Unfug It Up: Christa B. Allen

unfug-it-up

Hey, I was just talking about Revenge! I must have made Christa B. Allen here appear, a la Beetlejuice, by doing so:

She doesn’t look very happy to have been summoned, though. Maybe she is uncomfortable in the origami belt she’s wearing. It’s a cool object but it looks deeply uncomfortable. I don’t actually dislike this wholly — I think the pattern of the dress is cool, and I really like her lipstick, and I’m into the orange/pink combo. But something about it feels a little off to me. What do you think? Would you fix anything about this?

I think the dress is wearing her. I don’t know who she is but she looks too conservative. I think it needs to be worn by someone tall who can carry of the avant-garde look with more confidence. And better shoes.

Not a fan of how the belt/bodice is lopsided. If we could just replace that with something smaller, and black, I think we’d be in business.

Remove the partial straitjacket (and burn it), make the shoes green in the same family as that two-tone stripe on the dress, put the hair in a loose, low chignon, and add big showy bracelets and glittery earrings.

yikes. i don’t understand that “belt” that also covers her chest. i think this would probably be great if you just took that off, and made the dress a straight shift instead of whatever floaty hem thing is happening. and i would remove that weird line down the center of the part below the “belt” (is that a seam or just a weird effect of the pattern??). it’s making me think it’s a weirdly placed seam so it’s got to go.

No, no, no! That bow thing goes in the BACK!

Hair & makeup are nice, but the outfit is such a disaster that someone should call the Red Cross! I also like the color combination, but the silhouette, cut & fit are oh, so wrong… Victoria Grayson would not approve! Maybe a pair of scissors & some crazy glue would help, I’m sure the Red Cross carry them!

Burn the whole lot please: it hurts my eyes

The dress has potential with the origami belt removed – it gives her no waist. A normal sized black belt would be more appropriate. I would pick up on the fun green stripe with a similar color of shoes.

I can’t even figure out what part is the basic dress and what is the stupid add on’s. Strange mess.

Sweetsinger’s right–that’s an obi and the bow part is meant to be in the back. I love the idea of using it slightly out of context, but that would require a dress with cleaner, simpler lines and less confusing seaming/pattern. As it is, they’re fighting for attention.

Exactly. The obi and the dress are both striking statement pieces, which means that wearing them together is just overkill. Bad stylist! Bad, bad, stylist!

Removed the chest green line, the obi belt, and make the holding-the-purse side of the skirt look like it actually belongs with the other side of the skirt.

Hair and make up are great. The origami belt is actually pretty awesome in a bizzare way. It’s the dress I have issues with.

The asymmetrical obi is just fine – but it needs to be worn with a solid dress, not a pattern, and I think having her hair up would be a nice touch, too. You know, if we’re going “modern geisha” and all.

I agree, the print of the dress is ok, the nude pumps are an elegant choice but it still is a bit off. The reason is the asymmetrical orange bustier. If that would be straight the look would be very pretty! What do you think?

So, I adore the print on this dress. I die for stuff like this. And I could almost go there with the belt. Really. But it’s just a bridge too far. A simple black belt would work far better. As much as I love the fabric, the cut is a bit off. That seam down the front part of the skirt is giving me a headache behind my eyes, and I wish the top was cut in more of a tank with a scoop neck and bigger armholes rather than sleeveless. Or, if the thing is going to be cut sleeveless on the top, then it should be less floaty at the bottom–in other words, more of a shift silhouette, as others have said.

I think her hair and face are really pretty. Perfection.

If the belt were smaller I’d probably be on board. I love the print on the dress.

I’m with you. It’s too big and is swallowing her…make it smaller and give it a better fit and it could be interesting..

That was my first thought too – if the belt was smaller and defined her waist instead of taking over the boob area, I think this would be really cool and interesting. Hair & makeup – especially the lipstick – look awesome.

I’m with you too. The belt just needs to be smaller or swung around so the tall part is in the back, as a few have suggested. I love the prints/colors/shapes combo. And it could use edgier shoes; Helen’s suggestion of green works for me.

She lost a bet with Heidi Klum, didn’t she.

On a positive note, her makeup is fantastic. However, I 100% agree that the “belt” is crazy. I might actually be ok with it if it were oh, say, at least half it’s size. Egads.

    I dislike it wholly.

That dress with a different belt. Something smaller, and with a better fit.

That belt with another dress, something more form fitting…maybe one of those disastrous nudes that could work if given some chutzpah…. well, that belt has chutzpah to spare.

Ok,I just looked at the close up of those shoes!!! WTF! They are making her poor toes look so squished and ugly.
Now, maybe I’m a little out of the loop…but isn’t the idea of shoes ( even nude barbie feet shoes) to make your feet look pretty?

Ick the belt needs to go, the dress itself is ok… I’m not a fan of those shoes either. But SHE looks beautiful :)

It’s like if Picasso made a dress. You know, cut a regular dress up in pieces and then put it back together however. A Cubism dress. A statement that life is not static.

She maybe feel unhappy although she looks beautiful.

Cushions for an entire neighborhood of patios. There’s at least six or seven different patterns, prints, and colors, and not a darn one worth two hoots.

The dress is amazing. The person wearing it is wrong. This girl is too petite and too sweet and frankly boring looking. You need someone taller with attitude to…and I hate this word but….to WORK this. The KRUG could pull this off, you know it. Or Charlize, or any runway model really.

  26. Veronica

The belt would work if it wasn’t so enormous – cut a few inches off of it, and it would make a better accessory for the dress. My biggest problem with the outfit over all is that it’s definitely a case of the clothes wearing the person. She just doesn’t look confident in it, and for something that bold and interesting, it needs a lot of personality to combat it’s more overwhelming qualities.

That dress may EITHER have that belt or that pattern. Not both. Sorry, crazy dress, them’s the rules!

Wrong hair, wrong shoes. With such edgy dress, you need edgy everything else.

The dress is cool. But I agree that someone else could have worn it better. And with more fabulous shoes!

She looks great from the neck up. The rest of it should just go away.

Narrow the belt, and make the skirt sleeker, perhaps and A-line cut. I actually love the idea of this and think the pattern and color combination is very chic.

I love the dress and would love the belt if it was half the size it is. I’d also ditch the hooves, but I loathe platform shoes. I also love her hair. Very shiny!
