Fug or Fab: Heidi Klum

fug-or-fab

We’ve seen versions of this dress all over the place lately — often in blue — but I have to say, I kind of think Heidi’s working it:

God knows she loves to show a little leg. But the top of this is so covered up that I think she can get away with it (having, you know, Heidi Klum’s legs ALSO helps in that endeavor). So I’m going to come down firmly on the side of, “this could have gone wrong, but magically it somehow remained right.”

Do you like it?

Total and complete Ice Capades. Down to the skate-like booties and yanked-back hair.

  2. ariel

This totally could have worked but why is Heidi so opposed to make-up sometimes? Looks unfinished with the bare face and shower hair.

  3. Matilda

Dancing on ice is what I thought, too. And she’s doing herself no favours with that make-up and hair style and her weight loss … she could easily pass for a good looking 48 year old.

  4. ste

It could be cute, but I think it’s a little young for her. I mean, Heidi is HOT and I really like everything about her, but this would look better someone in their early 20′s.

  5. Kate

Those shoes are horrifying! And her head looks too big for her body, though that may just be the angle. She does have amazing legs though. Bitch.

  6. Bella

She looks a bit silly and desperate to me. She is not a teenager and while she doesn’t need to wear granny sacks, she really ought to dress more age-appropriately.

  7. Jenny

She is Heidi freakin Klum. Genetically blessed. It is her duty to wear stuff that regular humans can’t–or shouldn’t. I think she looks very pretty. (despite the shoes.)

  8. Emma

She always looks pretty to me so I vote yes. I think the typo (“cold”) in the last sentence was funny … I did worry she might catch cold with no pants in this weather.

  9. Stefanie

I guess this means all of Hollywood is going to be channeling The Black Swan for the next few months? She looks like a half plucked chicken. I hate that netting on top – whats with the bits of fabric? I guess I have stronger feelings about this than I thought. I need to change my vote to NO.

  10. Nina

I love the bodice, but HATEHATEHATE the skirt and the little widows lace awful thing over her chest. YOUR BOOBS AREN’T SHOWING. DON’T WORRY.

Also, while I think the pulled back hair is a good idea, I’m not sure I love *this* pulled back hair. Don’t mind the shoes as much as everyone else though.

  11. anner

Yes…but I do think it’s a little teeny-bopperish for a woman her age. And yeah, the shoes are ick.

  12. Jacquilynne

There is no world in which illusion netting studded with pieces of vinyl records studded in is acceptable.

Well, the Ice Dancing world, maybe. But otherwise…

  13. Cecily

She looks great, but I agree with several who said it’s too young for her. Sorry, Heidi!

  14. Joyce

    U forgot the “u”

  15. Chasmosaur

    1) It’s too young for her. It’s not that she won the genetic jackpot with that face and figure, it’s just about age appropriate dressing.

Look at Sigourney Weaver, Helen Mirren or even Sophia Loren. Each has a slamming body, but they wear clothes that show off the va-va-voom without looking like mutton dressed as lamb.

    2) Is it just me or is it too tight?

  16. Jenn

I think Emma Watson did a better job at pulling off a similar type of dress. I love Heidi’s legs but there is just too much of them and the bodice isn’t doing her body any favors.

  17. Shnaggi

Too tight, Too short, Too desperate …You have arrived and should be looking confident and glama without parading anymore….quit while you are ahead Heidi…..don’t make the mistake of thinking that wearing your Swansong will distract people from the fact you are no longer 18.
A little more dignity and a lot more skirt needed here.

  18. Bella

P.S. I hate her nose. Why, Heidi, why?

  19. Cass

It’s ridiculously unflattering. Anything that looks that unflattering on Heidi Klum is an abomination.

  20. Hambone

It’s the shoes. They ruin the entire outfit!!

  21. Rachel

I like that the woman in the background has almost the same dress, but in gold.

  22. guest72

The dress looks too close to her body, not tight, not too small, but CLOSE . The sleeves are too close to her armpits, the neckline is close, the waist is close, even the hem to close to her thighs. I have a huge urge to pull my own clothing away from my body while looking at this picture and I feel like I can’t breathe. Clearly this dress is suffocating.

  23. mary lou bethune

why does she want so much attention? It all seems desperate… some people are never satisfied- she has all the kids, she keeps renewing her vows to a nice man, she is rich, etc, but ocd….. or something.

  24. Pam

ANyone know what her tattoo says on her right arm??

  25. jenny

The shoes, oh, the shooooooes! They are reminding me of those silly early 90s Guess half-boots…but with peep toes and a wee shoe belt.

  26. testington

she is a 38 year old mother of 4, this is not acceptable

  27. Anne B

    Frau Klum, beware.

The diamonds are coming to get your face.

  28. Kirsten

Is it just me or does she look ill and scarey skinny here. And she’s not the only one either, Debbie Gibson in an earlier picture looks like she’s standing on toothpicks instead of legs.

  29. Kate

Her facial expression might be HER running campaign for mayor of Cracktown (see below post).

  30. anner

i don’t actually think she’s too old to wear something this revealing. i find such conventions demeaning and arbitrary, besides which, good god, this is frau klum’s skin we’re talking about. she is the kind of dame for whom the phrase “if you’ve got it, flaunt it” was invented. but yeah, the overall style of the dress is just kind of juvenile.

  31. RosieB

I love this crazy broad. As far as I’m concerned, she can where whatever she damn well pleases. The dress doesn’t look particularly comfortable, but, hey, if she’s fine with it, that’s cool.

  32. Lizzy

Heidi, it’s time to leave the minis to the young ones. Your face is looking far too interesting these days to dress like that.

  33. Julia

I’d actually be OK with this without the bedazzled fascinator panel, but it ruins the line/takes the dress over the line into fussy/makes her head look way too big, so no, not really.

  34. Gessi

I love Heidi, I think she rocks.

But. I don’t know if it’s the dress or the hair, but her head looks gigantic.

  35. atz

Those are very, very ugly shoes.

She looks great I think but the dress is silly. Of course she’s Heidi Klum so she can get away with a lot.

I think I’d actually love the dress if it didn’t have the illusion netting and shoulder fuzz and instead just ended in a tank-style top, with a round neckline and straps. THAT dress would be very cute.

  36. Janna

Heidi has the best legs in the world, but that dress is fug. And Heidi is looking her age in the face and I like her better with her hair down, softer. It’s a shame she lost her great bust, but she got four great children for losing them.

  37. lui

its too tight, giving her an unflattering belly and making her boobs look squished in there!

  38. M. Pyka

The dress makes it seem as if she had no waist at all. And her shoulders look very narrow compared to her hips. Whatever – the tattoo is supposed to spell out “Seal”. A bit too elaborate IMHO.

  39. Sasha

I dunno about you guys, but all I see is roaches crawling up her chest.

  40. Colleen

You can really see in this picture what a beautiful old woman she’ll be. I agree with Matilda….she looks like a lovely 48 year old. When you’re too old to show so much leg, you gotta do something with the hair and makeup.

  41. margo

Neither flattering nor appropriate. This picture makes me feel sad for her

  42. RobbieT

It’s time for someone to start dressing their age

  43. Fawn

I wish you all would lay off of Heidi with regards to “mutton dressed as lamb”. Yes, she’s roughly the same age as I am. And yes, I am too old to wear this. But I work in a corporate office, and the parties I usually attend involve beer and football. She is a FASHION MODEL married to a ROCK STAR. She has different rules than the rest of us. Plus, she’s only 37, not 67!

That being said, I cannot get behind the illusion netting bit… that’s just fug.

  44. ddukes

she’s starting to look a little desperado to me and i don’t like saying that. maybe she is reacting to criticism from all that make up at golden globes and thus the bland, colorless face? but the dress is too much. way too much. i am feeling a christie brinkley coming on.

  45. Chasmosaur

    @Fawn:

Mutton Dressed As Lamb is not excused by being married to a rock star. Take a peek at, say, Iman, Paulina Porizkova and Christie Brinkley to see how a supermodel rock wife can age gracefully (especially Iman, married to a rock legend). Not that they always look perfect, but they don’t make me wonder whether or not they tipped their waxer well enough.

Heidi can be body-conscious, gorgeous, effortless and sexy:

It just seems she prefers to show us her inner thighs to remind us that she still has awesome inner thighs. That’s what makes her mutton (even though I agree: at 37, she’s not *really* mutton). She has all sorts of choices that are well beyond the means of us mortal humans, and yet she continues to wear things that make her look kinda tacky. Gorgeous and tacky, but tacky nonetheless.

Personally, I’d love to see her in Armani PrivĂ©. Edgy and sleek suits her well.

  46. Mellie

Whoa. Girlfriend is in need of rouge. And hose shoes are simply ghastly. Yeesh.

  47. Mellie

    Also, those shoes.

  48. Ranee

Is it just me or does it look like her head is morphing off of her body?

  49. Marybelle

Ooooff… those shoes are hideous. Ew. And this dress reminds me of where the Project Runway make a dress from the party store challenge SHOULD have gone. In fact I think the skirt Gretchen Jones made in that challenge is pretty much the same as the skirt on this dress.

  50. Ines

    fug.

but the golden one in the background looks fabulous (at least the part i can see)

  51. Evalyn

No. This dress is way too twee for a woman her age – it’s something she’s doing to have to face up to sooner or later. I say, start with this dress.

  52. Leah

Something is just wrong here. It’s not the dress, or her age… I think maybe the picture is just too close up. Her head is like popping out of the screen at me, and I feel like I can see goosebumps on her legs. In fact, she just looks kind of cold. Also did she get (another?) nose job? She’s looking a little MJ.

  53. Kary

Love Heidi. Like the dress. Hate the shoes. Think she needs more dramatic makeup.

  54. Natasha

The dress is aweful and the shoes are ghastly, but more importantly -WHAT HAPPENED TO HER FACE?!

  55. anonymoose

the legs WORK! the rest DOESN’T.
    she’s only 38?

  56. Valeria

    Fashion Victim shoes. ’nuff said.

  57. Maryscott O'Connor

    She looks skeletal.

  58. Graziela Medina

    Black Swan!
