Paris Fugshion Week: Dior

So many Fashion Weeks; so many shows that happened while we were busy putting a lid on awards season. Can’t everything grind for a halt until we wake up from our Oscars comas?

    I’m underwhelmed. So much crochet!

Seriously underwhelmed. There’s not a single thing here I would spend money on even if it was affordable. A legendary name plate does not guarantee a worthy purchase.

Heather, PUHLEEZE find the If the Shoe Fits movie and fug the fromage! It sounds awesome.

I remember If the Shoe Fits!!!!!! Man, I miss Jennifer Grey’s old nose.

I love how in #14, the model looks like she’s trying not to laugh.

    It had to be difficult!

Why can’t the leg curtains go away?

    • Helen
      +1

      I think they will.

And be replaced with thigh-warmers. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the couture…

#15 has Jennifer Aniston written all over it.

There are 2 or 3 pieces I’ve seen elsewhere that I really liked – there’s a red coat with a fabulous scarf-tie neckline, a black coat kind of like the grey one with a white facing that shows all the way down, and there’s a black leather coatdress which is very reminiscent of that red coatdress Leelee Sobieski looked so great in – hey, there’s someone else to wear Dior besides Marion C, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlize and Diane Kruger.

I got as far as slide 8 of 23 (quite liking some of the pieces so far actually!) but I must protest about the ‘grandmother’ knitting comment. Knitting isn’t just for grannies you know. I am an avid knitter and I’m only 29, and there are many, many other young knitters/crocheters/fiber artists out there..Lets stop perpetuating the ‘granny’ stereotype! ;)

OK but you have to admit that was a great line. I snorted. I can TOTALLY imagine Kruger standing there while (anyone) knits around her. It’s funnier if you imagine a granny.

I think the comment was more about the style of the knitting. The Dior knits shown were not exactly Ashley Paige risque or Joan of Dark awesome.

Is there a color shortage in France?

Unlike the McCartney show I do like these shoes–even the crazy patterned boots (if they are, indeed, boots and not some weird thing going over the shoes).

And I LOVE that movie–a Cinderella story complete with the ugly stepsisters (in this case, roommates) who make Grey’s character sleep in a corner. And that crazy, slicked-back hairdo that was supposed to make her irresistible. It is truly bad.

OMG slides 14 and 23 made my heart cry. “Inspired by Peppy Granny mallwear.” Shoe appliques? With glitter? Barf.

Which is not to say I like any of the rest of it much better. I think aesthetically I’m more against most of what’s going on here even in CONCEPT than I am against Stella’s mess.

@Deek: I flick through the photos while knitting a hat. Knitters unite. :D

With all due respect to Dior, I stopped wearing things that had glittery pictures of inanimate objects on them about the same time I stopped matching the Hippo with the Hippo to pick an outfit.

I love every single pair of shoes shown. Especially the ones in slide #6.

A much-needed palate cleanser after the really really bad terrible awful shoes from the Stella McCartney show.

Yes, I would happily take all of the shoes in the first third of this slideshow.

Mila Kunis could definitely pull off the minis in this slideshow.

After the wooly tongue comment all I could see on the next image is where they cut the tongue out of the next dress.

The grey coat (Slide 100) is PERFECTION. ….Le sigh…

The houndstooth shoes warm my heart. The crying skirt looks to me like a couple of ants crawling up over the eye (YICK!) up to the bodice flower.

There are some misses but I really LOVE Dior. It appeals to my old school notion of Paris fashion. The models and styling are lovely. There is some weirdness but nothing craze balls.

Since the “Girl Scout sash” is grey, it looks to me more like a seatbelt. But the dress is lovely all the same!

The grey coat and houndstooth (especially shoes) are great, but what the heck is going on with in model’s leg in slide 20? ewwwww…

Yes…I need to know. Is something actually wrong, or can we just say that models have imperfections too. yay!

False alarm. Full size I see that it’s just the sheer skirt wrinkle. Another vote against this sheer madness.

I must say that I love outfits #8 & #12 and would happily wear them myself! Also, I COVET COAT #10 and the ring the model is wearing with it! And all the purses are great!

Dior makes me feel like “Runaway Peplum” should be a band name.

Those models make me sad. They all look like they’re 14 and terrifyingly thin. I know we’re not supposed to talk about bodies here. I am just disturbed by the whole model culture. Sigh.

In other news, I actually thought most of that stuff was lovely, even the giant boots with the puffy metallic skirt. (I don’t know how to write fashion-y stuff, so I leave that to the Fug Ladies.)

I am completely meh on all the stuff with appliqués or whatever on them, but omg I <3 almost all the rest of it. It is so lovely, so structured, so not-at-all-Stella-Mcartney. Proof that it is possible (and far FAR preferable!) to do "fashion" without making it ugly or unwearable. I love the knitwear in the first two slides, especially.

Did anyone else notice the insidious whispers of “nips ahoy” emanating from slide #19?
