“Me? Hollywood ROYALTY? Little old MEEEE? Well, if you insist! Kurt DID tell me I looked like I was dressed up to go to my own coronation, and I told him that if he was trying to say something to me then he should just SAY it STRAIGHT and he started laughing and told me not to forget my sceptre, so I told him I’d be happy to bring it if he’d pull it out of his ass first, and yada yada yada, so I’m wearing gloves. Anyway! I see no reason why I SHOULDN’T dress to the nines — ha, get it, the nines? At Nine? Tee-hee! — because this is MY night. MY daughter is in this movie, singing, and it’s all because of ME, her Hollywood Royalty mother, and so it’s only appropriate that I am the star of this red carpet and she is my adoring arm candy and… wait, what’s that you’re saying? Her dress has a WHAT? Hang on while I look:
“A train, EH, Kate? Trying to steal the limelight at your movie premiere from the font of your DNA? Is that the girl I raised? Well. If THAT’S how you want to play it. I know people who know people and I’m pretty sure your high heel will end up on that thing by the end of the night and that ripping sound you hear will be JUSTICE. Also, I DID bring my sceptre and I’m not afraid to use it.”

Comments (60):
I am just so thrilled to see old Goldie Covered up for once. Now if she could cut her hair befitting someone who is not 20 we’d have something not desperate looking standing next to the fab Kate.
Queen Goldie at least looks like she may have bathed (although the royal Corgies must have gotten into her hair, because it’s a bit of a hot mess). Princess Kate? Oh, sooooo close. You’re looking so well groomed and that dress fits you well and is sufficiently sparkly and the shoes go and all. But the train? OFF WITH THE TRAIN! Maybe mom can accidentally step on it and take care of it that way.
Goldie Hawn can do no wrong.
Okay. That’s a lie, but I will love her forever and ever and ever and ever no matter what.
Now that was a perfectly good looking sparkly holiday event dress, WHY THE TRAIN WHY. And I don’t like the way Goldie is looking at Kate in that second photo, nor do I like the way Kate is looking at the camera. It’s all too Hollywood fakey poseur and mum-daughter competitive. Eek.
Just watched the trailer for Nine, oy. “Guido Guido Guido.” Deleteo deleteo deleteo.
Goldie looks great, but her bangs have been driving me nuts for years. How does she put up with hair in her eyes all the time?
Kate looks stunning. I want to say the train ruins it, but I not-so-secretly think it takes the dress from rockin’ to OMG Divalicious HOT. Lose the train and it’s just another sexy, sparkly dress.
I like the train. I think the dress is hot and Kate is working it. Goldie is awesome but her dress feels a bit much!
Kate’s shoes are to. die. for. I covet.
I saw that train and wanted to do one of those dramatic soap opera wails. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The dress was so cute! Okay, I wouldn’t have gone with the matchy matchy black and silver sequin shoes, and I’m not sure what that pattern is supposed to be (the spots where two of the little blobs run together kind of look like one of those phantom of the opera masks), but still – it was cute and sparkly and festive, and she actually did her hair in a style that could not be described as “beachy” for once. If Goldie really loved her she would have followed her out of the limo with a pair of scissors!
What about the mold pattern on Kate’s dress?
That train on her dress puts me in the mind of when people are trailing toilet paper from the bottom of their shoes and/or have some hanging out of their pants. Cripplingly embarrassing.
Why is no one mentioning the pics of Nicole Kidman who has white face powder ALL over her face????
Kate’s dress is spectacular. The pose in the second photograph…WOW! What grace. And the train draws attention to her best asset (pretty legs). The hairstyle is perfectly feminine without being fussy. That look was made for her, and she was made for it. She has never looked better.
And Goldie is the perfect diva — who has earned the title and the trimmings. Don’t be too hard on the gloves, please, they hide her hands which probably show a little age.
Divine ensembles, both. The photographer had to be thrilled to snap these.
Goldie looks great, and even the gloves/stole combo just fit her fun personality. The hair, though, makes her look like she rolled out of bed, especially next to her finely polished daughter.
The train…eh. Unnecessary and confusing.
I’n not sure about the train. Maybe if she cut it so it was the same length as the skirt, it might look interesting. But really I’d be happier without it.
I don’t really get the feeling that Goldie’s looking desperate. I’m not sold on her hairdo, but it’s not that bad. Desperate is what Pamela Anderson looks like, not Goldie.
I read the Project Rungay Guys earlier today and they called Goldie “Miss Piggy”! Awww… I was a little angry and laughed at the same time because she does look like one in this outfit! Just the gloves alone!
Anyway I am not sure about the train but then again without it, the dress would be just yet another sparkly short dress as one of the commenters pointed out earlier. Hm….
Goldie’s bangs work perfectly to draw attention away from what she doesn’t want you to look at. You’re wondering why they’re so long, not why her eyes look so dang old. Notice, too, that they come down over crow’s feet territory on the sides of her eyes.
She couldn’t have floofy (technical term) bangs with a more mature hairstyle. She couldn’t even have an updo and keep the crow’s feet coverage.
Strategically, it’s perfect.
Can’t say as much for the train.
anyone with fur should be an automatic fug
I think Goldie looks fab – I LUUURVE her too much to think otherwise. Kate’s train has GOT TO GO, but she does look super hot. I agree her pose in the second pic is too “Hollywood” and love that Goldie is looking at her all like “Be yourself. No posing. Look at what I made!” LOVE THEM BOTH!!! Makes me want to go home and watch Bird on a Wire or Overboard!!!
Goldie looks like my grandmother (South Beach Version) with the fur stole. And Kate, well, I just have no interest.
I agree with Elena. Super lame with the poor dead ermines or whatever, an unclassy manuever from someone old enough to know better you’d THINK.
Obviously, Goldie Hawn is a National Treasure, but I would love her to spend an few days with Helen Mirren. I know the big blonde mane is her signature, but she could do with something new and a bit more age appropriate. Or even if it’s not age appropriate, just NEW.
As for Kate, lose the train and EAT SOME CARBS and everything will be fine.
I’m sorry, but Kate’s dress is horrible even without the train. It’s just a tube of fabric and doesn’t do much for her (not that she needs her clothes to do much). The glistening and the lines make it look like a fake kid’s TV toy from the 80s where if you turn it one way it’s one picture, and another way it’s another picture. I want to see her move back and forth to see if the flowers look like they’re growing. Or maybe there’s another picture altogether, like a running horse, from another angle.
I can’t stop looking at Kate’s pose in the second picture. Does it look to ANYONE else like she’s a child in that pose? Because the lady has no chest at all (not a crime in itself, mind you), and she’s doing that belly-pooch thing that children do, where they have this tight round Buddha tummy and they almost seem to be presenting it to you, much the same way that Salma Hayek always seems to be presenting her breasts to the world (much appreciated, Salma).
It’s not that Kate looks fat. It’s not that she looks flat-chested. It’s that I’m pretty sure her silhouette is exactly the same as my 4-year-old niece’s. And that’s . . . strange for a woman of Kate’s age.
Without the childlike silhouette, I would kind of love the dress. Sans train.
Eek, should clarify: her silhouette as contained WITHIN the dress. My niece does not have legs like that. Hers are much shorter and chubbier and super-adorable. Kate’s are . . . pretty slammin’, actually. But they are not a part of the dress experience here. They’re on their own. Being awesome.
I’m not so annoyed with the frou frou of Goldie here. but the train is hurting my EYES.
Goldie looks fine, I’ve got no problem. If you cut the weird train off Kate’s dress I think you’d be okay. I wouldn’t wear it, because despite the shiney sparkily I find it dull. Black must be the it color (or shade) right now. Black itself doesn’t bother me but it doesn’t seem right that they’re all wearing it. Perhaps I subconsciously think they’re being too classy for these events. Is there such a thing as too classy?
Am I the only one who thinks Goldie has ventured into scary territory? Yes, she made her money with that scatter-brained blonde look, but I think it’s time she started toning it down a little. She’s become a caricature of herself.
Kate is just incredibly boring no matter what she wears. I like the dress, even the train, but she always looks like she’s on the edge of a tantrum.
The dress just looks cheap all around. The pattern (is that supposed to an animal print (gag)? or what?) is just plain tacky, sequins are rarely good on grownups, the train is ludicrious. She’s a lovely lady, but her dress looks like a streetwalker playing dress up.
Wheras Goldie looks like a little girl playing dress up.
So I guess they’re a matched set.
Huh.
I love Goldie Hawn, but I agree with the comment that she has ventured into scary territory. The gloves, the wrap, the full length black dress… it is a bit more “formal dinner with the Queen” than it is “my kid’s movie premier”. It would actually work for a different event, and on a different person. On Goldie, for reasons I cannot pinpoint, it just screams “cat lady”.
I don’t much care for Kate Hudson. I don’t normally consider her attractive so much as I do plain and forgettable. However, she looks pretty stunning in this dress. I can even forgive the train and the sequins. I normally hate trains and think that sequins are rarely tastefully utilized. While I have an overwhelming urge to snip the train off that otherwise not bad dress, she’s managed to pull this look off well. I’m not sure I’m crazy about the PTA meeting hair, but it’s better than the scraggly mess she’s usually got going on.
This is one time Goldie could’ve standed an updo.
White ermin with hair dragging all over it?!
I like her long dress.
Kate: I don’t like the train on her dress, or the shoes…
Also, the length is too short.
I don’t want to see thigh muscle, thanks!
3 inches longer, mebbe…
And make the shoes black closed toe patent stilettos!
That’s how I spell relief.
I LOVELOVELOVE Goldie, am OK with her “dress up” details, most likely affected for the reasons specified above. I think it’s fun, and the dress is perfectly appropriate for the Mother of the Actress in Premiere.
Kate, I don’t hate, but OK whatever. I think her dress is lovely, minus the ridiculous train.
And what is the deelio with the rampant trains??? Christina Ricci, Toni Collette, and now Kate. What’s up???
I’m waiting for that train to flare up behind Kate’s head like a fan of peacock feathers.
Those legs are to die for!!
I agree with the consensus – that the train has to go and Goldie is too formal.
But as a flat-chested woman myself: Taylor, I’m sure you didn’t mean to, but I found your post offensive. Kate IS flat-chested, that ain’t gonna change no matter what dress she’s wearing, so what exactly are you saying?
The comment about Goldie’s hair being a strategic choice to cover wrinkles is also below par – watch Private Benjamin and you’ll see that she had no wrinkles then…obviously!
Goldie is fabulous: a great actress and business woman, a wonderful woman, partner, mother and I’m sure friend, and she is surely Hollywood royalty.
Can’t be easy for Kate to live up to her mum’s example, but she’s getting there. Good for her!
Goldie: I just adore her; she can do no wrong. She CAN pull off the bracelet ON the glove. With the necklace! Did you notice the beautiful scalloped-fringe detail? The stole is a bit costumy, and dollars to donuts says it’s fake. Wouldn’t one of Paula Abdul’s tiaras be hilarous here?
Kate: Darling minx, doesn’t she favor her Mom? Taylor is correct (and eloquent) regarding her childish pose. Lose the train, and her outfit is charming, especially the shoes, even the self-tanner. Sparkly! Fun! And they both look like they’re having a good time.
I actually quite like the train, but I don’t really care for the rest of the dress – the neckline and the long sleeves aren’t doing it for me…
Goldie, bless her heart, has shown some kooky taste over the years and this is no exception. But I wouldn’t want her any other way, she’s fab!
I’m going to have to echo mush of the sentiment here, and say that while Goldie is looking a tad too formal, Kate would be stunning if she’d just lose the train.
But in response to Taylor’s comment about her posture: I was honestly quite pleased by her silhouette. Unless I stand perfectly straight, my stomach sticks out slightly as well, and I usually hate it, so it was nice to see that someone who is regarded as beautiful in the way that she is has the same thing happen to her.
I think both look good, but both could look better. Kate should get rid od the train a Goldies dress would look nicer, if it would be kneelenght.
I can’t even concentrate on Kate and her train! I’m still mesmerized by Daphne Guiness and her shoes.
I don’t think that’s a train so much as a tail.
I was thinking the same thing as Taylor about the pose in pic no. 2. Not criticizing her mammaries as such, just that the belly-pooching pose, in concert with said endowment, looks a little pre-K.
Are y’all crazy? Kate is gorgeously styled and made up, the fit of the dress feminizes her somewhat boyish body, and the train elevates the dress from ho hum to noteworthy. Is it trailing-toilet-paper-like? Perhaps, but she makes that TP look good!
The Goldie-Kate dialogue was hilarious. Perfect with the photos.
Kate looks hot. The dress is fantastic on her. I love that dress, and I want it, without the little, silly peacock tail. I understand that the train is an effort to take the dress beyond best-disco-dress-ever. But look at Kate here. She would rock the dress if it just stopped at sheer, frank awesomeness, and did not flirt with Thai cocktail hostess.
Goldie looks wonderful. She should therefore avoid heaping albino squirrel carcasses over her breasts (frumpy) and pull off the long black gloves (They make me nervous. I like to see everybody’s hands out there. I don’t like imagining how it feels to not be able to feel with your hands all night long. OK, maybe that’s just me. I am of the strong opinion that you’ve got to be able to use all the senses you’ve got available). Goldie will still look wonderful even when we can see that her arms and hands show a little sagging and some age spots, if that informed any decision-making here. People age (Kate too shall age), and there’s certainly no shame in aging so well.
Rhianna is wearing a version of that dress in the Dec issue of Glamour, sans visible train. It actually looks much better on Kate.
I direct my comments to Kate, as Goldie has at least two major pluses on her side: (1) longevity and (2) consistency. I don’t care what she wears anymore. She has proven again and again that she knows how to use her powers.
So, Kate: a compound comment, regarding the last two outfits I’ve seen you wearing on gofugyourself (first the jumpsuit and this, this … minidress-train-thing plus B&W shoes):
(cue spell)
I bind you, Kate, from wearing prints. Prints on other people, and prints on yourself. I bind you, Kate, from wearing prints. Prints on other people, and prints on yourself. I bind you, Kate, from wearing prints. Prints on other people, and prints on yourself.
(spell completed)
I believe that takes care of it. Someday you’ll thank me for this.
Golly, those shoes are matchy-matchy. Yawn.
If the hem of the dress was cut on the diagonal back towards the train it wouldn’t like like the train was an afterthought. And for cryin’ out loud Kate suck your belly in. All that dancing for what? Her hair is devoon.
Her dress reminds me of my histology class. When I look at her, all I see is simple squamous epithelium.
Goldie’s outfit is not my favorite, but I think that she’s aging gracefully and I like her hair. I don’t see why everyone thinks that once a woman hits 50 she needs to coif her hair like Blanche Devereaux. The woman is appropriately covered and still having fun. Isn’t that the very best way to grow old gracefully? Yes. Yes it is.
Probably 20 years ago I was at an afternoon screening and was introduced to Goldie and sure enough she had dirty hair and was wearing some ratty looking wife-beater (before it was known as a wife-beater) though sweet enough (as you might imagine) she looked like hell. A few months ago I was at Westside Tavern and Goldie and Kurt and Claire Pollock walked in and Goldie looked great, honestly she looked fantastic. So, yeah I agree the fur thing is pretty bad, but as for the rest–well Goldie is washing her hair these days and is looking better in person than in this photo. Other than 101 Cigarettes or whatever it was called, I’ve never gotten Kate Hudson. For the number of movies and magazine covers she gets she must have the best agent and publicist in town. At least she looks like herself in the dueling Harper’s Bazaar covers this month, unlike other covers I remember. In fact, they’re surprizingly good covers, not so much because of Hudson, but the colors, which are great. But I digress: Goldie is actually looking better these days, though you wouldn’t know it from the photo. And forgetting the train, Kate looks smashing.
At first I thought the dress was just neutral. Didn’t love it or hate it. BUT THEN I saw the train. This has to be one of the ugliest dresses of 2009. As for Goldie, she looks wonderful next to Kate’s craziness. If she could just lose the gloves

Goldie and Kate have always been incredibly overrated in my opinion. I honestly fail to see what either have substantially contributed to the industry to deserve all the press and buzz they receive.
Hello could I quote some of the material here in this blog if I reference you with a link back to your site?
Maybe the most interesting paper I read all day..
