The Fug Knight Rises

Well, it is midsummer. And presumably the UK Batman premiere was at least in the evening. But this is less a dream for me than a nightmare:

Even Titania would be like, “Honey, no. You are not a bag of pot pourri.”

Supposedly this sucker also has a keyhole back:

And something of a keyhole side. I don’t know. It looks LESS dumpy from this angle, but it also looks more precarious. But when you are this girl, and you have her slim body, wouldn’t you want to work it and flaunt it like crazy? The old Adam Sandler Gap girl sketch on SNL was not always a font of wisdom, but sometimes just cinching it is the way to go. Or tailoring it. Or… saying no and moving onto something more flattering. There’s a thought.

i kind of love this. like a lot. yeah, it fits her like a bag, but with those open sides and a key hole back, i love it.

    and she’s smiling!

I like it a lot too. Not as much as Marion’s outfit at this event, but this looks cute on Anne and it’s refreshing when someone opts out of wearing something skintight even though they can.

The shoes, though, are hideous. Bridesmaid chic is not the look.

Additionally, whatever wonkiness I was seeing with her eyes from the last one, is now gone, so she just looks lovely, not exhausted, and ready to have fun. Plus, SHINY!

    But it’s a bag.

It’s just so droopy, which was my problem with the other one, too. Although maybe after having to wear that catsuit, she’s like, “NEVER AGAIN.” For which I really couldn’t blame her.

I’m starting to think that she’s really so insecure about that haircut she’s picking out clothes that will pull focus (giant collar of flowers, deep V front the other day) but because her heart’s not in it she’s getting stuff that’s bland and fits poorly. Her smile in both of those pictures just screams “don’t look at my hair PLEASE don’t look at my hair.”

      Totally agree.

      • Chasmosaur
        0

Or it’s not so much about insecurity, as the radical change in hair has her generally at odds with what she’s seeing in the mirror. SHE’s distracted by the cut, and she shouldn’t be.

        0

I agree as well. Something is causing discomfort in this girl and I say it’s either the hair or she just started her period and doesn’t have a tampon. Major fug on this dress.

And it’s a shame, because with a more sharply tailored outfit, the hair would look more gamine and chic.

        Agreed!
And she has those eyes! I kind of want to see her in a black turtle neck and black tights Ala “Funny Face”……but I’d be happy to see her just wear something that fits.

I was just going to say the same thing. Cutting her hair so short really killed her mojo, she doesn’t seem to know what to do with herself, dress-wise ( even though she looks really pretty)

It LITERALLY looks like she cut some holes in a sack and glued some flowers on.

Those flowers at the neckline are gorgeous & I like the basic idea of this, but yeah, it definitely needs some definition somewhere. Also, I’m thinking a strappy shoe would fit the style of the dress so much better, right?

I, also, love this. Quite a bit. But… Hemmed properly? This is an issue again? Did her hair and legs get shorter at the same time, or are they just not trying with this tour?

  12. Kate

I like it. In some shots of the new hairdo, she can look a little awkward, but she is totally stunning in that second picture. She’s statuesque enough that the lack of shaping doesn’t drag her down, although I think this would have been better with sort of a blouson waist. Also I hope her doublesided tape stuck around for the whole night, because it’s looking a little precarious there.

    • Kate
      0

Agree, other Kate :) About her face looking stunning in the second picture. Her eyes look so large and dramatic, and she looks – dare I say – quite gamine. In a good way.

I’m not really a fan of the dress, but I like it more from the second angle.

Side… okay, well, not exactly “boob” happening here. I’ll just leave it at “I still like her hair.”

Not only is this God awful ugly it’s not even well made. Just look at that side seam , that’s what the Home Ec clothing I made in high school looked like.

    • Leah
      0

I thought the same, but on reflection I’m not sure whether that’s the seam itself or one HECK of a lot of toupee tape stuck to the underside of it pulling it out of shape. Arguably, it doesn’t matter; this dress isn’t going to be wearable without the tape, so it needs to be made to look good with it.

    • Ann
      0

I agree… looks like shoddy workmanship when the seam puckers like that. It’s not like it’s a difficult thing to get right, either.

Very pretty. She should consider keeping this hair. She seems to manage it quite well (no weird lumps). Not forever, but for a few years. It sets her apart from the Jessica Biels and Megan Foxes.

I like the dress for being something different, but it’s a miss. I think the hem is wonky. And perhaps just slightly more fitted or gathered if she wanted to keep the graceful draping.

The side reminds me of the shirts the guys in highschool would wear while working out. You know the ones, where they cut out the arms and the sides to show off their “guns.”

And the rest reminds me of a sack of potatoes.

    • GFY Heather

HA. YES. The gun shirts. That is so true.

Chop several inches off and cinch in at the waist, and this would be an A+ for me.

I like this. It’s summer and even though it’s floor-length, it looks like it would keep a girl cool when it’s 90+ degrees outside. Love the pleated neck with the flowers as it brings attention to her face.

I’m 7 months pregnant, and this is the kind of sack I dream of wearing on a daily basis because I cannot stand form fitting clothes. But I am of the mind set that I don’t give a sh*t what I look like.

When you are gorgeous and statuesque, your desired dress shouldn’t be consistent with that of a fat pregnant lady.

Oh honey, NO!! There is nothing attractive about this outfit. Cut, color, fit, and styling all suck rocks. Unless she’s doing the Walk of Shame from the local Feed ‘N Seed store, there is no reason for this to happen. I do like the hair.

i, too, like this, but then I loved the cream colored dress with the flowers that emma stone wore to the spiderman premiere in spain or someplace. I love anything with flowers, and I’ve always loved creamsh-colored stuff. A belt of some sort might might have helped, though. Love you jessica and heather. Sometimes you guys are so funny, i laugh so hard it hurts!

I don’t HATE it – as a chesty woman, I always envy the way someone this slim can wear a sack and not look like she’s a beanbag chair. And I think the fabric is probably very cool in person. BUT THE SHOES. She wore champagne colored SATIN pumps with it. EEEEEK!

Is there some sort of secret Hollywood rule that dictates that if you cut your hair above your shoulders you must suddenly only appear in public looking modest and sullen, and preferably with a floral accent? Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara? These women have turned the term “wallflower” into a literal aesthetic. This is a summer blockbuster premier, for crying out loud. You are CATWOMAN, not WOMANWITHMANYCATS!

I really love this from the waist up. So much potential with this dress. I like the fit up top. I wouldn’t want to turn this into a totally fitted dress at all, but it needs some kind of waist definition (the aforementioned “cinching”). Her face and hair look amazing in these photos–the best she’s looked since she got the haircut. Kind of like Audrey Tautou. I love that she’s not being boring.

I’m getting to realize right now… I’m so in love with this girl that I’m afraid whatever wreck she dresses on I might still find adorable. Well, with such a refreshing face! And I love the flowers framing her face, and although the arm is cleavagy there is no side boob. Actually this big side window compensates for the lack of shape. I ‘d wish she had picked shoes of some other color, though.

She is the worst, and I hate this dress.

I think it’s important to remember that there is middle ground between sad sack of potatoes and skin tight, form fitting. She doesn’t have to wear her cat woman suit so she can get some shape. Just get something that has a recognizable waist, Anne, that’s all I ask! You’re too pretty to look like you’re wearing the product of craft time at the feed bag factory.

That dress literally looks like a burlap sack she tried to ‘Pretty In Pink’ into a dress after the 4th of July potato sack race was finished. Also, I do not like this hair on her. You need a sweet round face like Ginnifer Goodwin or Michelle Williams to pull it off.

I don’t understand Anne Hathaway. Sometimes she’s so beautiful it actually makes me hurt, and other times she’s just so “meh.” In my own life I have found it difficult to be fabulous all the time, but, unlike Anne, I don’t have virtually limitless financial resources and a team of stylists picking out my clothes for me. I just don’t get it.

  31. Corriner

I have always felt that Anne Hathaway’s eyes are too big for her face… or too pulled-down at the corners, which results in an all-around droopyness. Unfortunately I just can’t get on board with the short haircut because it emphasizes this to an insane degree. She’s still beautiful, just…droopy!

I do agree with the above posters who said she would look very chic and gamine with some dark, tailored numbers rather than the plain sacks she’s been trotting out.

A nice suit or LBD would look very Parisian! (or what ‘Parisian’ looks like in my mind!)

Maybe she’s lost her confidence along with her hair because she usually knocks it out of the park at events, but her clothes have been been really ill-fitting and not all that flattering of late. Come on, girl, you are friends with Valentino. Surely, you can do better than this!!

  33. Erin

This honestly may be the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I haaaate it. and I hate her hair. I think it might be really cute as a chin-length bob, but until then….

It makes a skinny little thing look very, very broad in the beam. So, no.

But I love the short dark hair with her strong features and pale skin.

  36. Chrissy

I don’t hate it from the front, but the sides are way too low because it is so loose. A different color would have helped alot because it’s a bit washed out, but I kind of like the neckline. I hate the matchy shoes with it. I usually don’t mind matchy shoes like GFY does, but there needs to be some skin space in between if they are going to match that much.

From the front I thought that the dress was one of those open back varieties, and I was ok with that (although the flowers at the neck are a bit much). The sides though just make me think of all the guys I’ve seen whose idea of cool is to cut the sleeves and side-seams out of their t-shirts. Not a good look.

Here she is, trying much too hard, as usual. If you’re constantly straining to be a “gamine icon,” it’s not working, dude.

I could see this dress on Michelle Williams, without the keyhole, of course, and not bat an eye; but, on Anne it looks so weird… It reminds me of that episode of “Friends”, where they are at Monica’s “getting ready” to go to a Gala at the Museum with Ross, when Phoebe spills something on her dress and tries to cover it up with a flower wreath (is that even a word?)! Anyway, it doesn’t work! Sorry, Anne!

What fools these mortals be <–obligatory Bard ref. I sort of love the floral neckline–I'm a sucker for boho chic/too much ornamentation/Della Robbia artificial fruit–but the dress makes her hips look wide, which is a really unfortunate optical illusion for someone so tall and slim. In the immortal words of Max Bialystock, "when you got it, flaunt it."
