Is Zooey actually a “quirky girl” or is she just drawn that way? If it’s her real personality, then me finding it annoying is my problem. If it’s marketing, she should cut it out. And hold her head up straight.
I have the same question. Either way I think she should hold her head up straight. She’s not 8 years old.
I have no idea if this is the reason she does it, but if your eyes have two different focal points, you will unconsciously tilt your head to equalize the focal points. It is corrected with a prism in the lens of your glasses, but it cannot be corrected if you are wearing contacts. I had it for years before I was diagnosed and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why my head was always titled in pictures. I would actually try to consciously correct it when I knew was having a picture taken and then it would look wonky the other way. Now I’m tilt-free as long as I wear my glasses. I’m not saying it is the same for her, but there may be a “non-precious” reason her head is tilted.
I actually ALWAYS tilt my head in pictures. It’s just a weird habit for me, as far as I know (I don’t need glasses, other than for reading.). Maybe I should talk to my eye doctor though.
Look at the full photo of her feet – her shoes are way too big for her. Maybe she’s all atilt because she’s trying not to fall out of her shoes.
OK, but then how do you explain her feet? I love her and yet always feel like she is just trying too hard to be “adorkable.”
That certainly is one possible explanation. If that is the case, she’s got an awfully bad dose of it. It seems quite exaggerated and tilting her shoulders as she is makes it even more prominent.
She used to be blonde, and normal, and less quirky. I think it’s an affectation. However, I find New Girl hilarious.
Except that she has naturally dark brown hair and in this picture from high school she’s sporting some unusually heavy eyeliner and a fake beauty mark (possibly star-shaped). She’s been “quirky” for at least the 10 years she’s been in public. I’m pretty sure quirky is her default state. If not, that’s a hell of a long time to stick with an artificial brand.
She’s not ABnormal – she doesn’t have two heads or something.
I wonder if the organizers of events like this let the people who will be in front of those “step and repeats” know what the backdrops will look like in advance. I would be seriously miffed if showed up to something like that and found that I was blending in chameleon-like or was clashing horribly. (I feel sorry for the starlet — whom I’ve never, ever heard of — who is wearing the black and white striped dress.)

Contrarian that I am, I think ZD looks better in tights than bare legged (a look that is unflattering on at least half the dress-wearing population, so no disrespect to ZD intended). She could look into sheer black hose for evening but, hey, it’s her signature look.
Lots of nice dresses — applause for the ladies of FOX. Few quibbles (of course)…Mindy’s is too short, otherwise great color. And the proportion problem on Deschanel #2 I think emanates from the high collar, otherwise that, too, is a great dress (I even like her shoes).
Oh, and total “blech” to Lea Michelle’s outfit.
Lea Michele looks like she wandered there after auditioning for the role of young Barbara Bush on the CW’s ‘Teens in the White House’… which, actually, sounds like it would be totally awesome and I would definitely watch it.
Dang. This post makes me want to go out and buy some super cute dresses. It also makes me want to go to where ever this was held and steal that backdrop to turn it into wall paper in my bedroom. (Without the FOX logos OF COURSE.)

No idea who Michaela Conlin is, but her dress is gorge.
Deschanel 2: yes, I think the problem lies with the shoes. They make her feet look like weird, tiny Barbie feet.

I want, crave, lust for Zooey Deschanel’s dress! I would even promise to wear it with tights if that’s what it would take to have it hanging in my closet.
Zooey looks bored but I love her dress and Emily looks like she’s lost weight and the dress is cut wonky. Other than that, she looks fab.
Love the color on Lea, not so much the outfit itself.
Mindy looks about five sizes larger than she is in that dress, yuck! Someone above suggested it was too short and I do think that’s part of the problem, but maybe it’s also too small? I don’t know, but I I don’t like it (aside from the color).
Yes, Cat, I had the same reaction to Mindy’s dress, thinking it was too tight in the bust and waist and a few inches too short. Going up a size or two might have fixed all those problems, because it’s otherwise a cute dress and good color on her. In fact, they’re all really cute dresses! (Except you, Lea and Naya.)
It looks like a slightly shiny fabric, perhaps a sateen? Sateen widens everyone.
I can’t help but feel that Tamera Taylor’s bracelet actually looks like a cigarette. Something with the lightening, I suppose. I had to look really close on the full size picture to see it was an actual, normal bracelet.
I think E Deschanel’s dress is too long, is that a fishtail at the bottom? Anyway, make the skirt straight and shorter (not neccesarily mini) and that should sort the proportions out. As noted shoes could do with some work too.

Not a fan of Lea Michelle’s get up. Looks kind of cheap even though I’m sure it’s really not. I don’t love the cut of that dress on Mindy Kaling even though I know she’s fond of it. I can’t tell what the problem is. For some reason the waist looks like it’s in the wrong place.

Re: Emily Deschanel. The dress is oddly cut in the bust. I suspect it was too big and was just pulled forward and cinched somehow. Or it's supposed to be "edgy". In any case it's tighter in the bust than than elsewhere. Look at the tugging under the armpits. Bad tailoring.
Ladies of the world (Jenna & Mindy among others), a high waist on a dress combined with a very short puffy skirt flatter no woman.
Emily’s dress seems to hit at the widest part of her calves, which is never a good look on anyone.
Mindy’s is definitely too short but could’ve been really cute with a few more inches.
Everyone else looks pretty good, but I agree the nude pumps weren’t necessary here!
I think Mindy’s would be nicer a bit longer or maybe without so much flare at the hips. Structured would have been best, IMHO.
Nicki’s wig looks so wig like. It doesn’t matter so much when it is a bright pink wig, but when it is colored to look more natural, the fit needs to be natural too!
I really love that Vanessa girl’s dress. I don’t know who she is, but I love that dress. I am so sad that Lea Michelle’s outfit was such a disaster in the fit department. The color is SO fun and it looks great on her! There is no excuse for a skirt with an elastic waistband that rids up to her girls, though.
Something about Zooey rubs me the wrong way.. Too much cutesy/quirkiniess for me.
Being a Bones fan and never having watched Friday Night Lights, I was SO confused by the Tami Taylor comments for awhile. I still think that’s who you’re talking about sometimes!
Very few people look good in acid yellow, Lea included.
Zooey’s dress is lovely, but the bow belt looks a bit tacky, and I think a different hair style would have been better. I’m not liking the cut of the top of Mindy’s dress AT ALL.

Zooey’s dress is cute, yes, but that glassy-eyed, listless-handed pose makes her look like a marionette that’s been hung up between shows.
When I first saw Dakota Johnson’s dress, I could have sworn it was a bowling-pin print. I looked again, and I just saw a pattern. Then I saw bowling pins. I think I’ve been working too much today and am starting to hallucinate?

Absolutely with you on the nude shooz. Essential for those of us that can’t afford a pair for each outfit (most of us) but, don’t these women understand that we live vicariously through their footwear? They have a professional obligation.
Zooey, Emily, Dakota, Michaela, Tamera & Vanessa all look super cute! But, Dakota Johnson’s “chair” dress is especially ADORABLE and I LOVE IT! WANT!
I think Dakota Johnson is always trying to play up a resemblance to her mother, but really, all I can see is Sonny Crockett in her face. I think it’s her eyes – exactly like her dad’s. Anyway, she looks beyond adorable here – even more so than the Queen of Adorableness, Z. Deschanel (whose black tights make sense for a change).
Oh, and you’re right – E. Deschanel’s outfit looks off due to those heinous shoes. Michelle and Kaling just look terrible because their outfits are too short and/or tight.
And I guess there is no Michaela, only Zuul. Hee. She looks lovely otherwise.
I saw a picture of 1970s Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith in Rolling Stone a few issues back, and he used to look EXACTLY like Dakota.
My Godgirl is six next week. If I bought her Lea Michelle’s outfit, she would be delighted. BECAUSE SHE IS SIX.
Zooey Deschanels’ feet always look sort of Minnie-Mouse-huge when she wears that black tights/black platforms combo. I’m not sure why.
I love Mindy Kaling, but that little-girl-dress with the high waistline and above-the-knee hem kind of shortens her figure. Same goes for Jenna Ushkowitz.

Emily’s dress needed to be cut to her knee (my mother always taught me that you hem your dress at the slimmest part of your leg) and she needed shoes that don’t wrap around your ankle… made her look awfully stumpy.

I unabashedly LOVE Zooey D’s dress (and her for that matter). I need that dress in my life immediately.
Lea Michele’s dress is just heinous around the waist. She’s a tiny girl, and the elastic-looking waist makes her looks so wide. I can sympathize, because I always want to wear skirts like that, but they also make me look so wide in the waist. The color is fantastic though.

What ever happened to proportion? Everything in this slideshow is wonkus. To short, too poofy, too tight, too long, too clunky, too delicate…
Colors good. Patterns mostly good. Pretty girls, spot on. But the rest…
YES! Proportions are all off. There are so many close-es, or goods-with-small-adjustments. Everyone seemed to be going for girly rather than womanly. (Except for Naya, who headed straight for Cougary.)
ZD’s dress looks great, and I’m envious of her ability to wear such a contrast-y print without getting lost. Shoes do look clumpy, though.
Emily Deschanel, you are chopping yourself up, and need better flow.

Lea Michele’s skirt is so unflattering. Very few (I’m not sure who) can pull off those puffy elastic waist skirts. Lets just get rid of ‘em!

and thanks to Zooey and her penchant for wearing them with what I would call a spring or summer dress…( and the addition of a cardi) I am able to wear my “spring/summer” dresses well into the fall.
Fug girls!! You’ve admitted to your Duchess Kate bias. You need to do the same thing when it comes to Mindy Kaling. That dress is too short, too satiny-y and extremely unflattering to her midsection.

No, Emily’s outfit proportions are not wonkus due to the shoes. The proportions appear wonkus because of the largeness/fanciness of the cap sleeves combined with the unusual shape of the décolletage. You’re welcome. …It’s still legitimately pretty, and maybe the optical illusion is intentional, and meant to create interest?
Agreed. The top is off. I feel like I shouldn’t be able to see her armpit. The shoes don’t help though.
