First off: there is nothing wrong with this (although I think the pants are an eighth of an inch too long), and I thank the stars and sandwiches above us that the Venice Film Festival has started, so THINGS ARE HAPPENING AGAIN that aren’t just, like, “Kate Walsh Looks At Watermelons At Whole Foods!” — no offense to Kate Walsh, as I am sure even she thinks that looking at watermelons is fairly prosaic. HOWEVER:
When I saw this in thumbnail form in our image provider, I thought it was Gwyneth Paltrow, and then I decided, YES. Kate Hudson needs to make a movie in which she cracks her head on the edge of her toilet and wakes up as a sociopath hellbent on Single White Female-ing Gywneth Paltrow…no matter what the cost. I don’t mean that I want GOOP and Hudson to star in a remake of SWF. I mean that I want this movie to feature Kate Hudson playing EVIL KATE HUDSON and Gwynnie playing herself…except herself as terrified of Kate Hudson. And obviously, no one else in GOOP’s life believes that Kate Hudson is trying to kill/ruin/destroy her, because….you know. It’s Kate Hudson. “It’s just Kate Hudson,” Chris Martin would say, briefly looking up from his piano. “She’s harmless. Didn’t you see How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days? Actually, that reminds me: she called and asked me if I wanted to get drinks this week.” And then Kate Hudson would start a lifestyle newsletter called HUUD, all about the organic citrus she’s cultivating in Malibu with her friend Wolfgang Puck, and the best places to stay in cities around the world (“If you’re going to be in Jakarta, this hotel called The Four Seasons is lovely“). And then Gucci starts giving KATE all the best white double-breasted blazers, not Gwynnie. And the movie climaxes, of course, on the roof of the aforementioned Indonesian Four Seasons, with a full on-Kate Hudson/Gwyneth Paltrow bitch-fight in which they are BOTH wearing this suit and ripping each other’s $3000 blonde extensions out. Who will fall to her death, and who will live to become/remain Gwyneth Paltrow? You will just have to see the movie.

Yep, I’d watch that movie too. I actually think K. Hud looks really cute here. I’ve got an interview coming up, and I’m totally wishing I had a suit like that. Mine would fit a wee bit better, but then, I’ve got more to fit than Ms. Hudson does, too.
I’m pretty “meh” on the suit but two things I love: her hair and the color of her shirt. For those two things, I forgive the rest.

I think I love this. Except, obviously, the fact that the pants are really too long. That is more than a minor demerit, in my book, but whatever.
I will say this: when actresses wear suits to gad about town or to film festivals or what have you, they have the luxury of wearing their pants a hair tighter than is appropriate in a real work environment. Likewise, models on the runway. It’s a bit tougher to work that look in real life where one has to be professional. There’s no point to this, except that it’s a pet peeve of mine when suits are cut specifically that way–like you’re going to wear asshuggers to the office.
I’m enjoying that this is a pet peeve about tight pants from pantsonfire.
I can and will use anything as a launching pad to air my grievances.
That shirt is particularly unfortunate. It’s sheer lace and the color of mushrooms. Gwynnie would never wear a fungus shirt. Well, okay, as a special favor to Stella she might, but for no other reason. Overall, I get the impression that this was a leftover costume from that yacht movie her (Kate’s) mother was in.
Goodness. Those pants need at least 2″ chopped off the bottoms.
I so want to see that movie – and perhaps a starring role with Ms Goop would give Evil Kate the financial wherewithall to have her pants hemmed.

Everything is far too long. Hems, sleeves, the works, the proportions are all way off. Kate’s, what, about 5’6″, 5’7″? This must have been made for Gabrielle Reece.

I like it. Since the extra length of both the pants and the sleeves is clearly part of the styling, (in other words, its not a tailoring issue) it really does not bother me . Pants suits don’t often look chic, but I think this one does.
Make the pants the right length and this outfit would be an absolute winner! But, she looks lovely, comfortable in her skin and confident, so I’ll give her a FAB!
By the way, even though that movie plot is extremely amusing, it’s also implausible… Why would Kate Hudson want to be anyone other than Kate Hudson? Plus, Kate & Gwyneth have so much in common: they are both gorgeous, they both come from Hollywood Royalty, their lovers are Rock Stars, they have 2 lovely kids each (1 boy & 1 girl), and they are successful actresses! The only thing Gwyneth has that Kate doesn’t is a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame, an Oscar, an Emmy and a SAG award, but they both have a Golden Globe. And, they are both AWESOME!
Pants ARE too long. However, I love that she looks happy, relaxed and boho in all that she wears – points for cheerful consistency. She really owns her style, rather than looking “dressed by x “. I would love to look this great on an iffy day.
In such a movie, I think KH would give GOOP a run for her money. For me GOOP is Chris Martin’s wife, a mother of two, a bearer of clothes we know expensive no matter how cheap they look, a carrier of a certain existencialist agenda for the very rich… and that’s it. At least iI never see or believe I’m seeing HERSELF. Kate Hudson is sort of a has been and was never near the fame GOOP enjoyed- being Brad Pitt’s one time fiancee helps, after all- but she DOES deliver a very lively personality and image. The more for her as an actress if she’s faking. She’s a talented performer who out of bad career choices or some personal reason slided into the bikini-clad movie roles. Uh, and the pants are too long.

The whole suit is made for a taller person and hasn’t been tailored to Kate’s scale. In and of itself, it’s fine, it just doesn’t fit.
