Fugsley Greene/Fug Or Fab

fug-or-fab

Hmm.

Lord knows I love a crimson shoe. But I keep looking at this outfit and wondering if Ashley has just stepped off the set of a movie in which she plays the straight-laced student who has to take dance to pass P.E. and save her from a descent into drugs, and the power of ballroom gets her to loosen her braid and ratchet down her necklines — until her parents catch her doing the lambada with some random Jonas from the lacrosse team and she has to start indulging her forbidden passion in secret. Maybe they can even call it Wango Tango, just so that music fest’s godawful name will finally have half a reason to exist. Although I’d also accept Fantastic Mr. Foxtrot, Rumba & Coke, and, just for fun, Dirty Prancing.
I wasn’t wild about this ensemble of Ashley’s, either:

There’s a kernel of something cute here, but not enough to tamp down my suspicion that the studio execs flew her there by private jet, and then made her serve the warm nuts and scotch-and-sodas.

That would look great on a 47-year-old administrative assistant sitting in an office (for example, me). NOT a red carpet look for a young woman.

  2. courtney

Ick. No and no. I don’t think I’ve ever seen La Greene wearing something I like.

Re: the first one, why does anyone ever wear dresses that hit them mid-shin? That length looks good on NO ONE.

  3. marcia

Something about that first dress reminds me of Kirstie Alley, ca. 1998, so it’s a NO (even though I like Kirstie Alley, not in that getup). It’s adding unnecessary pounds to what is, demonstrably, in the second picture, a bangin’ body.

Second dress? lose the neck scarf and then go over to Jessica Simpson’s house and tell her where you got the rest of the outfit so she can dress the same way (make sure you give her fit advice, bc she’s going to try to buy that same size and we’ll be back where we started). THEN, swing by my house to drop off those shoes and that skirt (I’ll go with a different top for myself, but thanks) and write down your leg workout for me, even though I probably won’t do it.

That’s the other problem with the first dress–she’s got great legs and you can’t even see them.

  4. melissa

Really, only French women can tie a little scarf around their neck and look good. On everyone else, it just looks stupid.

  5. Halley

I love the first outfit, she can send those shoes on over to my house. I’ll make sure they have a good home!

  6. Sandra

Black dress is clearly not really a dress, but the bed curtains from a bordello catering to vampires. Just no. Red shoes are great. The second one looks like a costume for an interpretive dance about Vanilla Wafers. So, also no.

  7. Laura

I was on board with the first one until I got to the flounce. I even like the shoes. The second is nice. Not particularly special, but nice.

  8. LL

Ugh. Those two looks are too old for her. Sharon Stone doesn’t even wear things that stodgy and she’s like 30 yrs older than La Greene. Everything i’ve seen this chica in since this Twilight thing started is a) not impressive and b) too old/not flattering. The first dress, and a dress she wore that looked like a grey bedsheet, have really made me wonder if she knows how to dress her own body. Judging by the photos in the GFY archives (i’m talking about the purple number and the white bedsheet) it’s clear she wants to wear things that fit her and other times giver her ensemble no thought whatsoever. shame. lame.

  9. Challis

I think the second outfit looks nice, Ivanka wears stuff like this all the time. I gte that it may not be THE red carpet style, but she looks nice, so I an supportive.

  10. kary

Would someone who is up on the current polish trends please address her nails? Grey polish? Really?

As for her outfits: 1 is a NO. It’s foofy. Start over. 2 is sexy secretary wear, which has a place, I guess, but I would argue that place is not on the red carpet.

  11. Becca

Although I love the shoes in the first one and could possibly get on board with aspects of the dress, the whole getup screams: “winter holiday party!” when reality is screaming “summer in Los Angeles!” Totally wrong for right now even if you like it.

  12. funderpants

Outfits = bad, burgandy shoes = good, grey polish = fine, matching fingers and toes = FIFTH GRADE DORKASAURUS.

  13. squeeziee

Kary – grey nail polish is EVERYWHERE right now. And I don’t know why. At first I always think the girl in question has stuck blu-tack to her nails (which I used to do when I was a wee child and wanted grown up nails, because that was how I rolled), and then I realise it’s grey and it’s just so blah.

Also, I cannot judge Ashley Green for either of these outfits because I am so mesmerised by those shoes in the first one that I am giving her a free pass.

  14. funderpants

…and those ratty rainbow’o'hue extensions = yuck in technicolor.

  15. Richard

Miss Greene was on Chelsea Handler the other night, and looked like a yawn. Sweet baby Renesmee, though, she is gorgeous. Maybe too gorgeous. I literally think she is too pretty, and won’t last. I mean, look at Cindy Crawford. She’s gorgeous, and now I sit on the sectional sofa she designed every night to watch tivo’d episodes of Chelsea Handler.

See what I did there? Full circle.

I actually think she is just going for the wrong look, and her stylist may have bad taste in dresses.

Also, may I please have a headset and another pillow? Thank you.

  16. Janet

Richard-I TOTALLY Agree. She is so gorgeous but she doesn’t dress well. Maybe she is trying to take away from her beauty so people won’t typecast her.

  17. gb

does the yellow outfit remind anyone of the “Grace Farrell” character in the Annie movie. you know the one that Daddy Warbucks is in love with? It totally reminds me of the outfit she wears in the “Let’s Go to the Movies” number…..but not as nice! wayyyy too old for her!

  18. Ares

Re: Outfit 1: How does it make each boob look like it’s the same size as her head, and is it intentional?

Re: Outfit 2: I applaud her ability to wear a sheer blouse and not have it scream “look at my bra (or lack thereof)!”

  19. Lina

Wow, she is seriously hot. I’ve never seen her in anything, but I kind of love that she’s dressing completely differently from every other starlet out there. And also avoiding the gratuitous crack. I mean, I love cracky outfits as much as anyone, but to me this says that Girl wants to be cast in some meatier roles and thinks she has the chops to do it. In which case, more power to her for using the ridiculous amount of press she’s getting for what I understand is a minor supporting role (and I might be wrong on that, Twilight is so not my thing), and using it to her own advantage.

Regardless, yay for her not being completely identical to all the other twenty-something actresses on the block.

    I…just…*exasperated sigh*.

  21. Anonymous

I actually really like the second one… though I prefer a higher neckline. I’d wear it, and no I’m not 30; I’m 19.

  22. vandalfan

The first suffers from an excess of fabric, and the thin halter strings seem unreliable and make me nervous. The shoes almost redeem it, however. The bland second look needs to take a lesson from Katherine Chancellor’s extremely bright Snuggy a few pages up. Imagine that skirt in orange or yellow.

  23. Katie Starfish

I don’t think I can decide on the second outfit because all I can see is her ears sticking out. How have I never noticed that before?

  24. Lizzie

Ashley is a really pretty girl and obviously very fit, so there is no reason why she can’t come up with better outfits. She either needs to hire a stylist or find a new one.

  25. tigerstripes

In this context, all I can think is ‘What Would Alice Cullen Wear?’ and I know it’s neither of these. Yeah, it’s lame, but that’s all I got.

Except, would it kill her to make a different kind of face? Maybe she’s afraid if she truly smiles one of the cameras will catch her in some sort of weird, mid-expression, poo-poo face. Happens to me all the time.

Okay, now that’s *really* all I got.

  26. FireFly

LOL on the Wango Tango reference. Dude, that’s the name of a old Ted Nugent song! A guy I dated in High School (a FEW years ago) was a big Nugent fan.
Anyhoo, I want her shoes in the first pic, the dress is so Gunny Sax, pass.
Second pic, pass again, I believe we did miss the seatbelt demonstration prior to putting those hands on her hips.

  27. Rachel

I agree with that first comment by Maria, but I think she forgot to add that the 42 year old adminstrative assistant time traveled here from 1979.

  28. sharjem

The hair in the second pic is just terrible–much worse than the outfit. It’s a sort of Legolas from Lord of the Rings ‘do, no? *shudder*

  29. Bambi Anne Dear

I like the second one, but in an office. The first is mostly meh. Overdone.

  30. Etiana

None of her red carpet outfits worked, they seemed all over the map. First – dressed in blue satin sheet, second – looking frumpy in black and third – posing for an airline training video.

  31. Muscle Max XL

She is looking gorgeous!! I would love to meet her at least once in my life.

  32. Sajorina

I love the first outfit… and so does my Mom (who came up to me as I was watching the picture and said “Beautiful!”). I would wear that dress and I want those shoes!!!

The second outfit is just Blah!

I have read about this case and it was sensational. Although it was very clear that Al Hassan al-Majid and the rest of his group did it, they barely manage to counter it. Their defense was good but the evidence was overwhelming.

    Just keep making good stuff.
