It’s a gorgeous dress…if you’re a kicky and/or child bride. Otherwise, I think it’s kind of hard to pull off, no matter how ostensibly beautiful the dress (or you) are. Me, I’d….well, I’d start by giving the girl some different shoes. These are surely lovely, but they — and the bag — make her look like she’s just trying this dress on and showing us all for our thoughts before changing into the outfit she REALLY wore outside. How woulod you fix this? Or are you into it, just as it is?

I’m actually partial to the tool vomit, but I think the dress should only be worn socially in black. Any other color and it looks like a bridesmaid at a hipster wedding.
Theoretically, I don’t mind the shoes and bag with the dress, but I DEFINITELY mind the size of the dress. It looks like she’s trying on a little girl princess dress. Make it knee length and maybe tone down the volume of the tulle.

Kerry is hot, but this dress reminds me of something one of my high school students wore to prom. It just isn’t very sophisticated for a beautiful, intelligent woman over thirty. I suppose you could change the color to black/red/yellow/purple and get rid of the tule … and the shoes and the bag … but I think she’s better off scrapping this whole look and finding something better. Also, I’m SOOOOO TIRED OF THE NUDE MATTE LIPSTICK. It. is. not. good.
The dress is too short and too young. Tone down the bunch of net on top, lengthen slightly, and silver sandals.
I think girl needs to go up a size (though maybe it’s how she’s standing) and I’d give it a color like a nice royal purple, which would look better with the shoes and bag anyways

I think if it weren’t empire waist, but actually hit at her waist or a touch lower, it wouldn’t look so childish. Although, I would also change the color to avoid the bride look, maybe a metallic, this in a copper or silver could be awesome. Of course, it could also end up looking like she walked through a screen door and took the screen with her. Tricky!
Yeah, I’m for lengthening it – kneelength or a smidge lower and then stretch out and tone down the tulle so that it doesn’t do a shower poof thing… I do like the dress though. Her makeup is.. not good.
This needs to be a different color that isn’t white or pastel, or it will look too much like a bride or bridesmaid in some quasi-traditional wedding. I’m torn on the tulle. It could work in a jewel tone, but it still has this “girly that’s trying too hard to be girly” feel to it that does not appeal to me.
The shoes are simply not to my taste and I think that practically any cute, strappy heel would work if the colors were right. The clutch is almost too old looking for her. I don’t know. I guess it could be the photograph, but there’s something very “mother of the bride” about it, and looking at it gave me a sensory memory when I got a whiff of Chiclets gum from somewhere in the back of my head. They don’t stick to dentures you know.

To be honest, my first impression was that she can pull this dress off and she looks beautiful. My second impression is that it is a slutty wedding dress. But I really think she looks pretty.

I don’t think you need to change the color. Just get rid of the tulle and it’s great. The shoes are amazing I covet them, but the black is a little heavy for the look. If they were silver, the shoe wouldn’t look as cool, so you’d have to change the shoe completely. I suggest she just give them to me.

Any white/off-white dress in this floaty organza stuff is bound to scream BRIDAL, so I don’t think it had a chance. Change the color, to anything, and I think it would have worked. Also, maybe tea length, as her legs aren’t her best asset (sorry, I said it, I meant, get over it).

Apart from the accessories and colour, the proportions of the dress makes her look oddly stumpy and like her head is too big for her body. On that account, I think this is unsalvageable. and the hair and makeup just make it worse.

I love that dress, it is darling and appeals to my inner five year old. Maybe a nude shoe? I like the idea of having it in a champagne color. I am torn about her hair. If she puts it up she is headed even farther down the aisle to Brideland, but it needs something. A clip? A low ponytail? Something. You can’t have that much dress going on and hair that just lays there like a lazy dog.

The way the tulle is now, girl looks like an egg timer. Softly pleat tulle around the entire bodice for a soft frame and put the tulle on the bottom under the skirt for a slight flirty hemline. Another color but not jewel tone and not black – maybe a soft teal.

I think it could work if she had some totally cool, outrageous shoes in gold or silver, some really fun contemporary jewelry in the same colour, a sassy up-do, and some fun metallic eyeshadow in green or something. Then she needs to stand up straight. Because the key to working a dress like this is to have the right attitude. You need a posture that says “Yes, I am wearing a white cocktail dress with tulle. I felt like it. You got a problem with that?” As soon as you look uncertain the spell breaks and everyone will realise that you’re wearing a cocktail dress you made by cutting up a wedding dress you found at the Salvation Army store. You’re perfectly right about “bridal child”, it’s very “little girl with big basket of flowers walking in front of the bride”. First, I’d change the color. Maybe a pinkish or a yellowish shade would match perfectly her skin. Then, I would cut off that annoying tulle that covers almost her entire upper part. In fact, I’d get rid of all the tulle. Then, the length. It should be 3-4 inches longer in order to avoid her looking like she grew out of the dress. I guess the only thing that I like about it is that pearl embroidery and the fact that it’s strapless. And the accessories… should we open that topic now?! She has no necklace at a strapless dress! No earrings,no nothing. And the shoes and the purse… my fingers hurt so I’ll say no more.

Kerry Washington is beautiful, but squeezing herself into a five-year-old’s dress makes her look uncomfortable and clearly a lot bigger than she actually is. I’d swap the dress for one that fits properly, take off most of the crazy tule and swap the shoes and handbad for something silver and strappy. I’d also give her lipstick with a touch of colour and pull her hair back into a classy bun. There…much better!
I would take it off her (and maybe give her some other clothes) then hand it over – nay wrap it up in layers of pink tissue paper, organza ribbons and paper flowers, and send it to my sweet little cousin Amna who would have a whale of a time playing dress-up with her little friends.
