Oscars Post-Party Fug Carpet: Salma Hayek

We’ve seen a version of this dress on a couple other celebrities recently, like Lily Cole and Anna Paquin:

It is a McQueen, and though I am nervous about saying anything about the late designer’s clothes, since he died so young and so tragically, I also feel like… the artist’s legacy is his work, good and bad, and to stop talking about it altogether or to turn falsely sycophantic somehow lessens what is left behind. And so I am going to admit, albeit with countless kegfuls of respect for everything Alexander McQueen did for fashion, that the patterns on these dresses FREAK ME OUT — they’re like reanimated carcasses of a mythical cat-owl-eagle crossed with a dash of Nicodemus from The Secret of NIMH. But what separates this one from the others is this view:

Jessica has referred to this line as the Zuul Collection, in reference to Ghostbusters. And here, I fear, is the piece inspired by that time Gozer the Gozerian chewed up his girlfriend’s derriere and then expectorated it in front of a funhouse mirror.
