Fug or Fab: Mila Kunis

fug-or-fab

So, yesterday we all had a spirited chatty-chat about Natalie Portman. As my friend Grant pointed out, it’s weird that she, of all people, is so divisive. Who knew? I’m glad we’re able to get past that to discuss another brunette in tulle:

I had a moment of realization a few weeks ago that, as the other side to the Natalie Portman coin, I am kind of weirdly fond of Mila Kunis and I seriously have no reason why. I didn’t really watch The 70s Show, and although I thought she was charmingly relaxed in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I’ve really never seen her in anything else. Maybe I enjoy that she’d been dating MacCauley Culkin for like a hundred years? Who knows? Regardless, while it’s true that I might not notice if she quit acting to become, like, a landscape architect, I like her in a weird way. The same might be said for this dress: the tulle, for me, works in a sort of sexy lingerie kind of way, rather than looking like a bedraggled Halloween costume on November 1st.

So close! But the front looks sloppy and accidental, like it got caught in her hose.

She is just gorgeous though, isn’t she? And I have no idea who she is.

  2. Kate the Average

I, too, have a fondness for Mila, but it looks like she’s trying too hard to pass for Angelina Jolie. The hair, the eye makeup, the slinky black dress (though this is better than anything worn AJ in a looooong time). Mila is far prettier, in my opinion, and shines when she lets her unique style and beauty reign.

  3. Jessica

    Forgetting Sarah Marshall

  4. yeahandalso

I am only confused by how this is a question, she looks awesome

  5. Bobbi

I vote love, but on closer inspection, I wish the picture didn’t have the dress blend in with the carpet so much, I can’t tell about the gathering of the tulle across her tummy. The pleating might downgrade love to like.

  6. Kim

I voted “love” because she’s giving a look as if to say “Do you not see Denzel behind me, looking over my shoulder? Denzel has my back. Better think about it before you click that mouse.”

Nah, just kidding – she looks amazing. Love the hair, dress, shoes, attitude – it all works.

  7. GuanaContessa

Another actress who needs a sandwich. She was always petite, but now she’s bordering on skeletal.

Love the outfit and styling, though! (yes, even the tulle)

  8. Dina

A much better tulle-rie! Perhaps a tad too serious, but maybe the reason I feel that way is that I’ve actually seen more of The 70s Show than I should have…

  9. kate13

Oh, and, not on the subject, but can it just be, Magnum PI, the Mustachical? I don’t really care about the rest of Tom Selleck’s life. Did anyone else get a weird Nathan Lane vibe from Mr. Whitford’s photo?

  10. djheydt

To clarify: I’d never even heard of the actress. But I do like the dress.

  11. Marph

It would look better without the tulle. And guanacontessa is right – girlfriend really needs a sandwich.

  12. Mjx

I have completely neutral feelings about both Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, but no question: the latter’s dress works far better than Natalie’s outfit. Mila’s dress looks quite well composed and well integrated, while Natalie looked as though she had to find something at the last minute, to cover up what turned out to be way to sheer, or something.

  13. Jeannie

She does a lot of voice acting also, like Family Guy and Robot Chicken. Love her!

  14. IseultTheIdle

I like the tulle on this. I also like hats with veils, though, so take it with an appropriate amount of sodium.

  15. Zuzzie

I don’t like that kind of draping, or whatever it’s called, it looks to me like she went to the loo and the hem got of the dress got caught in her underwear. I just want to reach and pull it down.
I’m very partial to the one-shoulder action though.
    So.. confused.
    Don’t mind her though.

  16. GFY Jessica

Whoops, of course it’s “Forgetting.’ My bad — thanks for the catch, Jessica.

  17. Meghan

She’s adorable as Meg on Family Guy. It is a little “An Ice Capades Funeral with Dorothy Hamill” but not awful.

  18. Katie

She looks graceful and elegant, if a bit to somber. The tulle high on the thigh lets it be a bit sexy. It has a whif of ballerina, but not so much that it seems costumey.

  19. Katie

She looks graceful and elegant, if a bit to somber. The tulle high on the thigh lets it be a bit sexy. It has a whif of ballerina, but not so much that it seems costumey.

  20. Tia

Love her and loved her on “That 70s Show”. She’s Meg on “Family Guy”, but much like Brittany Murphy’s long haul doing Luanne on “King of the Hill” it’s the sort of thing you don’t notice unless someone points it out to you.

I also agree with the “needs a sandwich” verdict…

  21. JOSHWAHHH

This is a “meh” from me. I have a SUSPICION that it is lovely but it blends in with the carpet and everything. Too much black to swallow pretty Ms. Kunis.

Also, she’s the voice of Meg on Family Guy.

  22. christine christine

I don’t think she looks too skinny! Isn’t she in ballet training for some movie role? You can tell it’s working by the way she is standing.

Anyway, I think she looks gorgeous. No changes needed.

  23. Winona

Make the opaque portion about 6″ longer.
    Accessorize with a cheeseburger.

  24. Cassie

I really like her. I’ve watched way too much That 70s Show, and I liked her a lot in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. She’s just so naturally, effortlessly gorgeous to me.

I think the dress is okay, but only okay. Maybe it would work on someone taller? It’s kind of swallowing her whole.

  25. Amy!

I really like her too! I think she’s lovely, especially here, where she adds some super sexy into the mix, and I have loved her in pretty much everything she’s been in. Plus, it seems like she has a great sense of humor and would be a fun girl to hang out with.

  26. Maria

Oddly enough, I had a ballet costume that looked like this, in green, many years after I wore Natalie’s look from yesterday. I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying these strolls down memory lane.

That said, Mila is a lovely girl, and I find myself torn between wanting to ask her snarkily what she was doing raiding a middle-aged woman’s storage bin and congratulating her for looking ladylike and pulled together.

  27. Delta Sierra

Put down the tulle. Step away from the tulle. Towards a sandwich.

  28. EJB

I think Mila Kunis looks like Marion Cotillard here (which is not a bad thing, as both actresses are quite beautiful). I would have to see this dress from another angle (such as the side where her hand is resting on her hip) to tell whether I like it or not, though.

  29. Amber

I completely agree with the aforementioned dislike of Natalie Portman (“Look at me! I shaved my head again!”) and a strange love for Mila.

Back on topic on the fashion front: I rarely am a fan of the one-shoulder thing, yet this works for me. Also, her makeup and everything is fab.

  30. Amy

It’s her screetchy voice that ruins her cuteness.

  31. K.

My interest in Mila Kunis is like a 5.5; just slightly more pro than neutral, pushed over by Family Guy. I dig the dress save for the dangly strip of fabric hanging off the one shoulder. I like one-shoulder stuff, but I don’t like that piece hanging down. Lop it off and I’d wear that.

  32. Maretha2

Mila’s dress is miles better than Natalie’s outfit yesterday.
Mila is miles more attractive than Natalie.
Mila is a much better actor than Natalie.

    Mila for the win!

I know her mainly from Family Guy, which obviously doesn’t rely on her looks. She’s great on that show–and I am skeptical that La Portman could do anything half as well.

  33. Anne B

Mila strikes me as one of those people we don’t see out much, which is a shame. Because (and I say this as a woman with a raging crush on Jom Hamm), YOWZA.*

Sure, she could gain a few pounds. But couldn’t most of Hollywood? Whatevs. I say to my kid, “There are actors starving in Studio City, you’d better finish your pasta,” and even she can’t manage to care anymore.

Back to the outfit: I hella want** that dress. If I wore it I’d make it longer in the front … but I don’t have Mila’s legs.

Never been a fan of tulle, but this tulle must have done something very good in its stiff and uncomfy life, to end up on her.

    **I never say “hella”.
    *Again: YOWZA.

  34. Maureen

Why is this a debate…she looks fantastic! Other “actresses” her age are giving away too much T&A. Mila looks youthful and mature.

  35. Jessica

Ha ha, I caught it because I ADORE Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Mila Kunis’s contribution to it. Can’t wait for the sequel!

  36. dinsdale

I voted “confused” because I am in the camp that feels it looks like her underskirt is hitched up in her undies. She is very cute, and the overall cut and drape of the dress is nice. Just don’t like the partially exposed part.

  37. Janellionaire

Why on earth would they have a black carpet? Regardless, she looks gorgeous. If I turn the brightness way up on the flat shiny part of my computer (monitor? nah that sounds wrong) it looks like there is some fantastic draping going on here. The whole thing is very balanced, with the one shoulder and the…hiked-up part on the one side. Wow I feel articulate. Anyways, love her, love the look. Well done! OH and as to the Natalie Portman love/hate debate of yesterday, I don’t mind her, except she reminds me of Kiera Knightley, whom I loathe.

  38. M.Amanda

I love how she’s so beautiful and played a girl who was so arrogant about that on one show, then went on to voice a character whose unattractiveness is mentioned regularly. It makes me think she’s the kind of girl I could shop and laugh with.

I think she looks gorgeous here, but that much leg with the tulle hanging down looks too much like a bathroom tucking accident.

  39. mongerel

Love all of it…except the eyeliner applied inside the lash line. It makes her eyes look squinty and vaguely unhygienic.

  40. Sarah

See, I DON’T like her and I’m not quite sure why. She seems like a perfectly lovely person, and yet, something grates. Could be the Family Guy connection, I dunno.

That said, she looks absolutely gorgeous here.

  41. jennnifer

I just have to say I LOOOOOVE, LOVE that you said landscape architect, ’cause I am one and it’s always exciting when people know that this field exists. My excitement completely distracted me from proper sartorial judgment.

    That is all.

  42. hmm

It seems like someone did her styling (neck up) to evoke Angelina Jolie. Or is it her facial expression? Either way, she pulls it off and – in my opinion – looks way better than AJ does in similar styling/makeup.

  43. Danielle Lilly

I think she looks great but I keep thinking she got part of her dress caught in her panties after she went to the ladies room.

  44. Caitlin

    To Christine Christine

She is doing a ballet movie, and oddly enough, it’s with Natalie Portman. That being said, this does remind me of a ballet costume, but in the best way. Also, love Mila, she is stunning

  45. Zhenya

    This is lovely.

    However…

I would enjoy seeing a statement necklace instead of the earrings and shoes or a clutch bag that spoke a little more of her youth.

  46. Alexis

I hate to love this dress. It’s modern, it’s sassy, it’s elegant. I love to hate her bad botox job. The right half of her face is toally distorted.
And no, she doesn’t even come close to Angelina’s fabulousness. Nobody does. Except for Alexis Carrington.

  47. sandy

I think she pulls it off.
And I, too, have a random fondness for her that’s not really based on her work. She just seems like an around-the-way Girl to me, who’s sassy and chill and wouldn’t take shit from people. (I got this impression solely from ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and an episode of Punk’d.)

  48. Katie

MK is just adorable and could look fab in just about anything.

I’m not a Portman fan either! Thank God I’m not alone in my dislike for Miss Supreme Uppity-ness.

  49. Sandra

I’m with Kate13. This is sooooo close to being a really cute outfit. I’d like the floaty tulle layer a lot better if the under-skirt didn’t have a big chunk ripped out of it. I don’t get a “sophisticated and sexy” vibe from this so much as a “somebody forgot to finish stitching this” vibe. Nonetheless, it is much more attractive than that get-up Natalie Portman had on.

  50. marcia

I don’t love the eyeliner, and think she could use a little more color on her lips. But, all in all, she looks good.

Off topic, that’s not Sharon Stone on that Tattler. They got their covers mixed up and it was supposed to say: It’s Sarah Jessica Parker!

    Right? No? No. ew.

  51. Katy

She does look a lot like Angelina Jolie – I think it’s a combination of pose, facial expression and the fact that she’s wearing all black. She has that faintly superior, detached Angelina look to her.

  52. Kates

An invitation to all the brunettes in tulle, Portman and Kunis, et al:

    EAT SOMETHING.

    Thanks.

  53. Natalie

It’s the SHOES! The dress, while lovely, would be ruined had she not paired it with something so elegant. WIN!

  54. Jen

What is that S next to her head? At first, I thought it was a weird Medusa like snake, hair extension. Please tell me it isn’t, and that she isn’t auditioning for “Sinbad: On the High Seas” or whatever…

  55. MN

Mila always manages to look amazing.

  56. Anonymous

Oh I love her, she’s adorable! Also, having seen her last night on Craig Ferguson(whom I also love), she seems super nice and down to earth.

She is looking a bit skinny, but not necessarily in this picture. The dress is absolutely gorgeous. Shoes and makeup are fitting, and I like her hair and earrings. Girl looks good. A+ look.

  57. NanFan

She just completed a film with Natalie Portman, they’re both ballarina’s and she plays the mean one.
She was on Craig Ferguson last night and had on another amazing dress along with I Would Kill to Own Shoes.

  58. Kimberly

You all do realize that, amidst all this ‘skinny’ chatter about Miss Kunis & Miss Portman, they are both currently filming ‘The Black Swan’ together (with Winona Ryder) and they both play ballerinas! No wonder! Again, having worked on the film, I can say, rather factually, that Winona is a total sweetheart, Mila is friendly and cool, and Portman is a total brat.

  59. Julie O.

She looks like Angelina’s more approachable (less “I’ll cut you”) younger sister here. Gorgeous, slightly exotic, demure on top, but edgy and sexy with the cut of the skirt. WELL PLAYED!!

  60. Oblaadee

    I love her.
    I love her dangling earrings.
    I love her amazing shoes.
I love most one shoulder dresses.
    I love fug love.

  61. Lida

I like how the skirt is gathered, and it helps that she is totally working this look! Megan Fox, take note, this is how you do sexy without looking too vampy.

  62. Hannah

I liked her on That 70s Show = I like her always. Also, I get her confused with Vanessa Hudgens, then I realize I like her more, then I realize I weirdly don’t hate Vanessa either. Also, her name rules. BTW I have just outlined my basic “do I like this celebrity?” decision-making process.

  63. Hannah

I just read a comment saying she’s filming with NP and WINONA RYDER so I’ll just declare my Winona love for the record. I LOVE HER.

  64. Lizzie

Well, the top is really pretty, and surprisingly put-together given that it’s another one-strap creation. I don’t mind the tulle much, but I DO wish the non-sheer part of her skirt were just a tad longer. And she’s pretty, but she could use a good grilled cheese sandwich or two.

  65. Lizzy Tizzy

    Dress caught in underwear!

  66. Lizzy Tizzy

    Dress caught in underwear!

  67. lapluie

I love her too! I think I am intrigued by the fact that she immigrated to the US from the Ukraine when she was 9. She seemed so ‘typical US teen’ on That 70s Show.

  68. holly

I think is lovely: dress, hair, makeup, accessories. I’m not crazy about tulle and initially thought I’d prefer it all solid, but then I realized the tulle creates a fantastic diagonal line from the shoulder down to the other – er, corner? If the tulle was missing it would just look a little trampier. After all the GFY shots of Blake Lively the past few months, I just can’t take any more dresses cut up to here. (You can’t see me, but my hand is pointing to my hip.)

  69. meaghan

you love her because she’s on family guy!
and her dress isn’t great but her face/overall bone structure means she can do no wrong.

  70. meaghan

you love her because she’s on family guy!
and her dress isn’t great but her face/overall bone structure means she can do no wrong.

  71. Craig

I love the outfit, and I love Mila. She seems like someone you’d go out with for beers and she’d get all buzzed and maybe a little loud without being completely obnoxious, and she’d become convinced that some guy is totally into you and insist that you speak to him, so you do, and it turns out that he’s not so much on board with the whole “into you” thing, and she gets mad at him on your behalf and you have to find another bar to hang out in, but it’s the most fun you’ve had all month, and you end up at late-night Denny’s because you are craving that skillet meal thing that I could totally go for right now.

  72. Lang

She’s a gorgeous girl, there’s no doubt about it. She has a really irritating voice, though. Like nails on a chalkboard.

  73. Mort

    Classy and sexy.

  74. Ruth

When did she turn into a lollipop? She used to be so cute and sexy, now she is just looks like another too skinny hollywood drone. zzz

  75. Faye

I think if the tulle was removed and the dress’s hem lowered to a less, er, revealing length, it would be perfect. Love the asymmetrical design, and her face is perfection.

  76. Pearl

Doesn’t it look like the front of her underskirt got caught in her pantyhose during a recent trip to the ladies room? The rest of it is okay but the front skirt… huh?

  77. sunnyfish

    Stunning.

  78. taj

I think the sophisticated and polished hair balances the floaty tulle dress.

  79. Michiko

This wasn´t love at first sight: I voted “hate to love”, but now I just love it. Where can I find one and could my body pull it of? :-D

  80. Angie

Natalie Portman is beautiful, Mila Kunis is cute.

This dress, those shoes and styling in general is fab. I heart black!

  81. Stephie D. Katz Extraordinaire

I actually DO love Mila Kunis…she just strikes me as smart, down-to-earth, with a wicked sense of humor. Also, it IS totally cool that she’s been dating Macaulay Culkin for so damn long…Also, unlike Natalie Portman, after reading an interview with her I love her more and want to know more about her; whereas with Portman, I feel like so often my thinking is: Shut up already.

  82. Claire

    She is GORGEOUS.

  83. Gwen

You might like her because she played the young Gia in the movie, “Gia”. Maybe?

  87. Jude7714

I don’t know why I like Mila, either. I just do. And I think my impression of Natalie Portman as an actress went way down after the Stars Wars prequels – she was just terrible. Mila hasn’t turned me off yet, as an actress. She’s been consistent so far.

And she’s beautiful, no doubt about it – as others have commented, it really wouldn’t matter what you put on her, she’s going to look stunning no matter what.

Sidenote, since we’re discussing fashion: Anyone know where that suit came from that she wore in Forgetting Sarah Marshall? It’s in the last Hawaii scene when the guy gives her her topless photo back. Love that suit. Then again, maybe it’s only because she’s wearing it . . .

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I had been performing tria laser hair removal system treatments for over a year now on my mustache. Before this I had a thick dark beard. I’m pleased with the final results. The hairs are very thin and I haven’t gone back for re-application in roughly six months. Let me say that it did hurt a little bit on my top lip and there ended up being occasions that I got a little bit of redness on my face. I suggest Intense pulsed light to those with thicker hairs or currently have major sections of hair they really want to get rid of. For the males that want to do their tough facial beard be prepard to get spots within the coming several weeks and lots of people saying dude whats wrong with your beard.

I was doing home laser hair removal applications for over a year now on my beard. Before this I had a really thicker dark beard. I am pleased with the results. The actual hairs are very thin and I have not gone back for treatment in approximately 6 months. I’ll point out that it did feel painful a little on my upper lip and there were instances when I had a little bit of redness on my chin. I would recommend Intense pulsed light to those with thick hairs or have big areas of hair they really want to eliminate. For the guys who want to do their own tough beard be prepard for patches within the following months’ time and a lot of people saying dude whats wrong with your facial hair.

I have not had a puff in over a year. The toughest part concerning quiting smoking most likely the first 1 to 2 weeks. The good news is that part went away quickly and things improved day by day on account of the e cigs. Don’t stop trying. Just keep going with it and you are likely to have great results forever.

  204. Lala Altenhofen

I have begun to realize finally quitting can be literally impossible. I began smoking cigarettes when I was in my teens. It was the most unfortunate mistake I’ve made. At present 20 years later and I have bronchitis. I tested all the stopping hints but not a thing helped me. My last try will be the compare e-cigs in the end.

Today is only Day 5, but yesterday was hard. The first four days I felt pretty good and a sense of relief. I felt I was making the right choice to give up pot but somehow without pot and alcohol life just seems grey. I used to look forward to smoking pot and really enjoyed it. Ironically, I don’t feel a whole lot different without it – I think I had built up so much tolerance I wasn’t really getting that high, but without it I am more anxious and irritable. Unmotivated. I just hope today is easier.
