Hideous and cannot be saved. Looks like a dress worn to a semi formal back in 1986 . The length isn’t so good her (her knees look really knobby). And if you’ve got the kinda hair that won’t go back in nice smooth pony or chignon, you better off leaving it down and showing off those waves and curls. Here, her hair kinda looks like mine does when I have slept in a pony and then have to get up at 5:30 in the morning to take the dogs out.

Hate to disagree, but I love this dress. It is hard ehen one is past 40 to do cute without looking like you are wearing your daughter’s frock. I think this works. The jewelry and shoes are horrible with it, and she needs to brush her hair, but methinks the dress is super-cute.

It would be nice if the shoes and necklace didn’t clash with the dress, wouldn’t it? I also wish the angularity of SJP’s body didn’t fight so much with the tulle (which is very pretty). I think a dress this busy wants a softer body type, so the curves balance out the severity of detail.
I think this dress would be PERFECT on someone like Ginnifer Goodwin. SJP is old enough now that babydoll dresses (or anything with a similar silhouette) look ridiculous on her, but on GG, it would be interesting and fun.

actually the overlay on this dress is mostly lace, not tulle. i think both the tulle at the sleeves and the lace overlay are fine. the dress is cute and she is working it. i agree that shoes and hair could have been better but i think the jewelry works.
I agree with Lina. The dress itself is too angular. If there is one thing SJP should avoid at all costs, it is additional angles.
Give her a crystal ball and a dark tent and she can tell fortunes at the county fair. Hopefully that will give her enough pocket money for a corn dog or two, because the best fix for this outfit would be to gain about ten pounds.
I, too, like the dress. I would’ve maybe have done either fancier hair or more casual makeup. Also, I do love the colors between the dress and the accessories, but I would’ve worn more delicate jewelry.
SJP, leave the tulle in the box. It does not belong on anyone who doesn’t shop at Gymboree…and even then it’s questionable. The stuff is uncomfortable, not to mention you look like your draped in prom decor.

The length combined with that silhouette just aren’t working for her – the dress as-is looks like it was intended for and would be adorable on a girl 30 years younger and an inch or two shorter. The accessories are doing nothing for it, either.
I love the dress from the inverted v under the bust up. Move the hem an inch or two in either direction, and maybe either get rid of the overlay or pull it taut like the tulle on the shoulders. I feel like a slimmer skirt, like a sheath, would be more generic but less atrocious,and then the necklace would compete less with the dress and she could funky it up even more with an awesome shoe (I do NOT understand the shoe choice at all).
OK, as a curly-haired person I feel I should step in and defend the hair – yes, more effort could/should have gone into it, but this is also what most curly hair looks like when it is NOT fresh out of the shower. And if it was humid, she was already fighting a losing battle! There is no brushing of curly hair, FYI. But yes, ponytail, not the best look for the occasion.
The dress doesn’t bother me, exactly, it’s something about the whole package at once… I like the shoes but they do seem to clash.

I love messy updos, they’re flattering to many people, and god knows we can all can do with something flattering on our person when we trudge our aging asses out the door to face the world.
But the tulle, no. So often, as here, it seems the designer looked at the completed dress, thought ‘omg, let’s slap some foofy tulle or lace on it, see if that helps’. It doesn’t. But then the deadline is here, and the dress has to be shipped as-is.

I actually love the dress, but the mismatching shoes and secondary school hippy arts and crafts teacher type necklaces could be dropped. The dress is really not that bad, but I can’t get past her knobby knees. And sister Carrie needs to do that cross one foot over the other dealie, because this pose is just hideous.

I think the solution is to remove the tulle shoulder part and make it strapless, then do something else with her hair and makeup, because frankly I think the hair and makeup are a big part of the problem here.
If the hair looked less ratty and the makeup looked like she’d actually applied some, the dress would look much less dowdy even without any alteration. The poor woman looks like she just got out of bed, and is still wearing the same eyeliner she put on the night before.

Yes, this dress is reminiscent of early 90′s prom wear. Yes, the tulle might be a bit much. However, the dress isn’t the problem here. While this is not necessarily a dress I would choose, it’s not that horrible, and could be very cute on the right person. Not a lot of people wear this shade of red and they should, so that creates a bit of a bias for me.

THERE IS NO USE complaining about anything this woman puts on. She will put on youthful, pouffy little frocks until she is old and gray (which is probably now) because that’s what she thinks is eye-catching or attractive. Even though that cute dress above points out her horrid knobby knees. She is a classic case of Mutton Dressed As Lamb, because that’s where her head is at. Poor thing looks in the mirror and thinks “I look pretty”. Everyone else looks at her and thinks “too young, fluffy and girlish”. Honestly, I think she forgot she had an event to attend… came running in from a session at the gym, hair all messy and in a ponytail, reached into the depths of her (very large) closet, threw on whatever her hand landed on. Then she proceeded to run to her shoe room (’cause you know she’s got a shoe ROOM) and picked up the pair closest to her without entering the room, and with one final stop at her accessory wall, pulled off a necklace and then ran out the door, doing her eye makeup in the car.

I think the dress is very pretty and I like the contrast of the necklace. The shoes read too orange, while the dress is more of a blue based red. I think SJP isn’t nearly as cute as she thinks she is and hasn’t been for a long time. Now she looks haggard and drag queen-ish and her clothes choices just make it worse. This dress is prom like, but not irredeemably so, but it needs to be on someone with some body fat and that SJP dismissed years ago when she decided to keep her boney ass intact.

First of all, her jewelry and shoes have nothing to do with that dress. Now for the dress. Tear off the bottom and make it fitted instead, and bring it down to just below the knee. Add some jewelry and shoes that actually match and it’s perfect. Love the top and the fabric.

I’d say scrap the tulle over the lower half of the dress and streamline it more. It flares out around the hips, which can appear romantic and feminine, but with the black overlay, it’s just too much – the way it cuts across the bodice gives the illusion of width.
Personally, I’d have gone with a more sedate collar with the shoes, but they’re otherwise fine. The jewelry is fine; I like the sharp, emerald jewel tones of the necklace, and getting rid of the “excess” on the dress would keep it from feeling overwhelming.
How about an actual hairstyle? Scraped back is too severe. She needs something that recalls the 40s and 50s so it goes stylistically with the dress, which is vintage in it’s nature. Pare down the accessories – one necklace (take off the longer one), one bracelet (keep the chunky one). And the shoes don’t match – so get some matching shoes – something with a BIT of old Hollywood glitz instead these crappy looking things. Leave the dress as is. LASTLY, slick on a good, glossy red lipstick. Done.

I like the dress ok, but she does kinda look like she pulled an all-nighter and wound up at a kegger in Reseda circa 1990 where she wound up drinking jugle juice and doing jello shots, then threw her hair up in a pony tail before calling her friend to pick her up at 6am. Or…..something random that totally NEVER happened to me.

I usually strongly disagree with most things that SJP wears, but in this case, I wouldn’t change a thing. Ok, yes I would – the shoes. I don’t get those shoes with that dress. Love the shoes, love the dress. Together? Not so much. But this is SJP we’re talking about, I say “home run!”
I think the dress is probably great as-is; it would have been given a chance to shine if she hadn’t been so haphazard with her hair and jewelry.
