I thought to myself, “Wait, is Kelly Taylor in a cult AGAIN?” But no, it’s just crazy Katharine McPhee, starting off what would be an epically nightmarish string of hairstyles that totally obscure the fact that she’s got a lovely voice and a beautiful face, because seriously, who can pay attention to EITHER of those things when she’s wearing that fugly head-suit?

Wow, it’s Battle Kristen — like it’s Iron Chef up in here. I wish I had a dude in a cape who could shout, “Allez cuisine,” and yank a cloth off a table to reveal the Kristens sitting on a table smiling uncomfortably and waiting for Morimoto to come over and check to see if their calves are ripe enough or whatever.
Let’s start with La Bell. For a while, I kept thinking she hadn’t had such a bad year. And then I went to her archive, and this little baby knocked me in the face:
For someone who blogs about clothes for a living, I have a HORRIBLE memory for any of it — I can fug the same outfit twice, on different people, and not remember it, which in fact I DID the time M.I.A. wore that polka-dot placemat that Agyness Deyn had already donned — and so naturally I’d completely forgotten this existed. KRISTEN. You have a fantastic figure. There are about seventy-thousand better ways to flaunt it; “show only snippets of side-abs” is not on the list.

On the one hand I hope she does not apply these principles to her dress for her upcoming wedding to Dax Shepard. On the other hand, PLEASE, KRISTEN, apply these principles to your dress for your upcoming wedding to Dax Shepard! Because can you IMAGINE the crackitude of that gown?
There is probably a graceful shotgun-wedding joke to transition me to this next photo, but I can’t find it, because it’s almost Easter and I have to conserve my already-poor finding-stuff skills (like, where the hell are my keys, EVER? I am like Ted “Theodore” Logan’s father up in here) for trying to locate dyed eggs before they go rotten in my house. Anyway, behold:

(4) BLAKE “BOOBS LEGSLY” LIVELY vs. (13) CASSIE
For those of you unfamiliar with why we call Blake Lively by that semi-crass yet wholly apt nickname, allow me to explain: It’s because of her almost pathological inability to refrain from showing both her cleavage and her thighs at the same time. Not that either of those things is not glorious — the kid has an enviable figure — but she is a young girl who absolutely does not have to work so hard for us to admire her. This is bad, but this is just nuts:
Come on, kid. Who wears formal booty shorts with a top that ornate? She reminds me of the theory that newscasters only bother getting dressed from the waist up, because they know that’s all you’ll see of them on camera, and that there is a whole orgy of pantslessness happening beneath that desk. Blake’s wardrobe is an orgy of pantsless shenanigans. She ALWAYS finds a way.
I don’t know why The Lone Sleeve felt the need to hijack this dress, but I’m far more amused by Blake’s inability to resist poking that leg as far through the slit as possible, as if to say, “I know my skirt is long, but here! Do you see? Do you? THEY’RE STILL HERE! DRINK IT IN, AMERICA!”
Her opponent, Cassie, is no stranger to showing a little skin herself. Somehow she flew under our radar on GFY this year until recently, and I’m not sure why; although we knew about the hair — that tragic LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEE hair — we did manage to miss this:
It’s as if her dress got caught in her panties while she was in the ladies’ room.
I don’t know WHAT this is, except that Leighton Meester probably wants one in every color to wear on her I’m A Pop Star tour. I do think the Easter Bunny would love to put his eggs in THAT basket, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. (I mean that the skirt looks woven. What did YOU think I meant? Pervs!) But is this display of fuggery enough to unseat Boobs Legsly?

Kate Moss v. Courtney Love was difficult, only because K Moss really does see herself as fashion savvy. But plain old hot mess won out in the end for me.
That Courtney “Laura Ingalls Wilder drunk on moonshine” picture always slays me. Questions indeed, and not necessarily ones we want to know the answers to. And that whole Taylor Momsen garter debacle, put it away, take it away, keep it away. God, I just envisioned a Courtney-JLo smackdown, I know they’re in different brackets, but I’d pay to see that!
I don’t even know who Cassie is. Is she a singer? Actor? Model? Dancer? Tiger Woods ladyfriend?
Courtney is just a riddle wrapped in an enigma dressed up in pajama pants, isn’t she. It’s truly outstanding!
Momsen v. McPhee was the toughest yet for me. I hate Katharine’s hair SO MUCH IT HURTS but I’m also really, really tired of Taylor’s ‘I’m an angsty grunge teen rocker LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME’ shtick. In the end, I went with Taylor, although I think in a different seeding Katharine could have gone far.
I found these match-ups to be the most difficult so far. I was really sad that I couldn’t vote for Blake Lively, since I detest the way she hangs out of her clothes at both ends all the time, but I just couldn’t get beyond Cassie’s hair. And I would have liked Kate Moss to have a better shot at the title than going up against that master Fugstress Courtney Love in the first round. Oh well, better luck next year, Kate!
In my brackets I have T-Mom and C-Lo facing off in round 3. I picked C-Lo, a friend picked T-Mom; in her words, “It’s Courtney Love versus Little Courtney Love.” SO true.

The thing with Blake Lively is that she is ALWAYS exposing herself, even on her television show (let’s not forget the backless catsuit she wore in the Thanksgiving episode)! No denying she looks gorgeous but it just defies logic that she will put it all out there even in the middle of winter.
McPhee’s hair is horrible, but in that first photo — is she wearing a white bra under a dark see-through dress? Or are those just some little hats she applied because the girls were a wee bit chilly?
I am LOVING that this was the toughest round so far, and LOVING EVEN MORE that Cassie vs. Boobs has been the closest race yet. Fug Forever!
Honestly I don’t understand how Moss is only a 12 seed. I think both she and C-Love deserve to see another round. That said, I had go C-Love.

I think it was quite unfair of you to pair Kate Moss with Courtney-the-Foul. KM never had a chance. Now the Cassie/Boobs match up is very exciting indeed! C’mon Cassie girl- I’m rooting for you. Kristen Stewart would not even be on our Fug radar is she could only learn to smile, stop slouching, wash her dirty greasy hair and take a shower with soap daily instead of once a month. Kate Moss vs Courtney Love
I felt that I had to vote Kate Moss as more fug.
Kate, having worked in the fashion arena SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
Courtney, while whacked out in her own right, is just that, whacked out. You got to love her drunk, high, incoherency that are her outfits.
I vote Boobs Legsly for two reasons.
1. That jacket omg honey don’t dress like your grandma, you’re so young!
and
2. I LOVE typing “Boobs Legsly”. Seriously. It makes me smile every time I type it.
@ Stephanie and Mel: I agree – if I was built like that, I’d be showing as much of it as I could at every opportunity. But the issue at hand, I think, is that she makes some odd choices in the service of showing the goods.
K-Stew and Momsen- I cannot vote for them. As a former goth teen, I have to assume that this is a style choice, and not just bad taste. They could *easily* decide to look like conventional beauties, but are choosing to look the way that they do. McPhee and Bell are just picking fug outfits with no deeper thought.
Little J has seriously high hopes of winning the crown this year. She is a cute girl, and yet manages to look as bad as C-Love, someone who could be her mom (how about THAT for a story line, Gossip Girl?)
As for the others. I, too, wondered what was SO bad about Boobs Legsly. I mean, she is HOT, her outfits (usually) aren’t hideous, except for the fact that she flashes some boobs and legs, so what’s so wrong with that. Then I perused the archives. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME she is out, she is Boobs Legsly. That sealed it for me!
The Kristen’s were tough. Both look seriously awful. BUT, K. Bell seemed to have some cute looks, which in my opinion outweighed K. Stew’s hideous hair/makeup AND most outfits. I think K. Bell just takes a wrong turn once in a while, while K. Stew was fug for the majority of the voting period (cute Oscars dress and more recent post aside).
Oh lord, I have got to stop looking at these at work. Cackling madly while sitting alone in my cubicle is not conducive to career advancement.
Ok, I have to make a point about the the Kate Moss butt cleavage comment. There is no cleavage in that photo, none. Cleavage means a division, a cleft or a split, which is why the word is most commonly used for the place between breasts. We’re not even seeing Kate’s ass, just the top of her thigh below where it joins to her ass. The outfit is too tame to be considered fug, and the jacket’s super cute. And while Kate’s fairly fug in general, Courtney Love NEVER wears anything flattering and most commonly, it’s both not-flattering and gross. Courtney wins!
McPhee is so good looking that it is tough to look objectively at her. I do, however, think she looks much better as a brunette.
I just want to sock Momsen in the eyes, but it seems someone’s beat me to it. Plus I like the McPhee ‘do. I do. Fug to Taylor.
KBell has that one brown snuggy fail, but KStew over and over again shows she is not deserving of her fame, so nix to that slouchy little smug! Fug to the smug.
I believe, for the right price, we ALL can have melons like Boobs Legsly, and the other poor dear looks like she had an accident wiyth the hedge clippers. Fug to the melons.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m a longtime fan and for the past few years she’s been obsessed with the world of high fashion and/or Etsy, which in her cracked out mind is just as relevent. This I think was the essence of the debate we had last year, with the Swinton/Aubrey O’Day finale. (Also in that vein, there was a whole debate about whether winning this championship, was a compliment or an insult). Last year, I was so frustrated with the whole concept, going back and forth on it. This year, I think I’m just going to pick instintually and not worry about it. That way I won’t feel weird choosing Aubrey and Bai to make it to the top, along with people like Lady Gaga and the Sev.
MOMSEN VS. KATHERINE: While I loathe the blond hair on Ms. McPhee, and the fug force was strong with her this year, the Momsen just cannot be stopped.
BATTLE KRISTEN: Kristen Bell has had some misses, but not nearly as many as Bella. And for the record, Morimoto is AWESOME!! He would have taken either Kristen and made her into some kind of lime/wasabe/beef/ice cream combo.
CASSIE VS. BOOBS: First of all, I don’t know why everyone thinks Blake is gorgeous. I think her face is so plain- there is nothing interesting about it. Waaaaay overrated. Cassie, however, is gorgeous, and her hair (YOWZA!) and fashion choices put her over the top on this one.
KATE VS. COURTNEY: Is this Battle Drug Abuser? I feel bad even typing those. And while I think Frances Bean is a cute little thing, her mother is not. Love FTW.
I just go with my gut. I don’t worry about the intent of the fugster; I just vote for whoever’s fashion sense causes me the most pain.
for me, fug madness, especially the madonna bracket, is about too much try. momsen and boobs do uglification/pornification like all young girls do at some point. there’s something honest about it. k stew and love (or their “stylists”, as the case may be) both want to be their genre’s it girl a little too much for me to believe they deserve that honor.

If Fug Madness were a quantity game, she’d win hands down, and frankly she’s still got a good shot — I just don’t know that her brand of fug is inspiring enough to rally the masses at her back.
KRISTEN BELL v. KRISTEN STEWART: Stewart because I want her to come accept the award and cough into her shoulder.
BLAKE LIVELY v. CASSIE: Lively, because she’s absolutely gratuitous. Plus I actually like both of the things Cassie is wearing here.
COURTNEY LOVE v. KATE MOSS: This one was a dead heat for me, so I’m invoking the Fergie rule from yesterday’s rounds: which has more likely peed on themselves most publicly and most often? And by that standard, Love gets my vote.
I had McPhever this year–I don’t think she can or should go far, but i don’t see Taylor’s teen goth thing as fug. It’s not demented, it’s not fashionista, it’s just teen.
Kristen Bell has been steadily improving, I like to believe through the guidance of the Fug Girls. She has a few backslides, like the sackcloth monstrosity, but KStew’s pure fug.

Could someone explain what the author meant in his last paragraph? He makes a fantastic start but lost me halfway in the article. I had difficulty following what the author is attempting to say. First was great but personally i think he needs to work with writing a better finish.
