We had a great time at New York Fashion Week this week! If you missed any of our coverage, catch up here. And also enjoy:
– Ever just want to move into a cave? These are some good options.
– English archeologists may have found the bones of Richard III. In a parking lot! (BBC)
– You are going to love this article: The Cost of Being a Kid in A Classic Adventure Novel. It looks at several books, but kicks off with The Mixed Up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler AND includes Harriet The Spy, two of my very favorite books ever. It’s just such a good article. (The Awl)
– Kim France examines how to get photographed during Fashion Week, and she is dead on. It is amazing to watch some of the women at Fashion Week who lurk around, obviously trying to land on someone’s style blog. (Girls of a Certain Age)
– I’d be more into Google glasses if they weren’t so HIDEOUS. Call me when Google makes futuristic hologram texting glasses — or whatever they are — that look like Chanel. (Time)
– This profile of Mindy Kaling is awesome. It also made me cry a little bit. (New York via Vulture)
– I tip my hat to the ladies at Fashionista who spent a LOT of time in the bathroom at Fashion Week and reported on what they overheard. I could easily have been one of those people complaining about how GROSS THEY ARE. (Fashionista)
– You’re going to love this piece about the history of the “@” symbol. (Smithsonian)
– We need to arrange a carefrontation for Amanda Bynes. I am not even kidding. She needs someone to help her out. (Celebitchy)
– Betsey Johnson had models carry live pigs down the runway and I am worried that those little pigs might have felt sort of stressed. So is Refinery29. (Refinery29)
– Dr Phil is interesting Dina Lohan, which makes me think the world might be about to EXPLODE. (Lainey)
– These Vampire Diaries promo shots make me happy. COME BACK NOW, VAMPIRE DIARIES. (Socialite Life)
– Wonder what happened to Michael K Williams? New York found out. (New York Vulture)
– J Crew’s Gayle Spannaus is kind of my fashion icon. I know that word is overused. But seriously, the J Crew catalog is the only one I still read like a magazine. I also give them all my money. Like…all of it. (The Cut)

The Awl article is not opening properly.
I had the same problem! I was really excited or that one. I love me some classic kids adventure stories.
Here’s the link to the Awl story:

Anything that includes talk of a)The Boxcar Children and b)Tiger Eyes is a guaranteed win for my inner 10-year-old.
There was a preview of the Mindy Project pilot, and I really liked it. Mindy really does kill it! Everyone should watch it!
Have I ever told you how much I LOVE fugs and pieces? I love it every single week. Thank you fug queens.
Me, too! F&P is definitely a highlight of my web week. Have a fabulous weekend, everyone!
I LOVE The Mixed Up Files! Love. Ever read The Westing Game? I read it around the same time and it might be my favorite YA book from childhood.
Also – the Richard III article is great! My husband and I were just discussion his missing body. I have a friend who is a devoted advocate of the Tudor propganda angle for some (most) of Richard’s bad luck to it was fun to be able to link her to this article for info and push her buttons at the same time. I love your Friday link posts – so many cool things!
I still re-read Mixed-Up Files and The Westing Game every few years. And I’ve been watching the Richard III story avidly.
If you told me I could only read either the pair of Twilight & Fifty Shades of Grey or Mixed up Files & Westing Game for the next six months, it wouldn’t even BE a competition. I’m in my early 40′s and still have to read The Westing Game at least once a year.
The Westing Game is one of my favorite books ever! We read it in 5th grade and I’ve loved it ever since. We even made a movie of it for a school project – so fun. I haven’t read it in so long – I think I need to download it on my kindle immediately!
Dr.Phil is interesting? That can’t be right. Dr.Phil is never interesting
As if little pigs don’t have enough stress, what with the big bad wolves and all.
Seriously though, leave small animals out of fashion week.
Jessica, next time you are vacationing in lovely Asheville, NC (perhaps the Vanderbilts will invite you to stay with them in their summer home), go to the J Crew Clearance Center. It’s sample sizes and all kinds of things – VERY cheap. I got a gorgeous wool coat there, that I later saw in In Style, for $50. Cashmere sweaters are around $30. I just saw the same suede pumps there that Michelle Obama wore at the DNC to give her speech, but they weren’t my size. You can still spend all your $$, but you’ll get way more stuff.
WHAAT I just drove through Asheville a few weeks ago! I had no idea!! Next time, there will be a stop. Dang.
It’s just off Brevard Road in Arden (south Asheville). If you google “J Crew Clearance Center Asheville” you can get the address and hours. It can be a little hard to find (it’s in a weird industrial/warehouse district) so it’s worth giving them a call – they have directions on their recording.
Thanks for your interesting post. I have bookmarked your site & surely be back again.
Loved the Mindy Kaling article. She is honestly one of my favorites!
Me too! I thought the pilot was adorable, and i totally related to mindy and her love of cheesy rom coms (and hoping her life would be like that). The part about her mom made me cry… i could relate to their closeness. I wish her a ton of success…now i have to borrow her book!
The Amanda Bynes situation makes me sad. She seemed to have her sh*t together, and then she didn’t. Perhaps Colin Firth can sweep in and set her straight.
Richard III’s bones are not IN the parking lot; they’re UNDER the parking lot.
