As I said on Twitter — and on The Cut — Carey Mulligan hasn’t looked this good in, like, possibly ever. Perhaps marriage is really agreeing with her; whatever it is, she needs to keep it up.

Marcus Mumford + Carey Mulligan = WIN!
Oh, I agree!!
Just GORGEOUS. Love this so much.
(Are they really trying to push us into satin shoes, though? Coco wore them, too…)
It’s glorious. With her golden hair up top and her silver shoes below, she even coordinates perfectly.
Her face looks pasty to me. Way, way, way too much foundation and powder. A little stronger lip would have been nice but would not help the pancake. Yuck.
See Beyonce & Gwynnie, you don’t have to expose all sorts of flesh to shine.
I was hoping you would feature this!! It was one of my favorite looks of the night, for sure. So interesting!!
I really don’t like this. Super giant reflective fish scales. The makeup is also killing me.
Ditto. Glad I’m not the only one!
I agree – she seems like a happy and super cute girl – but the dress is a 50/50 for me. Love the top and how it highlights her face. But the bottom is too stiff. Taking this too far, I’m sure, but scales = fish = water = fluid. The dress should flow and have movement for me for this to be a true success. But, again, she’s a newlywed cutie.
I LOVE this. And I’m really glad she kept everything else simple.
This is fun, but this is FUG.
I agree…I really am not a fan.
I love this. Probably my favorite red carpet dress in 2012 yet. so much glitz and glam paired with fun. She works it well.
This may be the only photo I’ve ever seen of her where she doesn’t look like she’s sucking a lemon.
She and the Mumford brother got married? Already?
Love everything but the makeup.
Sorry, but ick! I wouldn’t have known who it was. It’s like those so-called glamour shots: Here’s a picture of me. You won’t be able to tell it’s me, but here it is. No.
Ha! I don’t agree in regards to this look (I love it), but your description of Glamour Shots is hilarious!
This is what I was wishing the costumes at The Hunger Games would look like: completely memorable and gorgeous.
I love the way the gold top reflects on her face. She looks so happy! I too wish she had a stronger lip color, but… overall I like this. I agree that maybe it’s too stiff, but I think she looks adorable and happy so I’m giving it an A.
Ooooo shiny! I really like this! She really does look so very happy…. good for her
and agreed on the lip, could use a stronger color
This solidifies her status as Blanchett 2.0 to me … which is an awesome thing. Love her.
She looks like her face is frozen. The whole thing looks like a mannequin in a tribute to fashions of 1968 was left behind on a red carpet.
Love it…this is one of my favorites of the night. I don’t really love the makeup, but she really does have such pretty, pretty skin.
Usually I can’t stand her but this is possibly the best she’s ever looked. Stylist win!
I guess I just really don’t get it. I hate it. Carey is impossibly cute, but I hate how the light reflects onto her face, the fish scale look, the different colors… and I kind of wish she’d go back to the brunette pixie cut.
Love it ! Unique without being outrageous, and so appropriate for her age and body. Brava !
Art Conn hated this, but I think the fit of it is killer. And she looks genuinely thrilled. It’s the Met Ball – let her have it.
She looks like a Las Vegas lounge hostess; so very out.
I think her fun and obviously happy attitude carried this off. At first I wasn’t sure about it, it reminded me of Kind Midas’ koy pond, but the more I looked at it the more I really liked it. Attitude can be a game changer (ahem, Ginnifer *cough* Goodwin)
All I see here is Betty Rizzo in lady armor.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
It’s a bit too shiny and it the skirt does look a bit rigid, but I love the cut and the fit. Dressy but not slutty. Go her.
This could be good but it looks awfully stiff on her and the shape… everything’s off for me. And she looks matronly with this hair.
She wins belle of the ball for me. Love!
Did NO ONE touch up their roots before this Big Deal Fancy Event?
I don’t understand. Why is she dressed as a fish?
Seriously awesome dress!! I don’t love a halter neck but it’s so shiny and fun (finy?) that I don’t mind it!
pretty girl from the back, but something fishy going on in front.
