This is where I confess that I do not, I have never, and I do not plan to watch Doctor Who and everyone flips her wig:
I am SURE it is good and I BELIEVE that you love it, but it’s just not my ball of wax. I also find it distracting that the current Doctor, Matt Smith, has no eyebrows. I worry I would spend each and every episode staring at the geography of his forehead. But I know you love him and I want the best for you guys. And all of that is why I am pleased to say that I think this is actually really cute on Doctor Who ingenue Karen Gillan. Seriously, is there a more appropriate top for ComicCon?

Fug-Ugh. And the shoes! Even worse.
The shoes kill it for me. I can’t get on the loafer train. But she’s adorable.
So do you watch the BBC Sherlock? Benedict Cumerbatch’s eyebrow situation is also quite strange. I like Karen’s sweater and think it’s appropriate for Comic-Con, but I wish she hadn’t paired it with short shorts and fug shoes.
Yes, and yes. What’s with the brow situation with the dudes, I ask you!
I love me some BCBatch, but I think he is a ginger in real life, hence the non-existant brows.
Yes!! I was thinking the exact same thing. I don’t quite get the swoons over Mr. Cumberbatch, but maybe it’s because I find the lack of eyebrows too distracting.
I think she looks adorables actually. Though the shoes are fugly, it’s Comic-Con, not a real red carpet.
It’s okay to not like Doctor Who. I only started watching the reboot because I love Christopher Eccleston and got sucked in. There is, though, some great writing behind the show these days, so it makes me sad you don’t watch, as you both appreciate great writing.
I concur on Matt Smith. I think he makes a great Doctor Who, but I don’t understand why women think he’s cute. He’s got a really interesting face, but not something I’d crush over. David Tennant was far easier on the eyes, even if he was eating the scenery half the time.
Arthur Darvill, however – who plays Karen Gillan’s husband on the show? Drool worthy. Rory will be missed. http://embed.polyvoreimg.com/cgi/img-thing/size/y/tid/36687733.jpg
I have the biggest love for Rory.
You’ve seen this, yes?

That is the best thing I’ve ever seen in my whole entire life.
David Tennant *sigh* the best Doctor, IMO.
Oh god, Arthur Darvill, you charming, handsome bastard, please marry me.
Get in line.
I will fight you bitches for Roranicus.
Why will Rory be missed?! What happens to Rory, is he not coming back for the next season?! Please tell me this isn’t true
Rory is the only person that can make stomach Amy. (I love Karen, but Amy can be really annoying at times). Rory forever lol
Are we sure this isn’t Ellie Kemper?
Actual LOL at this.
I’ve got to say if I owned something like that and got invited to Comic-con, I’d have to wear it, because what other occasion would it be so apropos?
It’s slightly distracting that the sleeves are the same length as the skirt, but if I had legs like that, I’d probably want to flaunt them too. Overall, I think it’s fun and casual, but pulled together.
I’ve been trying to get into Dr. Who, mostly because I’m so fond of Sherlock. I haven’t gotten into the Moffat years yet though, and have found it slow going, despite Christopher Eccleston.
Wait until you get to The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. That’s a Moffat episode pair and a good one.
My sister skipped straight through to the Matt Smith seasons, which frustrates me to no end. She tried to start on Chris Eccleston but couldn’t bond with him, however she has promised to go back and watch David Tennant.
I skipped Christopher Eccleston because I JUST CANNOT with him. He’s always the Earl of Sussex or whatever, walking in on his daughter shtupping the king’s bestie. But David Tennant MY GOD.
I love Karen as Amy Pond. I love Matt Smith, but he’ll never reach the pinnacle of Tennant. Tennant seemed more human or kinder. In other news, I am in love with that shirt and would have loved to see it over a cute red skirt (flouncy, A-line?) with asskicking booties, sleeves rolled up and spiky jewelry. So it’s an Unfug with love from me.
Weirdly, that’s why I prefer Smith; he seems less human, and, well, the Doctor isn’t human, he’s a very old alien. (I do love Tennant to pieces, and may have watched Fright Night just To see him in that delightfully greasy Criss Angel drag).
A super-hero pajama top worn over the bottom half of a Land’s End swimskirt is indeed on the nose for ComicCon. It’s also tragically ugly and poorly fitted. But if that’s her thing, good luck to her.
I would follow The Tenth Doctor and his sonic screwdriver anywhere in the universe.
I will admit that my obsession with doctor who is….intense. When the 10th doctor- David Tennant- left the show I felt genuine sadness, much the same way I felt after they cancelled MSCL. That said, I can see clearly enough to acknowledge that they dress crazypants in both real life and the show (Fez!). On the show it’s part of the character charm and so…is Ms Gillian here simply playing to her rabidly adoring fanbase and giving us what we want? I hope so. Otherwise there is really no excuse for those shoes.
“I wear loafers. Loafers are cool now.”
That needs a like button.
Doctor Who!!!!
But as much of a fan I am, I’m more of a 9 (Eccleston) or 10 (Tennant) girl than 11. You’re right, he doesn’t have any eyebrows!
That outfit is totally Karen Gillan – she never covers her legs up.
also. even if you don’t watch dr who, please look into timelord fashion (im talking gallifrey, age of rassilon here) . they have AMAZING capes. and hello. timothy dalton.
The dress is cute and smashingly appropriate for Comic-Con, but the frumpy 90s shoes really kill the outfit. ANYTHING would have worked better – a heel, a flat sandal, Doc Martens, Keds (in red), etc.
Lord above, I wish I was at Comic-Con!
Dr. Who Forever. And she is one of the best sidekicks so far.
I used to love “Doctor Who” but the current showrunner’s idea of character development (nonexistent) and fondness for trying to show just how clever he can be with complicated plots has run me off. I will enjoy my Eccleston and Tennant DVDs until the worm turns again.
Relevant: Karen Gillan is lovely, but the bangs make her look 12 years old and the shoes are clunkers. Perhaps she chose them for comfortable dashing from event to event.
Agreed. There is way too much convoluted plot going on lately. I love plot but I can’t even follow the story some times. 10 will forever be my Doctor.
That being said the outfit is perfect for the event.
That top is much-too-much on the nose for ComicCon. Yes,we get it, comics have sound effects. And look, so do you. How cute.
It was pretty cool when Roy Lichtenstein took lowbrow comic book art into highbrow galleries (although it would have been cooler if it had been original work instead of swipes). It was cute and then getting kind of tired when everyone had ironic Lichtenstein-esque t-shirts in the mid-80s. Now it’s just twee.
Maybe if she was at something completely, totally non-comic book, non-action film related. But here? Just no.
those shoes are a crime
The skirt make me clutch my pearls, but I am a grandmother of gals almost this age.
There’s NO Doctor like Tom Baker, and his scarf. EXTERMINATE!
One of my early TV memories was looking wide-eyed at the screen and asking “Daddy, why is the trash can mad at the man with the scarf??”
I still blame my scarf obsession on Tom Baker.
LOL!
I think the top and skirt are perfect ( I do wish the skirt was a bit longer, but only because I imagine how hard it is to remain lady like when sitting on a platform at a table in front of a bunch of people who are standing below you in front of said table)……The shoes are a crime…and they look like when I borrow my husband’s slippers to go get the paper.
I adore Karen Gillan and I think she is goooooooooooooorgeous. I could never ‘Fug’ her. I just don’t have it in me.
My wig is flipped. I looove Doctor Who, in all his versions, and Amy Pond is one of my fave sidekicks.
I agree the shoes aren’t great, but they’re such a long way down from the rest of her that I don’t really notice them. The rest is cute and event’appropriate, she looks like she’s having fun. What’s so bad about being ‘on the nose’ anyway?
I need an option for
• the shirt is good and appropriate but CHECK INTO PANTS.
Or a skirt that’s not invisible. Or something.
Also, I agree with those who don’t like the shoes.
Yeah, Doctor Who used to be great until David Tennant left. He was fantastic. You’d appreciate his suits. Matt Smith, while his outfits are dapper-ish, is no Tennant.
Can I say how HAPPY I am that this person is leaving Doctor Who? She was the worst companion EVER.
And this outfit is heinous – messy, stupid and makes her legs look shapeless.
And…I totally agree about the Eyebrow-Less Matt Smith. His hyperactive 11 was such a letdown after the utterly adorable David Tennant. The sooner this incarnation regenerates, the better. Bleh.
I hand-to-god thought this was Tiffany (you know, the mall maven/I Think We’re Alone Now 80s chanteuse?) and unfortunately that was reinforced by the 80s-era shoes. Of course, I don’t know how I thought Tiffany hadn’t aged in 30 years, but maybe it was the subtle time travel Dr. Who reference I was channeling.
I also do not watch Dr. Who. Thank you for helping me see that I am not alone in the universe.
The outfit is kind of “meh,” but her legs make me very happy.
I must take this picture to my hair colorist this evening. COVET.
Thank you SO MUCH for mentioning the eyebrows problem! It seriously bugs me every time I watch a Matt Smith episode!
I intensely disliked gurning Christopher Eccleston, which put me off Doctor Who until David Tennant’s second or third season. But then, oh then…
It’s cute! But I prefer a different shoes for this one though.
So, I actually got to see this in person at Comic-Con (yes, I squeeed a lot…am such a huge Doctor Who fan), and it was adorable. When she was sitting on the panel you couldn’t really make out exactly what was on the shirt and it just looked bright and fun and happy, which was the general mood in the room. I did laugh out loud when I saw the comment about Matt Smith not having eyebrows, because the girl who was sitting next to me and was the type of diehard fan who laughs just a little too loudly at every in joke also dropped the fact that she hasn’t been able to warm to Smith because he has no eyebrows! (I scoffed).
I also thought the Fug Girls would want to know that while I was waiting for the Doctor Who panel, I sat through a panel for the show Fringe, which I have never seen, but which included Joshua “Pacey” Jackson. He was absolutely as adorable and charming as you would hope he ever could be. More, even. Swoon.
Guys, her shoes suck because she’s like, 5’11″…and you all know how hard it is to find anything cute in the larger sizes.
Other than that, I love my Scottish ginger sister. Love, love, love her and her perfectly round head.
