I like to think that Chastain heaved a sigh of relief that all of us who complain about her fashion choices were totally distracted by the Emmys when she left the house in this:
INCORRECTLY, however, as I actually think this is a huge improvement over her usual. I wish to the sweet lord of sandwiches above that she had done something different with her hair — actually, I wish she had just left her hair alone and let it flow naturally over her shoulders (I am aware that the celebrity version of “flowing naturally” and “left alone” takes a couple of hours, but you feel me) — but this is good, right? Better, at least? Somewhat better? Progress? Slight progress? Not, at least, regression? Right? RIGHT?

Equally mysterious is why the cameraman seems to be 20 feet tall. Is s/he standing on a ladder for some reason? What a weird angle.
I think it’s lovely. It does wash her out a bit, but that might be the effect of high-power flash, I bet it’s contrastier in person. And shiny!
Yes, it does wash her out quite a bit. As a fellow pasty, pale redhead, I wish I could advise her that color is our friend. Deep jewel tones work best.
Also, Mary Kay makes a great soft auburn brow pencil for only $10. Look into it, Chastain.
This is an improvement but I have three small complaints: the hair is wacky, the eyebrows are nonexistent, and the dress looks a tad snug (and thus uncomfortable) in the waist.
I just don’t know why she insists on wearing things that wash her out. This is a pretty dress, but it doesn’t do her skin tone any justice.
Definitely an improvement. Though I am a little tired of the neutrals, for her I think this works, and it’s a pretty dress. I’m sure her makeup is fine; this shot appears a little overexposed, to me. I do agree the hair would be better looser, but it’s a minor quibble.
I think that is very pretty. And I like her hair.
No, I am not for this any more than any of her other recent stuff. Just as pallid, just as ghostly, with the added bonus of a design on the dress that’s several times bolder than her facial features (especially with her lack of eyebrows).
Honestly, is she trying to brand herself as some kind of post-modern romantic consumptive?
She could play David Bowie during the Ziggy years.
I think if the eyes and eyebrows were a bit more prominent the dress wouldn’t wash her out. The dress, belt, lips, toe polish and shoes all look lovely.
She looks pretty but washed out ….better makeup maybe?
Why do never feature Mrs Obama….she certainly wears a lot of interesting outfits?
I’m guessing because the posts would degenerate into a political slanging match in 5.2 seconds.
I doubt there are many republicans commenting on fashion!
See what I mean?
Very pretty, sure. But I can’t help but wonder how much better it would be in, say, mint green.
thinking the same thing; mint green . She is so lovely and should just let her face do the work.
Pretty, yes…. but it does wash her out. Still an improvement! And I don’t mind her hair.
Has no one ever told her about jewelry? Colored stones of some sort could go a long way towards saving this. If she really feels she must wear bland shades of clothing, she really should add the pop of color with accessories.
She needs better eye makeup! THAT IS ALL.
I agree she looks like she’s not wearing any eye makeup. I like the dress but the color washes her out a bit. The sparkle helps a bit, but again, maybe with different makeup it would be alot better. I would like less fussy hair also, but overall, it’s definetly better.
This dress is gorgeous, but I feel like she very often wears too-tight belts that pinch in her waist and look incredibly uncomfortable (especially when it comes to sitting down). And why? She certainly doesn’t need to try to look any tinier than she is. She has a beautiful, natural figure—it can’t be that hard to flatter it!
I think this dress is beautiful, and have no problem with the belt … but as noted, this is not a good color on her. Not loving the hair either. And that IS a very weird (and unflattering) camera angle.
This whole look ages her IMO. The hair is too perfect and the no-eyebrow look is bugging me.
Dress washes her out, belt looks too tight and hard, hair is too plain, makeup not in evidence – overall fug.
no.
I LOVE this dress & that belt is awesome, but I don’t love it on her. As everyone else has already said, it really washes her out. On someone else though? Fab, hands down.
seriously, maybe on a darker complected person, like Eve Mendes or Thandie Newton…and while we’re at it, ditch the nude pumps for a pretty pair of sandals.
She’s wasting her glorious Red hair distinction .. but why..? Someone tell her frankly ..to make your beauty work, you may have to go outside of your comfort zone of I don’t exist.. much.. even my brows don’t offend. Live a little you can be conservative, just add a bit of pretty color with the print…enjoy!
Please get an eyebrow pencil!!
LOVE the dress & the shoes! COVET!!! I want them so much, it’s ridiculous! She looks great in them! Sparkly & shiny suits her! But, I agree that the hairdo is too much and the lack of jewelry is driving me mad!
