think the dress is fun. having said that, it’s hideous.

  111. Katie

you def. watched curb your enthusiasm. i think the dress is fun. having said that, it’s hideous.

  112. Becekrs

Looks like its made of paper. Like the snowflakes you make at brownies. She looks like shes preying for hair extensions boob tube and some daisy dukes.

  113. Jenno

Her smile IS beautiful… unfortunately it is compromised by her red eye make-up, which makes it look as though she was crying on the limo ride over.

  114. Carol

The first outfit just needs to cover a smidge more, and I would call it fabulous.

That said, the second outfit is much too Leeloo Dallas Multipass for me. Fuuuuug

  115. delux

1st outfit = paper doll cut-out with bad 80′s shoes
2nd outfit = 5th element costume designer on acid

  116. Maria

Am I really the first person to say it? Y’all commenters are such squares. You’re not going to see vagina; she’s clearly wearing undergarments in both (a strapless leotard in the first and a body suit in the second). And besides – if you’re going to be a pop star, you damned well should take the opportunity to wear absolutely ludicrous outfits like that stage costume. Honestly. Squares.

  117. Daniela Fuentes

  118. jessica

Oh, come on people. At least she isn’t wearing something that makes her look like she’s an extra in Star Wars

  122. Sonya

The performance outfit isn’t THAT bad. People wear that kind of stuff all the time. Remember when all lady gaga wore was bubbles?
Maybe it’s just because I love Rihanna, but I dont think it’s totally innapropriate.
PS the first dress would be so much cooler if the cutouts weren’t roses. Can you get dowdier?

  123. Megan

I read you guys pretty much every day, but that note about the M&M in your bra totally made laugh out loud, in an otherwise empty room. Thanks!

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  161. Elayne Looby

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

I don’t have air conditioning throughout the whole house, I only have a small one in the living room. Now that we’re hitting summer in Melbourne, Australia, we’re experiencing very muggy hot nights. Opening a window dosen’t really work as its quite warm outside and theres no southerly wind blowing, also in my neighbourhood, I don’t feel safe sleeping with a window open.

Little April was not the best student in Sunday school. Usually she slept through the class. One day the teacher called on her while she was napping, “Tell me, April, who created the universe?” When April didn’t stir, little Johnny, a boy seated in the chair behind her, took a pin and jabbed her in the rear. “GOD ALMIGHTY!” shouted April and the teacher said, “Very good” and April fell back asleep. A while later the teacher asked April, “Who is our Lord and Saviour,” But, April didn’t even stir from her slumber. Once again, Johnny came to the rescue and stuck her again. ‘JESUS CHRIST!” shouted April and the teacher said, “very good,” and April fell back to sleep. Then the teacher asked April a third question. “What did Eve say to Adam after she had her twenty-third child?” And again, Johnny jabbed her with the pin. This time April jumped up and shouted, “IF YOU STICK THAT F*****G THING IN ME ONE MORE TIME, I’LL BREAK IT IN HALF AND STICK IT UP YOUR ARSE!” The Teacher fainted.

I genuinely adore this concept, and happen to be pondering about this sort of point for any although now (ways to greater leverage particular connections for on the internet dating). The web-based dating area is broken. It really is like impersonal buying, and it really is a room which is grossly overdue to get a tune up that integrates social connections in the neat and effective way. Leveraging Facebook to enable persons to play matchmaker, makes a ton of sense. If you have time. Please enter my blog funny clips

A few days after Christmas, a mother was working in the kitchen listening to her young son playing with his new electric train in the living room. She heard the train stop and her son said, “All of you sons of b*tches who want off, get the hell off now, cause this is the last stop! And all of you sons of b*tches who are getting on, get your asses in the train, cause we’re going down the tracks.” The mother went nuts and told her son, “We don’t use that kind of language in this house. Now I want you to go to your room and you are to stay there for TWO HOURS. When you come out, you may play with your train, but I want you to use nice language.” Two hours later, the son comes out of the bedroom and resumes playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and the mother heard her son say, “All passengers who are disembarking from the train, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you for riding with us today and hope your trip was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon.” She hears the little boy continue, “For those of you just boarding, we ask you to stow all of your hand luggage under your seat. Remember, there is no smoking on the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today.” As the mother began to smile, the child added, “For those of you who are pissed off about the TWO HOUR delay, please see the b*tch in the kitchen.”

You ought to seriously think about working on growing this blog into a serious voice in this market. You obviously have a good knowledge of the areas all of us are searching for on this website anyways and you could potentially even earn a dollar or three from some advertising. I would explore following recent news and raising the volume of blog posts you make and I bet you’d start earning some great traffic in the near future. Just an idea, good luck in whatever you do!
