Unfug It Up: Emilie de Ravin

unfug-it-up

At first I thought Emilie de Ravin here played Sleeping Beauty on Once Upon A Time, so I was all ready with my cracks about how “sleep” was the operative word because this outfit was giving me narcoleptic fits. But then I did my homework and she is actually Belle, so I can still write a totally hacky introduction intimating that if she is the beauty, then perhaps this outfit is THE BEAST:

Let’s break this into pieces, which should be easy, as there is basically nothing holding this outfit together except basic physics. I don’t mind the cardigan, if it were with, say, a simple tank and skinny jeans. It doesn’t play well with the shoes, which are otherwise cute. The blouse is a dowdy transparent disaster that washes her out, and somehow, everything together looks wickedly inexpensive — like she expected to get mauled by Lost fans and ripped apart at the seams, so she just brought a hundred-dollar bill into Forever 21, closed that sucker down, and went on a rampage.

Maybe if the blouse were lined? But that still doesn’t fix the fact that it’s making her look sallow. Better makeup might help. And the closer I get to the jacket, the less I like it — up above I thought maybe it was sequins, just a touch of groovy sparkle, but up close it’s just a very ritzy cocktail jacket that clearly was custom-made to go with what the grandmother of the bride is wearing, and it got nicked when she got up to lead the conga line. I am pretty sure Sue Ellen Ewing owns one. And don’t get me wrong, I cherish Sue Ellen Ewing, but she’s got 40 years on Emilie. Let’s not be in a hurry to be seventy.

What would you do with these separates to make them feel like a whole?

Change the color of the shirt to a pastel-y teal. Keep the design of the shoes but in a dark teal. Good to go.

    keep the skirt, it’s cute
    burn the cardigan
change the shoes for some strappy sandals
    do something about her hair
    reassess the blouse

I like the skirt. With an Ivory T-Shirt I think this could have been a cute outfit.

Burn them all in the same barrel at the same time and start all over again. None of this works with any of the rest of it and nothing is particularly attractive on its own.

Agreed, I think this just a straight-up fug. Start over, Emilie.

I do like the shoes, and the belt, but for different outfits.

Yeah! My first instinct was to burn them, too.

Burn them all, but beware of toxic fumes from all the polyester!

Wow. That doesn’t even look like her.

      Odd isn’t it?

I know, she is uber-beautiful and in this shot she just looks tired, and weirdly wider-headed than usual. I think her eyes are just incredible, and she is doing not much for them with this look. She should NEVER wear that beige skincolor blouse, or anything that color, ever again.

Keep the skirt, ditch the cardigan and blouse. Add a cute print blouse and sandals. Maybe a little makeup and earrings, too. And comb that hair!

I think each piece could work… Each in a completely different outfit. So, keep the skirt, add a basic tank kind of thing and a more structured jacket, you can keep the grey if you like, but I’d do more in the browns or blues, and a cuter, lighter looking shoe. I’m thinking something with no platform and a peep toe.

She looks… different here. What is it? Something about her face and head. The hair is a problem. The outfit isn’t totally bad, but something is just “off” about the entire thing. I’m not even sure how to fix it!

Does it seem like her head is too big in preportion to the rest of her? The hair is also awful. She looked so much prettier on Roswell and Lost.

Something about that cardigan and the neckline of the blouse combined with her hair is camouflaging her neck.

The cardigan and the shoes, together, with jeans an a basic tank ( like black…but whatevs) would be a cute mixed metal look.
The skirt…. is pretty eh, but it’s the ‘in’ color and with a basic white ( or even a good yellow for kicks) T and some simple sandals would be summery cute.
    The belt must go.
    The blouse must be burned.

I love the shoes, skirt, and belt with golden edging, together or separate. I think she has a nice heavy camisole under that dreadful blouse, so scrap the blouse all together, it’s hopeless, and just go with the cami. Then, get her to the hairdresser, for hot oil treatment and a blow-out. The shimmery shrug is ridiculous, and should be burned along with the blouse.

Keep the skirt, it’s cute. The rest is tragic….
Sandals, summery tank, dump that mumsy cardigan and we’re good.

Mumsy is the word that came to my mind too. The proportions of the outfit and the unstructured cardy give her no waist and no neck. Maybe a structured scoop or v neck dress with a thicker belt in that nice steely/silvery color of the cardigan and either cobalt, red, or maybe emerald shoes? The girl needs shape…oh and a visit to the hairdresser.

I just don’t think anything can save this because it looks so cheaply made. The ideas are ok (not together) but they look very inexpensive.

This looks like a failed Home Ec project from 1978. Safety pin in the blouse? Elastic waist on the skirt? Did her mom make her wear that sweater because her shirt was too sheer?

    Oh honey, NO!.

Go home, do something with your hair, and put on an LBD.

This ensemble may have its limitations but I, for one, am grateful that Ms. de Ravin (1) is wearing clothes, (2) she is wearing a brassiere with said clothing, and, (3) any choices she has made for grooming her personal and private lady area remain private.

Ms. Lady GagGag: please take notes.

It needs sharpening up. Add a tailored black blazer instead of the cardigan, some sassy black pumps, a sleek updo, huzzah!

Keep the spangled cardie but wear it over a dress (if it’s black you’ll need makeup) that gives you a longer line (making you look thinner and taller maybe) and doesn’t cut you off midsection like the blouse and skirt.

And to think she was Rob Pattinson’s love interest in Remember Me.

And to think she was Rob Pattinson’s love interest in Remember Me.

Big accomplishment?… Maybe she took styling tips from him.

The hair is killing me. Did she walk of shame her way into this photo-op??

this is terrible, to be sure, but it really matches her recent resumĂ©. girl must have struggled to find a job after “lost”. how else do you explain a movie called “hulluna saaraan”? imdb calls it “love and other troubles”, but the aforementioned is the original title. it is a finnish movie, and everyone speaks finnish, i gather, except for emilie de ravin, obviously, who plays an american line-dancing teacher, obviously. i still haven’t watched it, but i have no doubt it is a glorious piece of fromage.

It looks like something a person might wear to a shitty office job towards the very end of the laundry cycle. So I guess it does look clean, I’ll give her that!

Keep the jacket, add a bright tank, some dark wash jeans, and strappy sandals. Then, give the poor girl a cup of coffee, a hairdresser, and some mascara.

Kind of like Kohl’s version of a “from work to cocktails” outfit. And she somehow matched that skirt to her lip color.

Wow she looks so different from Lost, does anyone feel that her face looks almost muscular compared to how she looked on Lost? She looks like her chin and jawline are much bigger or something…..

Oh me . . . another outfit put together from the Goodwill, piece by piece including shoes.
