Angelina. By a million miles. Aside from the end table factor, that hot pink is SO not Natalie’s colour; that is a textbook example of the dress wearing her to invisibility.

I didn’t think the color was bad on Natalie Portman – I did think it was just sort of a generic dress in a vivid color.
Angelina Jolie’s dress was structured and tailored and looked marvelous on her. In almost any color combo it would probably look well. I do wish it had been something other than white – I felt like she put it on because it was a neutral and said “okay, this is awesome, I’ll tolerate the pop of red”. But it is nice to see her wear something tailored from time to time, since I think her favored caftans simply look sloppy.
Neither takes it. I was underwhelmed with the color of Angie’s dress and the fit of Nat’s. Now, if Angie’s dress was the color of Nat’s and someone more exciting wore it, I’d be all over it.
How is this even a contest? Angelina’s dress is perfection, and as much as I love Natalie, hers is just kind of blah.
Also, when I saw Angelina’s dress for the first time I immediately thought “she’s not in black. The Fug girls will be thrilled.”

Why is Natalie wearing a bustle? The shape of her dress is terrible. This contest has nothing to do with any red flaps on bodices, it’s just about the proportions of the dress.

Maybe Natalie still has some baby weight she is trying to masquerade with the ill-fitting gown? That’s my only explanation for the poor fit. And as much as I loathe Angelina, she looks freakin amazing in this dress, so I voted for her.

As cute & adorable as Natalie Portman looks in that fabulous dress with a color combination that I adore (pink + red), which she also wore last year, she has nothing on Angelina! Angie shines with Old Hollywood glamour and exudes confidence, sexiness and bad-assness, while looking lovely, elegant and proper in a way that’s unmatched! I ADORE & COVET HER DRESS! The clutch & jewels are perfect and the hair & makeup are flawless! Both FAB, but Angelina did it better!

Really! I think this is the meatiest we’ve seen Angelina in quite some time – I was even wondering if she’s planning to have a baby given that she’s usually rail thin at all times.
I think “rail thin” might be her natural state with all those children. Both my sister and I dropped 30 pounds off of our average sized frames and became quite bony when our kids were small and we were toting them around and then running around after them.
We’ve both fattened up nicely since then.

I don’t think Ange does too much running around after her kids – that’s what nannies are for! Her arms are horribly thin in this picture with bones and veins sticking out. I don’t think her skinniness is anything to do with having kids. She, and so many other celebs, is dead keen on staying as thin as she possibly can and is no doubt addicted to being thin. There’s another recent pic of her on here somewhere and her hair is all around her face but if you look past the hair, she has a total lollipop head going on. And as for looking healthy, make up can do wonders!
Have to say this dress is better than all those awful dresses with shoulder pads or other structure in the shoulders she normally wears, they’re just dreadful.
I too am shocked people loved Angie’s dress! Both she and the dress look severe, and that red flap should go back to the 80′s. The cut of the top almost makes her head look like it’s on her torso backward. How bad does a dress have to be to make those famous boobs resemble shoulder blades?
In these photos she doesn’t look as thin as she did during the broadcast. When she was on stage presenting, the way she was standing made her arms look like they diminished to nothing.
Oh god – if you’ve seen…. I want to say Prada, but I think I’m wrong – it may be Gucci – but anyway, someone’s spring collection of shoes – it’s all about flaps and rocket ships and crazy protrusions reminiscent of the FTD Florist’s logo (i.e. Mercury’s wings on his shoes). *smh*

I don’t understand how these two dresses are even being compared– different colors, completely different styles– the hip projection is not the same thing as a red adornment on a neckline.

Yes, it was just a goofy angle. Angie’s seems like it was the decorative focus on her dress, so I was amused that someone else showed up with the same motif.

That said, I think Angelina’s is too tight. I know she’s lean as can be, but you can see where her ribcage ends in the front. Natalie’s looks like it could use a little more tailoring under the bust.

Way into Angelina’s dress. It fit beautifully and I was pumped to see her not in black and with a splash of color. I’m not even a big fan of hers and she was one of my favorites.
I really hate that side table-hip ruffle on Natalie’s dress. It looks way too rigid to be fabric! When she was on stage presenting and had to trot to her right to get to the correct microphone, I actually said out loud,”She looks like a centaur.” And now that I’ve seen it at the centaur dress, I can’t UNSEE it. To put a word on it, Angelina Jolie looks severe. Why does she always look like she’s ready to launch into Joan Crawford mode at any moment? The fit on Natalie’s dress was slightly boxy considering how tiny she is. Maybe she’s still self concious about her body after having had a baby well under a year ago. Hopefully because she’s been concentrating on her son and her relationship, not doing an insane starvation/9 hours of boot camp and extreme yoga regime so she can appear in a bikini with a ‘Natalie-how I INSTANTLY shed my baby weight by line-if so, BRAVO.

I feel like the tailoring of Angie’s dress makes it look like she’s wearing vintage-era undergarments – you know that shape those various undergarments used to give a woman’s body? If she’s wearing something to shape her body it should be less overt. I’m not sure what’s going on here.
I kind of hate on the “She’s too thin, she’s always too thin”…. Um…. yeah, she’s ALWAYS been “too thin” kind of should tell us something. She’s a skinny woman. Some days she looks thinner than others…. she’s human…. she’s probably the kind that doesn’t eat properly or at all when she’s stressed.
I mean, I’m sure people would look at me and say “she’s too fat, she’s always too fat” and not know my life and what I do and what I don’t do in that department…. and on some days I look fatter than others ( I’m the kind that turns to soda when I’m stressed out)….

Angelina looked drop-dead gorgeous; when girlfriend works it (as she did with the green dress at Cannes when preggers with the twins), it’s just stunning. And I thought she looked like she was enjoying herself, not mean at all…
Angie’s dress is a better fit (and it doesn’t have that weird bustle that’s making Natalie look bigger than she is); however, I don’t love the color on her. It didn’t wow me in any way. In fact, even though it’s a change, it’s still kind of boring. The tailoring is great, but I think the dress would have worked better on someone darker so that they’re some contrast between the dress and skin tone. As it is, she looks like the ice queen to me. And especially a mean one with her hair pulled back like that.

Angelina hit it out of the park last night. She looked amazing, and that’s coming from someone who usually hates red and white together. Natalie looks positively amateurish. I’ve seen that dress on countless bridesmaids, suburban moms at the school district formal gala, and that slutty girl in school at the eighth grade dance. Did she get it from Jessica McClintock or something?

I don’t mind Natalie’s color that much, but it just seems like a bad fit. She seems like she’s drowning in it. Angelina on the other hand looks gorgeous and elegant. I was happy to see her not wear something caftan-esque as well.
I’d like an amalgam of both dresses, because each by itself is lacking something. NP’s needs to fit like Angie’s, Angie needs to use color elsewhere.

I love the colors on Natalie’s dress and I like the look of it from the side, but from the front that side bustle just looks messy. She could have made it much more WOW. It’s just kinda there, on her body. Does nothing for me.

Personally I think Reese Witherspoon looked WWWAAAYYY better than either one of these two did. Reese Witherspoon is such a doll and has so much better of a personality also. I think Reese is just adorable, cute, nice and beautiful. Angelina Jolie is so over rated it is disgisting and she looks so sickeningly smug I can’t stand her. If I wasn’t me and I had to come back to earth as either one of them I would want to come back as Reese Witherspoon.

ANGELINA JOLIE IS WEARING A BRIGHT COLOUR AND A TAILORED DRESS. AT THE SAME TIME. Granted, it’s only a bit of bright colour, and you’re right about it being tailored to within an inch of its life, but I still consider this a minor miracle. I think she kills it (and looks very capable of murder), and Natalie is, sadly, no match.
I mean, it’s just so frustrating to see Angie deliberately hiding how amazing she is on the red carpet most of the time. I get that she doesn’t seem to ascribe to the “if you’ve got it, flaunt it” point of view, but it’s nice to see it flaunted once in a while.

On a more serious note, had the seams been done differently on the bodice of Angelina’s dress, it would have qualified as perfect. That expanse of white is distracting thanks to the blocky shadows flanking it.
But I did sort of like Natalie Portman’s dress – the color perhaps. I’d've liked to have seen it from another angle. In general though, I don’t like outgrowths from the hip.
Angelina Jolie is creepy skinny – even though she for once wore an interesting fab dress. The first time in a while – since that leather dress when she did that film with Brad Pitt. Or the green one when she was pregnant.
Why all the Angie hate? One of the few celebs who actually walks the talk on humanitarian issues. She looks effing brilliant here; regal, elegant.
Portman’s frock doesn’t do her justice. Too much fabric for her petite frame. Lovely colour though.
angelina’s dress was perfection. the clutch was unnecessary and the shoes could have been better but the hair and make up were fantastic so overall, perfection. one of the best dressed of the night.
I can’t vote on this … Natalie’s dress is awful, but Angelina looks too anorexic. So Claire Danes wins.
Natalie’s dress is “inspired” by Christian Dior’s 1948 “Envol” and “ZigZag” lines in his fall collection from that year. It’s a classic and very taxing dress design that actually changed fashion forever when Dior’s effect in the world took hold. So I don’t see it as an end table, I see it as a design element that’s meant to re-shape the fabric and by extension, the shape of the body; something that accentuates feminine curves without making the dress heavy or blocky. It’s meant to look as though the fabric has literally “taken wing”. Here’s an example from his collection:

It’s ironic that Natalie decided to wear such a recognizable Dior-influenced design, when she stepped down from being Dior’s spokesmodel after Galliano’s racist outbursts. But, it was Dior’s design she paid homage to, not Galliano’s. I think the fresh bright colours bring the dress into the 21st century and make the dress more festive. She looks elegant, beautiful, and composed. No “attitude” is necessary for her to look so good.
Angelina, on the other hand, definitely is much improved from her usual “throw on a tablecloth as long as it’s in a neutral colour that matches the beige lip gloss” look. You can tell she gave a damn and made an effort, and she looks good. But the look just doesn’t make it for 2 reasons: 1) White shoes, and, 2) tattoos. It looks like she was playing in the mud with the kids and ran out of time so she slapped on some makeup and pulled on her dress without a shower. The fact that they’re on both arms, and right above the dress back make the tacky unavoidable. Shame.
I thought as much, it does look like one of those mid-century ballgowns. But unfortunately, and this is unfortunate because I know it’s Lanvin, the fabric looks cheap and the colour +volume are drowning her out.
It pains me to say that Angelina looks better, because I don’t like her as a personality, don’t think she’s that pretty, and would like her to A) get over herself and B) tell Brad to stop smoking, put on some sunscreen, and cut his hair, because he is careening toward Mulletville with alarming speed (such sadly wasted pretty that is). Obviously I don’t know her personally and have no business deciding about her as a human based on a bunch of magazines, but the fact remains that I don’t have a soft spot in my heart for her. I mean, it wasn’t all that long ago that she was sucking face with Billy Bob Thornton and wearing his blood around her neck.
But her dress looks better on her than Natalie’s.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. She doesn’t look regal, she looks imperious and frozen. There isn’t an ounce of humor or charm about this woman that I can see.
I literally clapped my hands with glee when I saw Angie. She looks amazing, magnificently malificent and is not wearing a sack, or beige, or black. All hail the queen.
Natalie is of course stunning and has possibly the best posture in town, but the pink dress just doesn’t compare.
I’m really not sure why we’re comparing these two dresses…hardly seems fair to NatPort. That being said I am NOT a fan AnJo’s dress. Yes, it’s a snug fit and she’s got a hot bod but it’s really not working for me. This is a definite downgrade compared to her sparkly green dress from last year’s GG. Also, last year she looked like she was glad to be at the awards with her hot date…this year not so much. If she doesn’t like hollywood events why doesn’t she just stop attending them?
I really don’t like either dress but Angelina’s dress is awful and she looks dead. That color is not good on her, when she was presenting so looked sort of green tinged like she had just puked.
