Only once in the history of NCAA March Madness have all four No. 1 seeds faced off in the Final Four — last season, incidentally — and yesterday it happened for the first time in Fug Madness. Top-tier fuggers Solange “Picked The Worst Way To Try And Draw Attention From Beyonce” Knowles, Mischa “Headbands” Barton, Aubrey “My Dog Is My Handbag” O’Day, and Tilda “SWINTON” Swinton went at it in two brutal games yesterday; poor Intern George almost yanked out all his hair. (It was an emotional day for him, what with all the stress of deciding who to vote for and then the ER season finale. To soothe him, we fattened his Bellini budget.)
Thanks to your tens of thousands of votes yesterday, the only two walking mishaps still standing are:

This will be a difficult decision. They are both fug, but they are different kinds of fug. I really dislike trashy fug so I suspect I’ll vote for Aubrey. But then again… oh hell. I don’t know!
We’ve discussed so many various interpretations of “Fug” in the comments — deliberate fug, accidental fug, fug that is chemically induced or inflicted by stylists of evil, skanky fug and Fug as High Art. We have Fug you Love to Hate, and Fug You Hate to Love, and Fug that makes you feel ooky, and Fug you can’t help admiring. Fug has grown to archetypal status, encompassing contradictions. Whatever the original intention of this site and the Fug girls original statement of Fug, it has evolved — as any active, growing thing will.
Fug is not what it was, so arguing that it must and should be a singular thing is kinda sorta without purpose, because, well, that was then and this is now.
What we have here is a direct competition between two extremes of Fug, so far from one another as to hardly seem related except in their ability to make us stare with our mouths open and our diet soda fizzing away. Monday will not really define any one particular kind of fug over another so much as solidify that Fug is Inclusive, Expansive, and a part of our lives.
After all, without the Fug, we’d be really bored at work right now. REALLY bored.
So let us pay proper honor to all the ugly, eye watering, horrible, puzzling, confusing, vomit inducing sartorial splendor we have witnessed. Let’s have a good time with it — they sure as hell seem to be having fun INFLICTING it on us — and, with the excellent snark of our beloved Fug Girls, ride into Monday without any sore losers or sour grapes, because, really — aren’t ALL these fugly contestants really losers, and yet somehow winners in a weird twisted way.

It’s a simple choice for me. There are occasions (granted, few and far between)when SWINTON looks marvelous – when her bizarre risks pay off. But that other skank has never looked like less than a steaming pile of skank roadkill.

My initial reaction is AOD because of the dog thing and she’s gross. Puts the F in Fug if you know what I mean. And I think that SWINTON is avant-garde style rather than fug. She looks cool in a (very) weird way, not fugly.

To me, it all comes down to one question: Whose fug is more offensive? Avant-garde-fug can be worse, at times, because it’s so expensive and pretentious. But I believe that Swinton almost always pulls it off. On her, it seems organic, interesting, and often beautiful. And skanky fug is not always more offensive; sometimes it’s so *fun* that it’s hard to be offended, especially when the fugger is young. HOWEVER, in the case of AOD, it is not fun, it is not cute, it is just YUCK. Hands down, AOD is the more offensive fugger. I adore SWINTON, but this is no way to honor her contributions to fuggery. Vote Aubrey.

As I sit and reflect of the meaning of Fug Madness on Fug Madness Championship Eve Eve Eve, I already know that I am going to vote for SUPERLATIVE SWINTON, because of this: if one can make super audacious fug look GOOD rather than UTTERLY RIDICULOUS AND STUPID, one has conquered, mastered, and re-directed the Force of Fug to one’s own designs, and THAT, to me, deserves not only a super-long run-on sentence in my comment, but a big, fat, vehement vote in that person’s favor. We went to the MOMA the other evening to see some art. Fancy, right? I wore a black turtleneck so people would take me seriously.
As I was wandering around, I overheard this:

This one has been HARD. Especially with SWINTON in the mix. She is definitely the goddess of fug but who should win Fug Madness depends largely on how you would define the winner. SWINTON is a winner. She’s simply amazing. She wears the most horrendous things and comes off avant garde while Aubrey just comes off trashy. I guess it begs the question, is this contest reward or punishment? If it is reward for the most creative use of fug then SWINTON is your goddess. If it is punishment for the most trashy hobo/hooker look, then Aubrey is your girl.

Am only on Chapter 4, but it explains my dilemma about SWINTON and O’Day (and Paris and Britney, et al) and how civilians imitating pathological celebrity narcissism is becoming the creeping crud zombiefication of the entire WORLD (well, more or less, you’ll have to read it for yourself), which really got me thinking, and now I know I MUST vote SWINTON, as a vote for O’Day will turn us all into slobbering wanna-be fools for fame, because it is, apparently, CATCHING, and I don’t want to catch ANYthing O’Day has, ugh, ick, shiver, EVER! I beg a favor of you, sweet Fug Girls, as the connoisseurs of human folly we know you to be, please please indulge us with a match between Aubrey O’Day and Mischa Barton and a match between Solange and SWINTON. Here’s my reasoning: We knew Aubrey O’Day would beat Solange, because Aubrey is disgusting, and it appears that gross fug plays by its own rules, fueling its successes with the ick factor, when matched against the fug of Solange’s overinflated sense of creativity and outfits the likes of which Paula Abdul probably only creates in her dreams.
La Barton, despite the nasty head-garters, couldn’t stand up to SWINTON’s domination of the alien brains-applique genre of fug, because SWINTON makes no apologies for her clothing and Mischa is merely a bedraggled guttersnipe of the same crap-colored stripe as Aubrey. Aubrey is not even in the same fug category as SWINTON. A victory in favor of one or the other would not fully satisfy the question of whose fug reigns supreme. We all know that there’s fugly, and then there’s FUGLY. I bet you can guess who is who.
Now I would LOVE to see a match between Solange and SWINTON. Look at them – Solange doesn’t care, obviously, that her feet are clothed in horse trimmings, and SWINTON doesn’t see anything wrong in swaddling her head in the split ends of a sasquatch. Of these two fug priestesses, who reigns? If I’m not mistaken, that might be me! Though I wanted Solange and Bai Ling to be characters on Passions as mother-daughter and half-sisters from the future. SWINTON would totally fit in there though! Two words, ladies: Fairy Godmother! oh GOD!! This is quite ridiculous now. There is no contest, the SWINTONites will crown Tilda and it will be a complete joke, disregarding the whole point of this site and the true meaning of fug. The anomalies of fug are a definite part of this forum but only as the exceptions that prove the rule and therefore outside the spirit and meaning of FUGLY. I LOVE Swinton, but I fear she will win just for being her amazing, original, and talented self which is NOT the same thing as Fug. Fug in the truest sense is negative and even when Swinton wears crazy outfits, they are mostly just creative and adventurous and very very her style, not “FUG”. Aubrey O’Day should win for the hot mess she is. O’Day dresses to not only provoke, but she honestly thinks she looks GOOD and sexy which couldn’t be more delusional. I feel that Misha should be up against her…Someone as talented and rad as Swinton got to the finals for the love that we all feel for her and the love the site gives her, not for true fug (and voting for what the fug girls love is like the sheep who vote on Idol based on what the judges say…) Swinton was actually quite subtle this year for her when you look at past outfits like the Oscar dress the year she won (not eligible). I have watched the movie Orlando so many times and she will never be the Queen of Fug to me.

I know AOD will lose because you people undermine her victory from the beginning with all this swinton nonsense!! Maybe I am the dissident (sp?) here but let us ponder for a meaning -what is the true meaning of Fug? and let ourselves give an answer based on the orthologism of Descartes far away from sentimentalities: “Fug is something that makes your eyes sore” Ms Swinton does not make my eyes sore-she just sometimes makes my heart bleed though but this is another thing. I think we need a secondary FUG tournament. In basketball, there is the NCAA, and then there is the NIT. The NIT is for all the losers that didn’t deserve the attention of the NCAA, but still want a place to play. Therefore, Swinton, Solange, and all the fuggers that are on the “celebrate fug/love to hate” side would be in the “NCAA” version, and Phoebe Price, AOD, Katie “Jordan” Price, and the rest of the “punish fug” side would be in the “NIT” version. I have been reading these comments (some in favor of SWINTON, some in favor of what’s-her-toes) and I have had an epiphany of sorts, which I will now share.
Many people have been saying that SWINTON is not fug, because she is avant-garde and high fashion and she is a goddess and she makes us love her wackiness. All of which is true. The point, however, is that her outfits. Are. INSANE. No matter how much SWINTON-ness (SWINTON-ness: being so far out of your mind that you actually seem not only sane but wonderfully, fabulously cool; see Tilda Swinton) gets in our eyes when we look at her, her clothes are about twelve kinds of nuts. And THAT is why I vote for her: she’s crazy and I love her anyway. Aubrey O’Day just makes me want to hit her over the head with a tube sock full of wood screws. She wants the attention and I refuse to give it to her.

Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
