Aw, it isn’t a terrible look! Her face looks SO pretty! I can’t get over how gorgeous she is in real life–she was such a frosted hair mess in “The Fighter.” Great in that role, though.

I didn’t see the ceremony, but based only on this photo, I don’t think it’s that bad. It’s not incredibly flattering or special but I’m not seeing “Master Class in Fug” in this shot.
I didn’t think it looked that bad on TV, especially when she was moving. This doesn’t photograph well, though. And it it had been about 2 inches wider through her torso and hips it would had a much more flattering flowy look. And agree that she is capable of looking much better.
I agree it’s not flattering – I think the way it bunches around her torso really emphasizes that it doesn’t fit her quite well. I don’t think it’s a bad dress, I think it’s a bad dress for her.
But her hair and makeup are awesome. So this is more of a “meh” for me than a full-out fug.
Nothing about that dress looks good. Not the color, fabric or cut. At least her hair and make up look great.
I like it, too. Has its little issues that could have been totally prevented with a good undergarment.
I’m into this one, especially if it had a scootch more room in the hip area.
She should’ve taken that extra bit of fabric from the bottom and added it to her torso. With a better fit and the right support garments, this could’ve been awesome!

The fabric and the sheen are not very flattering for her. If the same dress had been a different, more matte fabric it might have been okay.
Good: her face looks great. Bad: the dress. Too shiny, it looks too tight or too stiff or something. I’m not sure what exactly is causing the problem, but it looks terrible.
Far too snug in the hip and tummy area. Either wear Spanx or the fabric needs more give. Don’t like the bustline/cutout design at all. Thumbs down.

Really? I kind of like it. I would ditch the cap sleeves in favor of a more flattering sleeveless line at the shoulders, and I would add just a tad extra room in the waist and hips, but I think it’s a great choice for the event. She’s drop dead beautiful when she wants to be — at the same time as being wonderfully everywoman when she strips the makeup off — and this is a great way to shout, “Hello, I am FIFTY and I am HOT. You should send me scripts about brilliant women kicking ass and wearing slinky gowns now!”

This is unbeliveably awful in this photo, so I’ll hope it was prettier in motion. Cap sleeves are a personal dislike of mine, and should not be used with that geometric a neckline. The seams under and down the center of each breast give her torpedo boobs. Her abdomen is outlined unfavorably. And with the center slit, seam and neckline, it’s like a too-tight zip up bathrobe made of tin foil.

I love it too! Thought she looked gorgeous on TV. I noticed later that the top squashed her in an unfortunate way…but I think it’s only from this particular angle. So…agree to disagree, ladies.
You are all crazy. This is a gorgeous dress. Fits her like a glove. Yeah, the boobs are a little squashy, but that’s the cut/style of it. It’s got some very ’30s/’40s Old Hollywood to it. I love it.
good idea, execution not so much. The sheen and the fit make her stomach look bigger than her boobs. Head suit is gorgeous though!

It looked awful on TV — in motion and standing still. No one has told this poor woman about Spanx.
I am so sad for her. SOMEONE HAS TO HELP HER BEFORE THE OSCARS, because she is almost a SURE THING to win the Best Supporting Actress Award, and she just CANNOT go up there looking terrible. It will haunt her forever.
