Well, she always at least has a nice face.

I’m sorry – I can’t even get behind the haircut, as much as I love this girl and sympathize with growing out a pixie.
It looks so crispy when she straightens it like this.
I have found the trick to growing out a pixie is to cut off anything in the back that can be confused the a mullet.
Oh honey, just……no. I also think the hair looks fried and having the roots and tips be one color and the rest of it be another is not an attractive look. On anybody. The fabric she’s wrapped in is doing her no favors either. I don’t mean “the fabric out of which her outfit was made”; more “I’m calling fabric because it doesn’t meet the qualification for ‘clothes’”
Lovely girl, bad choice, hope she gets it better next time.
Paper towels, no? I feel as soon as she moves she will ‘tear’ a little bit, then a little bit more…then she’s in the new millennium version of 9/12 Weeks: 9.2.0 Weeks.
Yes. This looks like a non-traditional materials challenge on Project Runway that got its designer aufed.
Sweet P’s menswear from Season 5: unintentionally deconstructionist. Link here.
No.
Also: didn’t she learn anything from the side boob nip slip the other day???
Sheesh.
I am so disappointed, Emma. You and side boob should never ever appear together again. Also, stop with the one sleeve (or non-sleeve) things, you are better than that.
Maybe it’s because I’ve never watched or read Harry Potter (please don’t kick me out of Club GFY!) but I dont really get her appeal. And I really don’t get it in that…shirt?
@Stefanie: stop what you are doing and go read the entire HP series RIGHT NOW. it should only take you a week, well worth the vacation time. then watch the movies and appreciate how fully emma watson IS hermione granger. then you will get her appeal. (obviously j/k… i’m sure you have a full and fabulous life that is far richer than the fictional world of hogwarts. but if you do get around to reading them, you won’t regret it.)
so it is as a great emma watson appreciator that i resoundingly HATE this look and want to undo it. i think one turn of her timeturner should be enough.
@Stefanie Book Hermione is great, Movie Hermione is annoying. When I see the movies, I always forget that I actually love Hermione until I go back and re-read the corresponding book. I am a big HP fan and I don’t get Emma’s appeal either.
I only just finished reading the series for the first time last week, I’ve also never watched the movies but even from the trailers I’ve seen she just is so good at portraying Hermoine. I need a free weekend and then I will have a HP movie-athon.
The books are really good, way better than I was expecting. I finally “get” all the hype.
Defs recommend reading them, the first two are more for younger readers but after that the series gets really good. (don’t skip the first two though, you need all the background info)
Ugh no…. and I can’t say I like the hair either. Although as I am growing out a short cut, I do understand the struggle.
Did you see her Glamour cover? Plain awful. I love her and she seems pretty level headed, but there are some recent choices…
At least they didn’t make Kristen Stewart wear this. It looks like something you would wear after a nasty public breakup, when you’re all confused and vulnerable.
In short, cute girl, *awful* misuse of fabric.
What the what?! I can’t even…WHAT is happening with that thing? I am willing to give Emma Watson a pass on almost anything, so great is my affection for Hermione Granger, but that thing looks something that would come out of a Project Runway challenge being held in a psych ward.
She is seriously gorgeous but the hair is awful.
Hermione Granger would never display side-boob.
Thank you !!! She would NEVER.
I’m not even sure it’s a sleeve. It’s awfully half-capelet-adjacent…
I like reading these comments. It’s somehow therapeutic to hear others rage about this look. It goes without saying (but I guess I’m saying it anyway), that I completely concur with the hair and dress(?) comments. Ew.
Side comment: I am usually quite the Side Boob Defender, but I can’t even with this. For me, it feels a little…obscene here, maybe? I think it’s not so much the amount of actual side boob as much as the fact that the bodice fabric doesn’t cut toward her back, but toward her belly button. It also feels a wee bit like she’s breaking bad in order to escape Hermione; while I can understand the impulse, I worry she will go too far (and there have been other troubling indicators on this score). Also, that amount of effort and discomfort with how you think others perceive you is not appealing or chic, though it is probably age appropriate.
I hate this trend of clothes that are wearing clothes. Why is that skirt wearing a wrap? Why is that dickie wearing a sleeve? What are designers smoking?
“…clothes that are wearing clothes.” BRILLIANT.
I think the shape and cut of the hair is cute, but I see people’s point about it looking fried/bad coloring. I think if that is fixed, the shape/cut is really good one her. And I just can’t even begin to comprehend the outfit.
Yes. She just needs to put down the flat iron and step away, and her hair could be decent. The outfit, though, is completely no-sville.
Yikes. She looks like she was accosted by rabid HP fans who tried to rip her clothes off as souvenirs.
It’s the Frankenstein of clothing. A bunch of bits and pieces of different outfits sewn together, and the end result is monstrous.
THIS!!!
Pretty face…PRETTY, pretty face. Hair – the two-tone concept doesn’t work on Lea Michele and it doesn’t work on Emma-Hermione. As much as I love her and her acting, that much do I hate this ugly…woven stuff slapped on her person. Paper towels, indeed. And the righthand side of the collar looks like my mom’s good linen napkin tucked into my dress at Christmas dinner. When I was 3. I say…trim the ends of this into a lovely, slightly-turned-under bob with some real edge, and put her back into the sort of dresses that she models. Wrong girl to channel Lohan and Kardashian ‘fashion.’
No one else is upset by the “ring”?
Why is there a zipper and placket on that bottom peplum-like thing? Was that part originally supposed to clothe her top half, and they folded it down and substituted that home ec-project-gone-awry of a blouse instead? Is that a lining I see peeking out from under the skirt? Should I be happy if it is, because otherwise this outfit would add sheerness to its list of offenses? And who puts a button that close to the hem of a garment? Was this chopped at the last minute?
I don’t understand.
Whether in architecture, food, sculpture, or clothing, I have rarely, if ever, found deconstructionism to be anything resembling a good idea.
And this… item… has been deconstructed right out of existence as the dress it was meant to be. I can practically hear it sobbing, “Please, put me back together! I’m a dress, really, I’m a DRESS!” *snif*
Also, yes, val., that thing on her finger is downright ugly.
She’ll get it right next time, I’m sure. She so often does! And one thing I can say about her occasional mistakes, like this one: They’re not dull.
Oh, my, is that what’s going on here? Deconstruction? It’s pretentious and pointless enough when it’s done with food; done with clothing, it’s pretentious, pointless, and hideous. Stop the madness!
I.M. Pei has a lot to answer for.
This is just head-to-toe janky, with an order of sideboob to go.
Nothing redeeming about this dress. It makes me feel gross and sad at the same time.
It looks like some sort of white dress challenge on Project Runway that the designer didn’t have enough time to finish and just sent down whatever it was that he had on the model.
Oh Hermione, no. I hope she kept her wand. Maybe she can accio something pretty.
I actually fully LOVE the hair, and it would have been so very easy for her to go the extensions route to ease the pain of growing out the crop and she hasn’t. I like how natural she is and fair play for growing out a haircut like a normal person.
I am not sure who styles her, but yes she is very young and naturally slim, and being so sensible they tend to try and counteract this with putting her in something a little ‘edgy’. This sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t, but I think she normally carries it off fairly well.

I don’t love the hair – it needs a trim, IMO, is the problem – but I fully understand it. Growing out a short cut can be so hard. Sometimes you just want it to be LONG again already! And straightening does give just a little more length.
But I join the applause for not adding extensions. Many women have bemoaned the damage done to their natural hair by extensions, no matter how well and carefully done! It’s very smart of her to resist that temptation, and I also agree that it’s nice to see a bona fide star just growing it out like most of us would.
Dear Miss Watson:
I do think that it would do you well to remember what it was that brought you fame and FORTUNE: The “Hermione Granger” look. There are hundreds of thousands of us who wish you would return to “The Look.”
I thought the short hair cut was cute…but recently I am not finding her face to be cute at all. I dont really like it when she wears the deep magenta lip color….and even without it I am still not liking it. This outfit is not working, after her pastie slip the other day you would think she would avoid malfunctions?
