Fug or Fab: Hayden Panettiere

I don’t know, you guys. I’m thrilled Hayden Panettiere is taking some risks and being mature and whatnot, but I still feel like this is a case of a really young girl — who is, in fact, still technically in her teens — wearing something we’d as likely see on Nicollette Sheridan or Bette Midler or something.

The one full sleeve feels a tiny bit 80s to me, and while the theory of the tiny slit and the silver shoulder is interesting, in practice I’m not sure. In the words of my father, let’s have a butcher’s at a close-up:

I mean, it kind of looks like her dress ripped by accident so they tried to save it with a piece of aluminum foil. Or by pulling the trim off a very elaborate pair of sneakers.

However, I love her makeup. I had a dream last night that there
was a MAC counter at my high school (yes, high school, despite the fact
that I haven’t been there in 13 years… um, I mean, 3 years) and we were all sneaking out of Algebra to get makeovers and try on shoes. Because, you know, clearly MAC counters are well-known for selling shoes. [I swear to God, someone in this dream was wearing loafers made of True Religion jeans. WTF, subconscious?] Anyway, the main makeup dude put everyone in exact same shade of
deep, ruby-red lipstick. My dream self totally looked around and was
like, “Is this man drunk? Most of us look stupid in this color. I feel
like a harlot.” Then I woke up and decided not to try and study that
dream for subtext, because I don’t want to know.

But my point is Hayden is carrying off that lippy really well, so full marks to her for that.
