Fugs and Fabs: Jessica Alba

fug-or-fab

It’s amazing how one person can look so fantastic one moment and so bizarro the next. BEHOLD.

re: #3–and also How to Look Good In It. Because much though I love it, I think it would not flatter me.

I dunno. Even when she flargs, she looks fabulous. I think she looks great in all photos (although I prefer her smile to her angry listening face).

She’s quite beautiful which I assume is the reason she gets invited to film festivals. She should try acting. Okay, that was mean but I remain baffled as to how this girl is still famous.

On the other hand, the white dress is fabulous.

I agree. She’s pretty but there are a lot of pretty girls out there. I don’t get it either.

Flarging outfit is cute, although it kinda looks like she slipped a pair of jeans on over a bathing suit … so, not panel-ready but cute anyway.

The white dress is FANTASTIC, but I actually like the walking around Rome look- something about the color makes me happy. . Maybe I’m just happy that she hasn’t dyed her hair blonde in a while- she looks so much better with dark hair.

Can I just have her eyebrows? Pretty please.

She has that “I’mma cut you” face on a lot, but she is indeed very beautiful. I love both outfits, well played :)

I can’t stand this woman. I’m not sure why she arouses in me such ire and loathing, but I just find her to be irritating on every possible level. Her only crime seems to be existing. It’s irrational, but there it is. This one and that other one, Jessica Biel, could evaporate tomorrow and it would be all the same to me. No offense meant to Alba (and/or Biel) lovers, but I desipse them both.

I hear you, and I agree with you. Although, I don’t have a hatred for Biel as much as a general dislike. But as for Alba, yes, she irritates me. I think it’s because she can’t act and she always comes off as such a witch/horrible person in interviews. That may be my skew on it, but there it is.

That’s it–the total lack of talent, coupled with the hyper-inflated ego. I’m glad it’s not just me! Between my reaction to this and my reaction to the Madonna post that followed, I was starting to think I was turning into a curmudgeon. I was going to start looking for my cane and yell at those kids to get off my lawn.

It’s not just you. My tv happened to be on Piers Morgan when she was on. He was asking her questions and…zzz. Her responses were robotic, inarticulate, and boring. I lasted one minute. Looks can only get you so far in Hollywood, and she is living proof. At least Biel…never mind, I couldn’t come up with anything. I don’t like her either.

I can’t help but think of Phoebe Cates in the first photo.

I would have loved the white toga dress if it was floor length. I actually stopped scrolling right before her legs appeared and imagined the rest of the fabric. The dress was just lovely then.

Alba is still famous because she is very pretty and she has realized (quite cannily, actually) that she can more effectively monetize her “lifestyle” (especially her ability to look very pretty post-baby) than her acting ability. She needs to be photographed regularly–dressed in cute outfits, with her cute kids–in order to promote her “brand”. This film festival is just an extension of that, as it’s focused on young viewers. She’s trying to position herself as the “classy” Tori Spelling. Or the fame-whore version of Jennifer Garner. And that, I think, is what makes her so irritating. She’s the mommy-and-me version of Kim Kardashian, with a healthy dose of pretension.

Wow! I think you hit the nail on the head.

    • Brook

That was a great explanation. I feel actual lessening of my ire now that I understand my hatred for her.

    • Rubee

Your explanation is very lucid! I do give it to her: She looks impeccable most time, even if I seriously yank her recent blazer-craze.
But I still wonder how exactly can she “monetize” her prettiness and family life?
I find her common pretty as opposed to uniquely pretty, even beautiful semi has-been stars who’ve found more lucrative jobs as product endorsement and media icons like… let’s say Diane Kruger or Live Tyler. Her husband is not at all a star-high director. And Gosh forgives me, at least her older daughter is just a plain looking brat.
Who pays for a magazine just because she’s in the cover or headlines? Who buys a beauty product because she’s in the ad? Not me, for sure.

(“His Master’s Voice” head tip. ) Huh? Nothing fantastic here.

Her hair is simply yanked back. The white dress looks like something they’d put over you at the spa to walk from the massage table to the pedicure chair. The strapless swim suit under jeans is just another summer top and pair of jeans. The surly expression just makes me think she dropped her lunch tray, or that her shoes hurt her feet, or she’s calculating Pi to the fourth decimal.

Wow -there’s actually something that Jessica Alba and I have in common. My listening face is often mistaken for a “bitch, I’m going to cut you” face as well. In fairness, I probably am thinking that much of the time when listening to other people.

Oh… and I can’t act, either. So, two things in common.

I have a “I’m ready to kick someone” face when I’m thinking, too. There are dozens of us like this…dozens!

But seriously, though, random strangers have approached me in stores to ask “what’s wrong?” So, I feel for Ms. Alba in the first picture.

“I JUST LISTEN WITH ANGER” — I love this is so much. Alba doesn’t bother me as a person, really, because I assume that she also knows that she’s not a great thespian. So she just gads about town, looking pretty good these days, I must say. HOWEVER, I do not like either of these outfits. Not even the white one, which kinda looks too big and ill-fitting and sort of could be from Old Navy. No offense to any Old Navy shoppers. I just mean it’s kind of generic. Plus, just not a fan of this style of quasi-wraparound dress, period.

I propose a panel titled This Dress and Where to Buy It and How to Afford It and Also the Shoes.

I like both the casual outfit and the dressy one!

P.S. I had no idea what “FLARG” meant and had to look it up in the Urban dictionary. My favorite entry in that dictionary was this:

FLARG: Celebration held by the aliens of Yugopotamia from the cartoon the Fairly Oddparents. this celebration is held over the course of 5 days and each letter of flarg stands for what’s supposed to be done every day.

Each letter of flarg stands for:

    F: Fart
    L: Lies
    A: Amnesia
    R: Ranksgiving
    G: Good-bye

P.P.S. I am nearly 50 years old and love Fairly Oddparents!

The panel outfit is cute, and I don’t even like boob tubes! I think the cream dress is lovely, but maybe a tad big for her?

I think she looks lovely flarging and not flarging.

The white dress is indeed very pretty but she looks like she’s about to tip backwards off her shoes.

I don’t know why, but I get Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner mixed up all the time. Doesn’t JA look like she should/could be married to Ben Affleck?

She is really beautiful!! These outfits are just okay for me

Um…To the Alba haters, she was really amazing in Dark Angel! Well, the first season, mostly, but still. It’s like she peaked really early and after that got kinda meh, but Dark Angel was a brilliant show if you like sci-fi AND it was done by James Cameron…

Wow, has this site turned into a gossip site now or are we still here to talk about what these people are wearing? I love the white dress, it looks chic and comfortable at the same time. Something Miss Kruger would wear.

Also note the harem pants on the gal behind Alba (and a little to the left) in the second photo. They’re coming. I’m afraid.
