I am not a huge fan of hers, as you guys know — when we interacted with her at Fashion Week, she was kinda smug — but even I have to give credit when its due:
She looks good in this. Her freckles are cute. And she is not bad on The Newsroom, which is itself actually really terrible. I know, I know. Up is down, purple is yellow, cats lying down with dogs, K Stew cheats on R Pattz, etc etc etc etc etc. You should probably just take the rest of the day off.

Newsroom is TERRIBLE! For every episode I watch, I have to re-watch an old episode of The West Wing to get the taste out of my mouth. So bad. Here’s hoping it gets better in the second season.
I agree so much with you. I loved The West Wing for all of the reasons I now hate Newsroom. Such mawkish sentimentality. The whole Rudy thing made me roll my eyes so far back in my head I’m now familiar with my grey matter.
Overall, sure, but two things for me:
1. I wish this were a straight-up sheath instead of the flouncy bottom thing.
2. The shoes aren’t fug, per se, but I don’t really like them. I hate an almond-toe and they just look a little cheap to me.
Otherwise: Cute pattern. Nice summer look. Cute clutch. Nice pony. Bitchface.
“Nice pony. Bitchface.” is the funniest thing I’ve read all day. Well, since the latest Hola, lovers! entry.
I don’t understand why Olivia Munn continues getting cast, in anything. What is her appeal? This is a round about way of saying that I totes agree with you.
Most likely the guys who hand out some of the jobs in Hollywood like her? She was on G4′s Attack of the Show for a long time. Maybe she has really good connections.
Love the clutch, hate that ponytail, am ambivalent about the shoes but leaning toward dislike. The dress is pretty, light, and summery, but she seems to have industrial strength Spanx on under there, which is probably not necessary.
Ugh I hate her. Like irrationally. I don’t know why. So it pains me to say this but yeah, she actually dose look really great here. Super cute dress. The hair is weird though, is it off center?
Honest question. Why does she get a lot of hate? I’m not familiar with any of her stuff, but I’ve seen some of her interviews (i.e. one on Kimmel), and she was pretty funny.
She has a rep for being very rude and mean to women. Lots of people have similar stories of her attitude. One random story: She was at my friend’s dinner for a sacred jewish holiday, and kept make jokes about how much she hates Jewish people. Joking is one thing, but when you are in the middle of a religious service, maybe save it for later?
She wrote a book about her sex life with “code names’ and apparently one story was about Bret Ratner. She had been banging him, and visited his trailer. He was playing with himself when she walked in, and eating shrimp with the other hand. He finished. He came out and said that the story was about him, but she was just mad because she slept with him to get parts, and then he forgot her name when she auditioned for him. She is a notorious star screwer (Justin Timberlake, etc.)
I wonder , too, and I love that dress.
Whoever helped her choose this dress and accessories should consider to do so. This is the cutest she’s looked in a while. Which is grudgingly admitted.
As for The Newsroom – well, I’ve always considered Aaron Sorkin shows to be preachy as hell, so I’m not sure why this one is considered to be any worse. But things being equal, I’d rather they make more episodes of Veep. Newsroom is no different, I’m enjoying Alison Pill immensely on it. And, as noted, Olivia Munn is actually good on it. Maybe it’s because she’s playing someone who doesn’t eat hot dogs in bikinis, I don’t know.
I cannot EVEN with Allison Pill on that show.
Me, either! I sometimes think how horrible it would be to get stuck in an elevator with her character. My intense love for TWW compels me to keep watching, though. :-/
Me too! Such a misuse of a talented actor! She was so good in In Treatment and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and she just killed it as Zelda Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris. It breaks my heart to see her being Maggie in the show that will probably, for better or worse, get her more exposure than anything else she’s done.
Her relationship with the ex-producer makes my skin crawl. The paternalistic kisses on the forehead are creepy.
However, I do enjoy the show. It’s preachy and so over the top and not realistic at all, but I still enjoy it.
I think she looks great! Cute dress. But I have no love for her and I don’t understand her appeal either… shes with Biel in my wtf category.
And I think the Newsroom is awful…
Perhaps unfairly, I assume that Olivia Munn refuses to take any role other than the “cool chick”
I get the same vibe from her. Doesn’t help that most of her interviews seem to be along the lines of, “Hey, I’m just so sexy that I take off my clothes in front of cameras! What’s your problem with that? And I’m funnier than every other girl! I’m just every guy’s fantasy! I don’t know why women don’t like me!”
She’s one of those girls who doesn’t have any girl friends because all girls are totally jealous of her.
Or at least that’s what she tells herself. In reality it’s because she’s a total narcissist.
I like the dress, but I don’t care for the shoes, hair & makeup! So, it’s just FINE, I guess! Olivia doesn’t bother me, though!
Hate the styling, but love the dress.
Noelle – I think a lot of the hate comes from her faux geek persona and that she was awful on The Daily Show. She also comes off really smug (not surprised to see the Fug girls confirmed it) and it bugs the crap out of me.
I watched her a fair bit when she was on Attack of the Show, and she is like a guy in her sense of humour. Like a hot guy with boobs who is actually a girl.
The dress is OK (though I think in some ways the flouncy part of the skirt gives it a slight matronly look). The shoes remind of something that would go on one of my Barbies. We don’t know if Ms. Munn feels defensive knowing she’s one of the few Asian-Americans in Hollywood who isn’t Lucy Liu. Munn might push other women away because she sees them as competition. If she had been more like fellow G4 employee Morgan Webb on X-Play (as in, capable, brainy, and attractive but not overly intimidating), I don’t think Munn would evoke the type of reactions expressed so far. My mom and her Asian friends are pretty supportive of each other as a whole. It would seem Ms. Munn doesn’t have that kind of a network to help her navigate the boys’ club of Hollywood, and she lacks the confidence of someone with an MFA or other in-depth theater training.
Love that dress. Want one. Please have it delivered to my house ASAP.
That is all.
what does she have to be so smug about?
Probably her boobs. I mean, I don’t love her, but she has really great boobs.
I like this dress, although I agree that the flouncy part could probably go. She has great skin and her freckles somehow only make her hotter (where mine just look like I need to invest in more sunscreen).
I do not think this dress is cute at all. It makes her look so dowdy and I hate that hemline on anyone; it’s so not flattering.
Eh.
She looks good…not spectacular, not out of the ball park…but no better than ( I mean, her body is better…but this dress doesn’t hightlight that) I looked in my super cute Old Navy ( who knew!) skirt today…. And the only reason I can say that is I had FOUR different women ask me about it.
That said…I don’t really know much about her…but I sure wish I had freckles!
Oh man, I thought the Newsroom was good and now I’m questioning my judgment … how can Aaron Sorkin do wrong? And I like her character on the show, and I think most of the other characters were cast well (Dev Patel is the cutest non IT guy ever, John Gallagher JR is the classic self-deprecating boy next door who is the real hero of the show, ok, Jeff Daniels gets on my nerves and the original choice of Marisa Tomei as MacKenzie would have been better) but it could be that I’m just automatically and reflexively partial to Aaron Sorkin since he’s about the only screenwriter out there that doesn’t set out with the assumption that he has to cater to the lowest common denominator… his writing doesn’t insult my intelligence, it’s HBO and YET it’s not porn with a plot (ahem, Game of Thrones – which by the way – I still love you) ….. what gives?
But we can all agree that her hair still sucks, right? And the shoes aren’t really doing it for me either.
I don’t get her at all – I can’t figure out what her “talent” is.
“Fine” for me… I don’t dig the shoes’ color and the fact that the dress’ embellishment work stopped right where the flounce started…looks kinda unfinished. Don’t see what’s the big deal with her, either.
It’s not actually a pony tail, it’s a top knot. It just looks like a pony tail because of the poster behind her. She should have worn her hair down with this dress. Love the dress, like the clutch, hate the shoes – they are 5 kinds of hideous.
I think she looks good. I like the dress and shoes – the whole look, really. I’ve never seen her act, so can make no comment on her talent, but from her facial expression, she looks like she suffers from high self-esteem. She looks very pleased indeed with herself.
As if most of the other gorgeous, less talented actresses in hollywood weren’t also sleeping their way into jobs. At least she’s honest. I’m more irritated by “oh poor little ole me” “starscrewers” like Taylor Swift. Yes, if you keep dating douchy celebrity men, you are going to get dumped alot. Oh but she is always IN LOVE. for three weeks.
I think it’s fine. I hate the hemline though (I don’t know why, I just thing it would be better straight across). I also think I might like the straps as plain white instead of with the pattern on them (but I’m not sure).
Cute earrings would have helped the styling a bit, but I don’t hate the top knot. I”m curious to see what it would have looked like with hair down. Might have been better, might have been worse. I don’t feel one way or the other about her, but anyone who would have a smug attitude with the fug girls automatically gets a black mark in my book. Is it written in pen or pencil?
I find her very unappealing. However, I do have to admit I like this dress. Even though they go with it, I don’t care for those shoes at all.
I guess I’m in the minority since I really like the Newsroom (though I’ve never seen the West Wing so I can’t compare the two). As for Olivia Munn, I haven’t really seen her in much else besides the Newsroom so I don’t have a strong opinion about her one way or the other, but I do think the dress is super cute.
Really? She looks like she spilled a fruity cocktail on herself while walking to a toga party. Fug. Ditto on her being unlikable and unappealing. I guess she has a good agent.
She is soooooo bad on The Newsroom! Really? You’re usually 99% right 100% of the time. All she does is read her lines fast. Doesn’t even try to act them out. The whole time I have the feeling she’s thinking, “I’m the prettiest person on this show.” Which she is. But the most annoying. Except for the humorless on/off boyfriend. Talk about smug.
Meh to her and her dress. I once came to her defense, but not anymore. She has lost her nerd cred by pissing of G-4 (and its fans) and just acting like a douche-nozzle all the time.
Team Morgan Webb & Felicia Day — Geeks that happen to be hot girls – unlike Olivia who was trying to be a geek…
Is it me? I’m usually good with names/faces, but there a a lot of dark haired actresses named Olivia, so I really can’t tell them apart. I do like this Olivia’s dress though.
I find this fug and certainly not a well played. Looks synthetic too.
She has dead eyes, she scares me.
The Newsroom stinks.
Olivia looks great.
That dress on that figure looks great! I wish I had both.
Never seen anything she’s been in (that I’m aware, unless she just failed to make an impression) but love and want both the dress and the shoes.
When I first saw her on TV, I thought she was one of the most stunning women had ever seen. However for some reason she doesn’t seem to photograph well. She looks bitchfaced in every shot and older than she actually is.
