It feel right that the BAFTA folks had their pre-Emmy tea at the London Hotel, doesn’t it? Let’s look at everyone’s outfits.
Fugger: Edie Falco
Emmy Awards Been There, Fugged That Carpet: Edie Falco
I’ve gone on record before as liking this dress.
The problem is, though, that I’ve already seen this dress. And this is the EMMYs, not some random cocktail party or premiere, and that is multiple statuette-snagger Edie Falco — who is one of those people who could show up on an HBO stage and sneeze for ten minutes and get nominated. It doesn’t matter how good her dress is; somebody should be giving her a fresh outfit, not a dress that Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the Grammys back in February and then Brooklyn Decker trotted out at a Battleship event. BATTLESHIP, y’all. Edie Falco is better than sloppy Battleship seconds, no matter how tasty they seem.
Also, her face is better than whatever that hair is doing to it. The end.

Tony Awards Well Played: Edie Falco
And so it is: The Earth rotates, Diet Coke tastes delicious, Intern George blows off work, and Edie Falco looks pretty at an awards show.
In fact, the only shocker was that she didn’t win — isn’t it written into law in this nation that she takes home every statuette for which she’s nominated? Is Congress going to have to shut down for three days while everyone takes smelling salts and tries to figure out how to blame The Other Guys for this?

Globes Prognostication vs Reality: Best Actress in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical
Here’s yet another category in which we can’t get a complete team on the field – Laura Linney was sadly absent due to a death in her family, and Toni Collette is too pregnant to fly — but that doesn’t mean we can’t still vote!

Golden Globes Feh Carpet: Edie Falco
It’s not even necessarily that I hate this.
It’s just so Prom Catalog 2007. Plus I keep thinking her dress strap is hanging out, until I realize there’s a tiny ruffle down the side of the bodice. Edie Falco is an awesome lady and a great actress, but the choice almost makes me wonder if she is bored of being a universally lauded awesome lady and great actress. The dress just sort of sits there. It is present and accounted for; it is on her body. You could say of this outfit, “Edie Falco arrived at the Globes covered in red fabric,” and that’s basically it. Even she is kind of like, “Yeah, yeah, I like Nurse Jackie, too, but let’s have someone new win this sucker and get out of here in time for a burger and a good night’s sleep.” I applaud the sentiment, but I just wish she’d delivered it with a tad more panache.
