Fug or Fab: Lily Cole

fug-or-fab

Is it wrong that I think this is totally divine, in a Red Riding Hood Before That Awkward Wolf/Grandma Incident Kind of Way?

I asked you a question!

Love the shoes – does that count?

Love the colour, cut, fit, fabric (everything, pretty much) of the dress. Do not love the shoes. Too mange-y and birdlike for my taste and also it irks me that the dark red in the shoe is completely off tone (it’s a blue-red) from the red of the dress (orange-red). Honestly, this might be a case for the humble nude shoe.

Yikes. I think it’s dreadful. The belt doesn’t go near the bunchy waist seam, there’s a cheezy looking snap pulling at the neckline, and the whole thing looks cheap, like something you’d buy in a discount store on 14th Street.

    And those shoes are TERRIFYING.

My only question is what is going on with her shoes? It kind of looks like she stepped on a dove and killed it, decided it made a decent addition to her shoes, and kept walking.

I like this, I wish she would dye her hair back to red though, this blond washes her out. I just saw Snow White and the Huntsmen and she had a nice, tiny little part.

This would be divine if the hem was about an inch below her knee. Total scrolldown fug. First the unexpected ending of the red and then the dove carcass.

Also a little blusher or eyeshadow would be nice.

Love the shoes, hate the dress. It looks like she just woke up and put a karate belt over an ill-fitting night robe.

I like it in theory, especially the color. However, in execution it looks a 10th grade sewing class put it together for a school play.

What happened to her beautiful red hair?

The shape is good. Lose the purse, the front placket, and the horrible sticking out pockets, the half-up, half-down cuff, and the terrible hemming job, and its great.

    Oh, nice shoes :-)

Guys, those aren’t doves or feathers on her shoes. They’re flowers. Big flowers.

I think the fabric is too heavy for the design of the dress; it needs to be sewn into a fitted waist instead of gathering it, because the result is really lumpy and makes the belt awkward. But I think the design would work if made in a lightweight fabric.

Yikes. I thought the shoes were bad, until I enlarged the photo. Then I realized the shoes are horrible.
I like the dress, though. More in theory than in reality, but it’s not bad. Not nearly as bad as those shoes.

Meh, and the shoes are awful. And I love me some crazy shoes.

I’ve never heard of this woman before, but her face fascinates me. It’s young/old, cute/plain, a dead-eyed pale face that looks like it could be on a Dutch doll.

    HAIL SATIN

    …no, I’m dead serious.

It looks like Natalie Portman from Black Swan crash-landed into her feet, though. (I know they’re flowers, but they really do look like feathers.) It’s almost crazy enough to work for me, though. And the shoes are a minor sin compared to the dress itself, which…is about a month early, but I’ll take it.

LOVE the look, but in no way is it appropriate for late summer. It practically screams “Christmas” to me.

Ya’ll- are those swimmer boys gorgeous or what? I would love to hear the fug girls riff on those bodies/ and of course athleticism….

The color is completely amazing, and the shoes are cute, but does it not count that the bust darts are at her shoulders and the waistline is way above her belt?

I think the fabric looks really cheap and it’s poorly made. The hem is puckered, and the waist is really scrunchy. Also, the matchy belt isn’t sitting on the waist. This is a miss.

I want to hike that belt up just a wee fraction to cover the bunchy seam – but which one of us hasn’t had the same issue? Also, I kind of want to give her a slightly bolder brow. Does this count as an issue? Probably not, but it is for me. I have a slight brow obsession.

The dress is problematic for all the reasons discussed above–for me, the cheap-looking fabric and poor construction are really unforgivable. I think I like the basic concept of this shirtdress-cigarette girl getup; it’s just done very poorly here.

That said, is it terribly wrong of me to actually have liked the shoes when I thought they were feathers, and then didn’t like them at all when I looked closer and saw that they’re flowers? They look cheap close up. But imagine if they were feathers. I could dig it. In a parallel universe, those shoes are made with feathers and they are awesome.

LOVE the color, the cut, the style & the length of the dress, but I have a problem with the fit! And, the shoes are awesome! I want the whole outfit on me right now! FAB!!!

Love the flower shoes, might like the… red thing (is it a coat, is it a dress, is it a coat dress?) but it is missing the mark for all the reasons already listed. A clutch would make it hang a whole lot better, without that pesky strap tugging on everything.

Her fake tan looks odd, but I really do love those shoes, especially with the dark pedicure.

Shoes are good, but the rest… why? And while we are at it why not keep the natural hair colour too – made her more unique :D

I so want this to work, but it just doesn’t. The dress is wonky and ill-constructed in about eleven different ways. And why put that weird, matte, felt-y belt on a shiny satin dress? It’s both too matchy and not close enough. I appreciate the concept behind this, but it’s poorly executed here. I’m not sure what shoes I would put with this dress, but I don’t like these. I have to agree, though, that her kewpie-doll face is compelling, Pity she decided to accessorise her lovely pale face with fake tan legs.

I’m all for feathers, but her shoes look like bird roadkill.
I’m not really a fan of the coat, either. She looks like santa’s mistress.

The coat/dress has possibilities, although it looks like she is meeting her hot boyfriend at the airport with nothing underneath. (Not necessarily a bad thing, please note.)

The shoes? Are CRACKED THE EFF OUT.

I’m okay with the dress, the shoes, the makeup, even the blonde hair–I think it works better on her than it does on most redheads who go bleachy.

But why, why, why must her legs be several shades darker than the rest of her body? Lily, you’re an ambassador for pale girls the world over! Resist the fake bake! Flaunt the alabaster!

    Hate the fit!!!!

I love that look! So eye-catching and naughtily sexy. I agree with all the criticisms (poor fit, bad fabric, etc.) and yet somehow it all works. I think it’s a look that appeals more to men, precisely because it looks kinda like a bright-red trenchcoat which might come off at any moment, leaving you in just those crazy, sexy shoes. Awesome.

Digging it. And I don’t know who she is, but she is weirdly cute. As much as I love the outfit, I kinda couldn’t take my eyes off her face for several seconds.

That is the cheesiest looking thing I’ve ever seen–love the wacky shoes though.

Love those shoes! And I’d love the dress if I could just take apart and reassemble the bodice- lowering the waist to her actual waist, stitching down the lapel parts to make a nice crossover without needing to use a snap that looks like a metallic zit. Love the color, material, sleeves, length, and everything else including the pockets.

Her face is 100% Betty Boop.

I don’t know who this girl is, but her face is creeping me out. Why is it shaped like that??

She’s Lily Cole. She’s a model. You can Google her and pictures will come up, as if by magic. Her face is shaped like that because it’s cute to have a face shaped like that.
