Fabs and Fines: Nina Dobrev

well-played

We have missed Nina at Fashion Week, but she certainly hasn’t been sitting at home eating Oreos and making Ian Somerhalder dance for her. Well. Not all the time, anyway.

There’s nothing especially wrong with the lace sleeves on the red number. I think i’m just tired of lace. She looks lovely in pretty much everything. It’s a lot of boob in the first shot but she balances it with a skirt of reasonable lenth.

Love all of them. She looks fantastic. AND her shoes are great!

I don’t like either of the red dresses. The first one is wearing her and the second (skater costume meets lingerie-from-the-sensuality section) should never be worn at all.

The rest are great and her shoes are really good too.

NAILED IT. I want to be this girl.

I’m surprised you’re letting her get away with those see-through lace panels on the ivory dress.

Speaking of see-through panels, can we talk about the hideous fuggery of Tyra’s dress on Episode 2 of ANTM? They actually couldn’t zoom in on her body.

the worst part about the last dress for me is the apparent lace inserts around the hem. the whole thing feels very 90s to me, and yes, i know, the 90s are back. but i don’t have to like it.

I can’t ever harsh on this girl because she is a delight. And all of these are basically fine. My favorite was probably the shorts outfit because love the print on that one, even though not fond of matchy matchy formal shorts and top. The neckline on the ball gown is great on her. The bodice on red dress #1 reminds me a little of what I didn’t like about Naomi Watts’ mauve/lilac/whatever-can’t-remember-the-exact-shade number from the other day. Odd neckline is odd. I have no problem with the amount of boobage, though, and girl has truly great ones.

    Her skin is freaking gorgeous.

She always looks just perfect, no matter what. Even the peplum doesn’t make her look bad in that first dress! I also covet all of her shoes.

Vampire Diaries isn’t back until October…the wait is killing me!!

    She is just so gorgeous.

Carson is Southern, if I remember correctly, and the red shoes things is an old Southern maxim. Like white after Labor Day or putting dark meat in your chicken salad.

According to Wikipedia/IMDB, Carson was born in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania (Claussville or Allentown, depending on what you read), and graduated from Gettysburg College. He now lives in Manhattan, so…not much Southern there.

Oh yeah, Carson Kressley was born in/around Allentown, Pa. I saw him inducted into the Lehigh County Hall of Fame earlier this year. http://www.lehighcounty.org/community/bicentennial/halloffame/tabid/1234/default.aspx

(Tried to take pictures of Ben Stiller, who was in the audience supporting his wife, Christine Taylor. Grainy and nearly unrecognizable… but I know it’s him!)

I don’t have problems with lace sleeves, per se. I do, however, have all kinds of problems with lace demi-shrugs.

EXACTLY ! Take away the part where it meets at her throat & turn them into normal sleeves and it would be fine. Not great, a wee bit 90210 original style, but fine.

She’s so beautiful and has such an amazing body that I think she can wear anything and be gorgeous. She’s just one of those people.
I don’t watch Vampire Diaries…maybe I will try it. I didn’t get into Twilight and only watch TrueBlood since being married, and I’m not crazy about vampires. But I do need something to do while I wait for all my regular shows to return.

I highly recommend getting into Vampire Diaries. The first six or so episodes are a bit Twilight-y and teen drama-ish, but then that all but vanishes and it just becomes a great show. Power through and get to the good stuff.
You do, however, need someone who has either seen it or who can watch it with you because you will have many “OH MY GOD WHAT JUST HAPPENED, I THINK I’M HAVING A STROKE” feelings which will not be contained.

p.s. I don’t think Nina Dobrev has actually ever worn a pair of non-fabulous shoes. I also covet her hair.

Sigh, thanks for reminding me of how dearly I miss TVD. It’s been a long, bleak summer without Stefan, Damon, Tyler, and the gang. BRING BACK MY EYE CANDY, CW. Okay, I feel better now. Also, Nina (yes, the topic at hand) looks pretty great here. I don’t *adore* the red lace dress, but I’m not mad at it either.

The first red outfit is flatly vulgar, to me. The excessive boobage is all I can see, which is a terrible shame when she’s so pretty.

The second red, I don’t have an issue with the design, I don’t think, that’s kind of cute, but the fabrics leave something to be desired. They look a little cheap.

But the Lhuillier is stunning on her, and yes, I do love the shoes too! I think the shorts outfit is adorable, and the sparkly ivory dress both very pretty, and a nice example of how you CAN, in fact, wear lace panels tastefully.

So, I guess, 3 solid As, one C+/B-, one F (“Needs work. See me”), for me. Not bad! She’s definitely more than passing overall! :-)

I guess “vulgar” is like pornography – I know it when I see it.

But totally agreed regarding Monique Lhuillier dress and shoes and Nina combo – outrageously beautiful. As well as the shorts outfit (cute) and the ivory dress (also very cute) – though she gets away with it because she is tiny and young and (wait for it!) cute.

The color red looks good on her, but the first dress looks like it wasn’t fitted, and the sheer lace has just been overdone.

I’m calling a Celebrity Tanorexia Alert. I think it might actually be from too much time in the sun rather than spray-tan, but she has a radioactive glow.

I can’t believe Carson Kressly said that. I usually ADORE him, but couldn’t disagree more about the red shoes.

Doesn’t anyone wear shoes that fit anymore?

Lace sleeves = 19th Century Consumptive But Colorfully Dressed Prostitute Ice Skater Dress.

Red shoes – they can, admittedly, be a cliche. But I don’t think they need to be offed altogether, just used with care.

All together, I don’t like what she’s got on and don’t know her from Adam. The first one is vulgar with all the boobage, and hopelessly outdated without. The matchy-poo formal shorts n’ tunic, I mean, really? The Lhullier is closest to being nice, just a tad long; it should be tea length instead of ballet length, and her shoes don’t fit.

I can’t believe people are adoring the Lhuillier. It makes her look so short and stumpy! It reminds me of a cupcake doll. I’m fine with everything else but that Lhuillier dress gives me shudders.

I like them but I do think there was a bit too much boob in the first one… just a tad for what appears to be a not-too-formal, perhaps a transition from-day-to-night-wear. The lace sleeves/shrug doesn’t bother me on the other red as the looks has a 1950s feel to it and suits her. I just LOVE the white and black tea length dress. So, so pretty.

All are gorgeous!! I can’t believe people are saying the first is vulgar, it’s just boobs!

I think that is a complete winner!
Depicting a strong and fierce woman ready to face challenges, and boys? because of the reddish dress and exposed part of the breast.. whew.. I think, only women with high self-esteem can handle this dress but this is beautiful~~
    LOL!

I love them all except the last one. As someone else has said, it’s got a 90′s thing happening that isn’t working for me.

I’m a bit disturbed that my favourite is the shorts. Because I usually think shorts are wrong.

I’ve never seen The Vampire Diaries and have no real need to, but I am LOVING Nina in Real Life. This girl nails the fashion 95% of the time. She either has great taste or great help. She looks sickening in the Elie Saab and the Monique Lhuillier.

However, I would say that last dress falls into the 5% not-so-great range. It’s not hideous, it just feels too much like Saucy and/or Estranged Mother of the Bride Stealing Focus.

I really liked Vampire Diaries, but actually had to stop watching because Ian Somerhalder’s ridiculous facial expressions got SO ANNOYING that it was all I could see.

I say this pretty much EVERY TIME there is a Nina Dobrev post, but it’s always applicable:

SHE IS SO PRETTY. It makes it very hard for me to actually judge her clothes, because I can’t look away from her face! With that being said, I still really like all of these, esp. the gown… that thing deserves a medal.

Also – I can’t wait for TVD to be back! I completely agree with Jessica about it’s awesomeness, and in fact I started watching it last year after her repeated encouragement to do so!

It’s SO much better than you think it’s going to be. It’s like True Blood and Twilight had one night of passion and the result was The Vampire Diaries. Perfection.

I don’t mind the red lace sleeves. I’d be just as happy with solid colored sleeves, or no sleeves, but I think the cut-out effect is interesting.

  31. Evie

Well, she dresses much better than she acts, anyway.

Lace sleeves are fine, but I’d like them a lot better with a less matchy clutch. I feel like Nina should have picked lace sleeves or matchy satin clutch, but not both. (Sleeves! pick sleeves! This outfit would have been eighteen shades of fabulous with a neutral clutch a la the one she used with the green dress linked in the slideshow!)
