Well! This was unexpected, although perhaps it shouldn’t have been. Tonight was the British Fashion Awards — never fear, we’ll have full coverage of everyone else on Tuesday — and Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy took home the Designer of the Year award. I don’t always love Givenchy (although I thought the most recent haute couture show was stunning) but I cannot argue with the fact that she’s had A REAL GOOD YEAR. And it feels very apt that Meghan came to present the award, as their partnership is surely what pushed CWK over the edge. (Sarah Burton took this same award in 2011, the same year she designed Kate’s wedding gown, so there is some precedent here; unsurprisingly, the British Fashion Awards people love a royal wedding gown designer.)

While I’ve historically Had Notes about some of Meghan’s Givenchys: This is VERY VERY VERY good, from the gown to the great accessories (they’re Pippa Small, a jewelry designer she often wears and which I unfortunately keep wanting to buy for myself) to the dark manicure to the gold strappy shoes (they’re these Tamara Mellons). As a person who consistently screeches at celebrities to try metallic shoes and/or to wear a bracelet: I FEEL SO SEEN. Thank you, Meghan.

I apologize for how many of these snaps are embeds — our usual photo services weren’t inside the venue, so I had to Make Arrangements — but behold these bracelets:

They are SO VERY GOOD. (She was very Hands On with the bump tonight, which makes me think that this kid is really energetic in there, which….well, this is not a surprise, given his or her father.) This whole look is VERY elegant and chic; it truly might be one of my favorite things she’s ever worn so far?

Clare seems to agree:

These two women have certainly had a very exciting year, and much of it hand in hand with each other. This must have been a moving moment for them to get to look back at it together — and forward into their futures, as well.
