So, on her Twitter yesterday, LC here said that the dress she was supposed to wear to the MTV Movie Awards came back from the tailor and didn’t fit. I don’t know if she managed to make it work, or if this was something she’d held in reserve just in case of tailoring emergencies, or what happened. Either way, I think we can all agree that something isn’t quite right:
I’ve been looking at this for twenty minutes and I am not quite sure how I’d fix it. For me, the ruffly skirt bit reminds me a bit of topiary — like this is the dress version of a box hedge. And while box hedges are lovely in your garden, they are not necessarily flattering on one’s body. If I could wave my magic de-fugging wand over Miss Lauren (last night WAS her final appearance on The Hills, so it seems like she deserves some kind of going-away present), I suspect I would keep this as it is, but find a way to make the skirt look less SQUARE. Because, CONCEPTUALLY, it’s sort of fun and flirty, but in practice she looks like she’s brought her own tuffet to the party. But hit me with your best shot — what would you do to fix it?

I would probably start by chopping off about a foot of that over-processed bleach blonde hair. I think it’s a problem when your hair spans a width greater than your body.
It’s too shiny. It might work in a more matte fabric….maybe. And perhaps on someone with more….personality?
The colour scheme is nice but the fabric looks cheap, the cut is basically beyond help, and the shoes don’t match.
LC, do yourself a favour and start over!

And, the colors are just hideous. The top reminds me of those satiny baby tees that I used to buy in 1995.
I like her hair (It’s kind of “Eve in the Graden of Eden” esque, don’t you think?), but I rather feel let down by everything else. How to fix it is to give her a different dress and shoe combo to wear entirely. Hopefully the other dress that the tailor tore looked fabulous. I can dream, can’t I?
The hair! The hair! THAT is the major problem! It’s dry and brittle and looks like it has been in a pony tail/braid combo all day and she just remembered to take it out for the red carpet. And why must it all be in FRONT of her shoulders? What is she hiding??? Maybe the outfit is even worse that it appears because we can’t even see the top half. She needs a cut and a hot oil treatment and THEN we can focus on the outfit.
First, I’d rip those ratty extension out of her hair. As for the dress, pull off that shower pouf on the bottom and use the bodice as a top over jeans. Other than running home to change, that’s about all I can think of to save this.

It appears too short and ill fitted at the top. Her pose isn’t helping as the knock-knee, slight slouch is emphasizing the awkward lines of the dress.

I agree about the horrible hair. The dress isn’t great, but the bright-bright lipstick and the fried Barbie-hair are the real problems here.

I agree with the above comments about her hair, if it were shorter she wouldn’t look so short herself. As for the dress, maybe in a different color, I think it would be better in a blue.
I find myself too distracted by her ratty extensions to even focus on the weird dress. She must use Shenae Grimes’ hairstylist.
Forcing myself to look beyond the horse tail hair, I think this is one of those looks that is interesting as a piece of art on the runway. However, when put worn in real life on a non-model it just looks ill-proportioned and (as Simon Cowell would say) indulgent. I’d scrap it and start over. After fixing the hair.
I think it’s fine. It’s a fun dress on a cute young girl. It’s age appropriate and sexy without being vulgar. It’s not terribly fashion forward but it works for me. I suppose if I changed anything I might choose different colors (dark red and grey are sort of gloomy) and I might go with a less boxy skirt, but overall I think it works just fine.
I think the colors are really nice on ol’ LC. The gray-blue is similar to her eye color, and the red picks up on her lipstick. Usually I don’t like matching one’s make up to one’s dress, but in this case I think it works. I agree with Jessica, that the skirt is too square – it makes her legs look chunky or something. I also think the shoes are all wrong. With better shoes and a different line to the skirt, I think this could be quite cute.
The dress is beyond my imaginary dressmaking skills. But please, somebody, widen those shoes and turn them into little boots or something! I can’t look away from those squashed toes!
The dress could be cute as is. Although I might agree that the skirt needs to be somehow altered. But the hair, the hair!! Her hair is horrific!!! With all the stylists they have available, I really-really don’t get why someone (i.e. a celebrity) would go out with her hair looking like mine on a bad hair day. One word: ponytail.
I agree – the hair is the thing to focus on.
But I also dislike the shoes, and even though I don’t care for these colors, I think the whole things would have been better with less ruffles.

I’d give her a haircut. The ends on those extensions are breathing a death rattle that can be heard alllll the way over here.
I agree with everyone else who said they’d cut the extensions out of her hair, or at least give them some life by making them more Taylor Swift-esque… lots of body & movement in large soft curls. Also, dark eyes with dark lipstick NEVER works. She needs to tone down something on her face & reduce her shine (I think she may have overdid it on the highlighter).
I think I’d be happier with the entire dress if there were a couple more layers of the topiary. I think it would look less square and change her posture to keep her from standing like she’s avoiding showing her hoo-ha.
Those 3 things I think would make a HUGE improvement.
I’m sorry, but this is too far gone to be unfugged. The color is awful, the shiny cheap-looking fabric is awful, the skirt is ridiculous. Even the shoes and the makeup are bad. This is a jumbo serving of trashy heaped on a plate of fug.
I suggest she conditions her hair and finds shoes that match…. then maybe the dress wouldn’t look so god awful.
The shoes need to go–they chop her off at the ankles. The hair absolutely needs to change, and I think the dress would be OK if the skirt was looser and just a smidge longer.

I think the hair is the greatest mistake made here. She’s not interesting enough to pull off anything remotely “rocker” like and her ‘do seems an attempt at that. Second biggest mistake made are the shoes…
I think this dress might be too fugly to be saved. But is it just me or does she kind of look like Christina Applegate circa Married With Children? And looking like Ms. Applegate is a high complement, but looking like you stole her wardrobe from a 1990s sitcom is not!
I say she needs shorter hair, lighter lip color, and strappier shoes.
UGH! It’s just all SO MUCH. The messy, straggly hair, the shiny, the blue with red with ruffles with black shoes… take it EASY, woman! I think she needs to scrap the whole thing. There’s no where to start with fixing. It’s just blue and red and fug all over.
I put her hair up, add a crop jacket that gives her some shoulder to balance out the wide hips, and a necklace and some bracelets. Finally, some sandals that don’t stumpify her legs and a lessen on how to stand up straight.
For me, the shiny fabric kills any seriousness this garment may have. It looks like overstretched pantyhose. Should’ve just kept it at a luxe, matte black fabric.
I’m also cosinging on statements regarding her hair. I once attempted to use a curling iron on my Totally Hair Barbie’s locks, and the result was similar to.
I actually don’t think it’s that bad – my ca. 1990 self would have totally been all over that dress. The shoes, however, are wrong and the hair would be much better about 6″ shorter.
The shoes are cute, but ridiculous with that dress. It’s as if she only looked in a bathroom mirror instead of a full length one and thought she was good to go. I can’t get past the shoes yet and half the dress is covered with hair.
It’s all awful. The hair is seriously ugly, the dress is 8th grade dance circa 1980 and the shoes are bad…at least with the shower scrub dress they are bad. I don’t know, maybe if she cut off all those awful extensions and then put on completely different makeup, added some strappy sandals that didn’t compete with the dress and then used good posture she MIGHT look ok. But just ok.
1) Do SOMETHING about that hair.
2) The skirt is fine, it’s the shoes that are making her legs look chunkier than they are… maybe a nice strappy sandal.
3) I think if the top was a solid color it would help. Also, I’d change the neckline. With all that horrible hair hanging in front, it’s hard to tell what the actual construction of te dress is. (I’m guessing spaghetti straps.)I’d make it strapless and straight across the top.
Good concept – Bad bad fabric. The white squiggly line thingy down the front is of concern. I thought this child had her own fashion line at some point, no?
I don’t think the ruffles are so much the problem as the unfortunate area in which they fall. That is NOT where you’d want to look wider. I’d make the dress slightly longer, so the ruffles hang around her thighs (not butt/hips) and change to some less aggressive shoes.
Maybe the dress would look better if the bodice just kept going and replaced the ruffle-thingy and you could change the color scheme a la sleeping beauty. Then definitely fix the hair. Makeup’s not bad, actually.

I think the skirt and her hair are the least of her problems. The fabric and color are terrible. It would be better in a solid color (there is enough going on there, maybe a bright, and a matte material.
I actually think it’s a cute dress, except that it would look a lot better if the top half was black.
I think part of the problem is that the skirt starts WAY too far down on her waist, making her hips look wide and her legs look short. If the skirt were moved up a little, deflated a bit, and she wore simpler shoes, that would help A LOT.
And, of course, getting rid of those ratty extensions. And maybe subtler makeup – there’s way too much going on here.
The top of the dress is just so tank-top-ish. It seems like whoever designed it mistakenly thought the fabric choice would make up for lack of originality in the cut. And then stapled on that really odd tulle cloud of a skirt.
I agree, if the ruffles were less square, it’ll be more fun and express the seemingly desired message.
The shirt part should be more skirt-y. Like flowy and fun.
The bouffy part of her skirt starts either too high or too low. It’s right across the widest part of her body and makes her look a lot wider than is probably the case. Plus the ruffles are too bunchy and the red splotches look like she spilled melted candle wax in her lap. So make the whole thing the steel grey of the top, lengthen the skirt, loosen the ruffle and start the ruffle further down. And burn the shoes. I’ve found better things on sale for half off at Dillards.
My main issues are the colors and the material.
The colors are… eh. Grey and red can work together. Black and red *do* work together. But this combination just makes the upper half look sort of faded. Plus those big red flowery bit on the top need to go far far away.
As for the material, there’s a reason satin and satan sound so similar. The wrinklyness of the top is just profoundly unflattering and makes her look hunched. The hair helps with that illusion.
So my diagnosis for unfugging this would be:
1- Make the top a solid black matte fabric.
2- Hack out the extensions or invest in conditioner or an up-do or something. Hair should never make one look stumpy.
3- Replace the torture devices on her feet with a nice classic pair of glossy red pumps. what has happened to the glossy red pump? Is Dita Von Teese the only one still aware of their power? shame.
4- Stand up straight young lady and stop doing that wonky thing with you leg.
The hair really gets in the way. Needs a different style and certainly doesn’t belong on each side.
The top is all wrinkly in the middle. That can’t be any good. I don’t like the grey, but that could be just me.
As for the skirt, the ruffles make her hips look wide. Her profile is like a bell, which really isn’t her shape. So the problem isn’t ruffles per se, it is that the ruffles are so aggressive that they ruin her shape. Tone it down.
So, in order:
1. New skirt
2. New hair
3. New blouse.
P.S. Lose the bitch-face. A girl can always smile nicely, can’t she?
Lose the ruffles. Yuck. They just don’t go with the sleeker upper half of the dress at all. It looks like she tacked it on to cover up a huge rip or something. The colors are kind of hideous too.
I’d change the color. The weird, almost tye-dye-esque bodice and the rose-tipped gray skirt just aren’t doing it for me. Gray to black instead of gray to red, or even a bit of silver.
And it does seem slightly large — I want the skirt to fit better and maybe be just a touch shorter, slightly more ballerina-y.
I wonder what the shoulders look like.
It’s the bodice that leaves me cold. Not only is it suffering from a horrible color + pattern affliction, it’s shiny and taffeta-like in the worst way possible. Give me matte and another color/design combo (even, perhaps, a solid?!?) and then we could talk.
And a big “Amen” to the shout-outs about those sad, sad hair extensions. Come on, LC. You can do better.
I think the problem is… it’s not LC. It is essentially a cute dress, but not her. And her hair is somewhat disgusting! The extensions are much too long and it appears as if she didn’t even try to do her hair. I really like LC too…
The hair needs to go first. Cut and style! Then change the colors of the dress to something lighter and more attractive on her. Then make the whole thing longer because she looks like she is hunching over to prevent an overshare. Some lighter shoes wouldn’t hurt either.
I’m totally over Hollywood’s obsession with ratty long hair, either real or via extensions. Jeez people, get a haircut, the lot of you. A lot of these generic ‘starlets’ would look at lot better with some kind of sharp, shorter do, rather than the cookie-cutter heavy-layers-worn-over-the-shoulders do. Have you realised that just about every ‘starlet’ under 30 (and a good few above that age, who should know better) has the same damn haircut, with optional bangs? It’s called diversity folks, look into it.
The dress is fine, just not on her. It’s a model’s dress. She looks like a model’s six-year-old, playing around in mommy’s closet.
I think she just misunderstood the outfit. The bottom half of the “dress” appears to in fact be a giant scrunchy, that her stylist was suggesting she wear to pull back that mass of “Barbie my mom let me take to the pool every day when I was four until the hair broke into little grains of rice and blew away” hair. Rip off the scrunchy part, pull back the hair and put the tube toppy part with a cute little mini.
What is the print on the bodice? It’s like a lightening bolt, shaped like a ghost. It’s effin’ weird.

Her hair is too fuzzy. It’s typically smooth and lovely, so I don’t know what happened here. And the dress just needs to go. No fixing that mess.
It looks likes someone absently picked up a piece of chalk and drew a meandering line down her bodice. It cuts the look in half in a weird way and is very distracting.
The fabric wouldn’t look so shiny or so cheap if the dress fit. Loosen it a bit, make the skirt longer and flared, and reduce the ruffle by about 2/3.
That squiggly grey line running down the bodice looks like she picked up the fabric from the wet ground beneath the clothes line, kind of like the a puddle with fertilizer and pollen in it (I worked in my garden all weekend).
To continue the garden analogy, the red flowers look like the shredded peony my 2 year old left wilted on the hot driveway asphalt.
I don’t think there’s any hope for something like this. It looked bizarre in 1989 and looks hopeless in 2009.
On the plus side, it would be like dragging around your own puffy pillow (very comfortable for long awards shows.)

Just looking at the top half of this dress looks like she’s wearing a ratty tank top to a metal show circa 1986. Pair it with some acid wash jeans, and she’d be good to go (20+ years ago). But the skirt doesn’t match that look at all. The shape of the dress isn’t bad, but it’s girly, so I think a girlier color or jewel tone would work. Like if I imagine it in an emerald green or navy blue, I can picture it being not so bad.
But seriously – that hair. For as much money as she’s paying for any number of stylists, you’d think someone would have the sense to cut those nasty extensions.
Cut off that ratty hair, or at least make it look like she cares.

If you move your screen up so that you can only see the top part (before the skirt), it actually looks interesting and cute.
The flirty ruffled skirt contrasts with the rocker crimp look she is going for with the hair. If the bottom was fitted like the top and ended a little above the knee, that would improve the look a lot. About the hair, I think it’s that she didn’t commit to the look enough – it needs to be more crimped or she needed to go in a different direction.
The shoes also aren’t the greatest choice, but in terms of the outfit, the least of her problems.
Those hair extensions are Brett Michaels-worthy.

I feel like this is something I would have worn to my eighth grade dance. Especially with the hair. The hair makes it look like once she realized her dress didn’t fit she tore through her closet looking for something, anything she could wear, and by the time she had finally decided on that particular dress, she didn’t have time do do anything but straighten her hair. And to top it all off, the she couldn’t find a bra that wouldn’t show underneath the dress, so she used her hair to hide the bra straps or something.
Yes, good news, this can be fixed!

My problem lies with the skirt. With that much ruffle it can only work if it starts above or below the hips. If it falls only around the hips, like in this case, you have yourself a portable tuffet.
My solution would be to bring the start of the ruffles below her posterior, and layer them. Starting with short ruffles and working out from there, finishing slightly above the knees.
Also, the pattern reminds me of the album cover from Metallica’s Ride The Lighting, which kind of saves it from being fug for me.
Know your personal style. This would look great on Rihanna. This girl needs pleats and a cardigan.
I’m thinking that we decrease the length of the ruffly part by half and make the bodice of the dress longer to compensate. That way the ruffle is more of a border on the bottom that has some volume and not a huge cloud.
And then Kristin Cavallari attacks her with a pair of scissors and cuts that scraggly mop.

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but my god that hair!!! Combined with the super harsh makeup, I wouldn’t be able to tell this was LC if nobody told me.
I think the reason the skirt looks so off is that it just sits so far below the waist. Maybe if the ruffly skirt started at her hips and was knee-length, it would be a little more sleek.
Also, make the bodice look less like the ratty T-shirt I wear to do yardwork.
I actually really like this outfit, but I feel like her hair is WAY too frizzed out. Fix the hair and I’m happy!

Seriously though…why did you pick this to un-fug? Even if you could ignore the tragedy going on from LC’s neck up, the dress is completely unfixable. Ugly color, cheesy 90s silhouette, and frankly — as she is not 12 — too young for her.

I’m more concerned about the hair. It almost connects with the skirt part. It looks terrible.

To improve the dress: make the body of the dress about 4-6 inches longer and reduce the number of ruffle layers. Also, I don’t like that fabric; it doesn’t photograph well; but I suppose we’re trying to imagine reworking the actual dress pictured above. Sigh.

okay. I admit the colours look nice on lauren. but the ruffles are not goood. essh. just make it into a mini, sleek and straight, that be nicerr. also kinda boring but nicer. and her hair wud look 10x better straight or wavy, not in between.
This whole look is frightful!! (I love that word) The fabric looks like it was ripped from a chaise lounge in a tella-novella whorehouse, with hair and makeup to match. Not to mention that she looks miserable in it as well.

I actually like the idea of the dress — I just hate the colors on her. Lauren especially needs to stay away from red lipstick, because it really ages her face. Not cute. If the dress had different colors and if she didn’t wear red lipstick, she’d look totally cute. Also, if she got better extensions or NO extensions, she would look way better.
First of all, please do something about that hair. Cut like, 10 inches off, then try deep conditioning or a hot oil treatment or SOMETHING. It looks like straw!!
As for the dress, I agree that there aren’t really any little tweaks that would make it better. My first thoughts upon seeing it were “saucy French maid costume”. And what’s with the weird red spots? Maybe just a classic black sleek mini dress would be better – boring, yes, but better.
I think the reason the look is so odd, is that it is so un-LC. Shouldn’t she be wearing a navy halter dress with an empire waist and no sign of visible footwear? Then we wouldn’t notice that her lipstick is too dark and that there was a BOGO sale at the extensions store.
I’m not crazy about the dress, but mostly because it looks like she pulled off the rack at Forever 21. Is that really what she was going for? It just looks cheap, and I bet it was far from that.
What bothers me the most is the her hair. Cut it, please! It just looks ratty and disgusting.
I’m with the majority of the other commentators on this one when I say, the hair has got to be fixed. Take out the extentions and give it some solid treatment. It just looks so brittle!
As to the dress, I think the only way to fix it is to get rid of the ruffle and turn it into a pretty, long tank top… to be paired with some skinny jeans and potentially better shoes. The actual dress might look better one size bigger as well… it seems to be clinging all wrong.

Agree with her hair. Not so good. Maybe she was too busy messing with her dress issue to fix it!
1) Restrain the mane. I don’t care if it gets cut or not, but it has to be off the front of the dress.
2) Cleanse the colors. I like what I think of as “mud” tones, but there’s too much contrast here at the same time as there’s too much mud. Maybe if the top was one of the two colors from the bottom.
3) Lengthen the look. If the frou-frou were more… restrained and the top was longer and kind of floating on top of it? Also, previous comments about posture/scrunching of the top are correct. Stand up straight, and get either a more fitted or a more relaxed fit up there. The shoes would work better if she stood up straight as well. Maybe she really doesn’t like heels?
I would add full-length sleeves of exactly the same ruffles, and cast her in Strictly Ballroom. Anyone?
What if the ruffled portion of the skirt were only about half as long? Mayhaps that would make the skirt look less boxy. Better posture might help, too.
I actually like the lipstick. If that stupid hair was pulled back I think it would look much nicer. Seriously, what’s up with three-quarters of Hollywood having fake hair? It kind of weirds me out.
Cut off the fake hair! It looks like she has actual natural hair to close to her shoulders. Something between collarbone and chin would be so much better. Wipe off the lipstick and get her to stop standing pigeon toed. If all that were fixed I might not even care about the fugly shiny dress.
Considering the event is the MTV movie awards, I think the dress is pretty darn cute. But I would definitely do something about her hair and change her shoes. The hair is an over-processed mess. It reminds me of Kelly Bundy. And the shoes are too clunky and heavy.
I keep staring at this dress’s bodice, at what looks like a chalk outline of a dead woman wearing a long ball gown. (Is this a Rorscharch test?) The only thing I can think is to chop off the ruffles, extend the whole thing floor-length, and cover it with a layer of sheer black fabric to make her look like less of a crime scene.
The hair has to go. I can’t even see the rest of the dress! The shoes are to bulky for such a flirty dress. If she would stand up straight with her shoulders back, that might help quite a bit. It’s the little things.

Can I just say that I am mildly amused and surprised to see LC attempting anything that’s not boring? The color scheme and strong lipstick are totally out of her comfort zone, which is an interesting development, but I’m not entirely sure she’s pulling it off.
Mostly because of the hair and shoes, as everyone here has mentioned. I like bed-head and think it can be pulled off well, but here, it’s just undone and kinked in funky places. It reminds me a bit of the Whitesnake days of yore. (Dating myself there…)
The shoes are just strange. I get the trend of dominatrix-style, bold shoes, but these look too clunky and maybe not high-heeled enough for this application. Something more delicate and strappy would have served just fine.
Plus: wouldn’t some jewelry have looked nice?
Okay, her hair is hideous. But these dress is equally so. I had to wear a bridesmaid dress once that was heavy royal blue satin…in August. There was sweating involved. After the wedding, I threw the ugly dress into a box and up into the attic. A year later, going through the box I found the dress and the sweat stains had turned into nasty white marks that looked EXACTLY LIKE THE FRONT OF LAUREN CONRAD’S DRESS.
I think I’ve made my point. The dress is Fug.

I think that if it were in a more fun, solid color, like a jewel tone…and not so much makeup…something less frizzy and strange with her hair. I think its more her in the dress, than the dress itself.

Someone gave her this dress to wear and she was all, “F**k it, if it makes you money, sure,” and she threw on a pair of shoes and went. This was far from being the biggest night of Miss Lauren’s life.

I’d do something with the hair. It looks like she just went swimming and let it air dry. It’s totally disheveled. I’d also go for a matte material. The shiny material is not working. I don’t like the pring as well, so I’d change that. If the dress looked a little more fashion forward and not so cheap I think I’d like the ruffles. I dunno, this really might just be a lost cause. If I were her, I’d scrap the look and start from scratch….
I can’t even see the dress for the awful hair. It is just so long and drab and dry and blah. The shoes are way to chunky for the dress. She needs to stand up straight and stop slouching like she knows she looks as bad as she does. I think if she did these things, the dress would be okay.
I say change it to some other material with polkadots on it.

I think at the moment this is making her look a bit hippy. It’s pulled right around her waist going down to her hips and it’s a bit too much, especially with the big ruffle skirt popping out, which seems to accentuate the hippyness.
I would shorten the torso of the dress a bit so it stops hugging her at the hips so much and stops at the waist or thereabouts. Then make the ruffle skirt less poofy and more a series of layers.. in that same light fabric. But each layer would be long-ish, one layer of fabric per layer. So it was more soft and delicate.
Alternatively, if the torse of the dress went all the way down and there was no poof skirt, she could pull it off as a mini dress as her figure looks like it could handle it.
Also, her hair is a bit messy ish? Nice hippy look but not for the red carpet. Bit tidier would of been better.

Although I am the first to rag on the reappearance of the ’80s in fashion, the dress actually doesn’t bug me that much. It brings back fond memories of my favorite dress in 1989 that had that exact shape and skirt, but with about 16 different neon colors splashed on, topped with a “Chiquita Banana” tank top.
That all being said, someone REALLY needs to help her out and chop off those ratty cheap looking extensions. Then maybe we can talk.
I just don’t think there’s any fixing this one, although her face is looking very Christina Applegate to me right now for some reason. I don’t know if LC should be thrilled that she looks like a legitimately famous and lovable person, or if la Applegate should worry that she looks like an inexplicably famous person, or if la Applegate should just be thrilled that I think she looks lovely and young even after her cancer ordeal.
UGH, yes, the hair is the thing that smacked me over the head. I would like to see the top without it. Dresses like this always make me think “Gunne Sax prom” but I appreciate the color scheme to tone it down. Nix the sheen and give her something INTERESTING with her head and I’ll say “feh.”
Definitely fix the hair! Put it up or something, I dunno. Also, lose the drop waist, there are very few women that look flattering in a drop waist dress. Get rid of the red flowery bits or whatever and possibly change the shoes too. And a less intense colored lipstick.
I HATE when she tries to wear that lip color. It does NOT work on her at all. I was watching last night when she stepped out on the red carpet and I actually said out loud “oh no LC! what in heavens are you wearing?!?” It could of possibly been fixed if she:
a. got rid of those extensions. FAST.

First and foremost – THE HAIR! What is going on with her hair??? The extensions are awful, they must go, and it should be pulled back. I think she looks so boxy because you can’t see the top half of her torso! If we could see her shoulders and chest, she’d look more curvy.
Second – there should be less “rows” of ruffles and they should start lower. I think this would help with the curves again, as we’d be able to see a silhouette of her hips.
Also, what is that weird white line snaking up the bodice? Is that light reflecting? If not, get RID of that. If so — maybe make the fabric less reflective?

Not a damn clue what to do about the dress but if I saw her in the bathroom at this event I would club her over the head with my clutch, drag her into a stall, and FIX WHAT SHE DID TO HER HAIR. This dress could be such a great combination of cute and sexy it it was made from a smoother, heavier fabric. If it was in a deep navy or royal blue heavy matte satin, it would look sleeker and the petals on the skirt would stay pointy-petal shaped, not bouffant like this godawful sat-upon tulle.
A deep blue would also make her hair look much more classy (but not as fabulous as a shoulder length bob with the ends teased rock-chick style would, however).
Bad Hair! Bad Make-up! UGLY dress!
First, ditch the bad extensions. Second, a lighter shade of lipstick and better eye-shadow. Third, the dress…..ugh! The top would possibly be cool with, say, a pair of jeans, well, cuz it’s a t-shirt! Other than fire, nothing can save it as a dress. Really! Looking at it up close, it’s beyond help. The shoes are kinda funky cool, so that’s the only thing I’d keep.
So… I didnt love this, and especially in the tv coverage, you couldnt even see the pattern so it just looked sort of blah and weird. But with Lauren, and all of the hills girls… LOOK HOW GOOD THEIR HAIR LOOKS! All the time. Lauren has DREAM hair, Audrina’s gets progressively better, and even Lo’s is looking hotttt lately. So wear what you want. If I had Lauren’s hair, I’d go naked.

The shoes, the shoes, the shoes. What are those? Oxfords? Something cute and strappy and feminine to go with the dress. Some jewelry, a sparkly bracelet or two. Then pull her hair up and away so we can see the dress and her shoulders.
Why have women stopped fixing their hair?
The whole thing is making her look fatter and shorter then she actually is…I don’t always like what LC wears but she usually does better than this. I would suggest burning the dress and getting a haircut. I assume doing both of these things will make her feel much better, there by removing the salty expression she’s wearing.
How to fix this? Get rid of it entirely and put her in something else. There is no fixing this.
Also, cut her hair, get her a nice hot oil treatment for the hair, blot the face, lighten up the lipstick, and I still hate bootie shoes no matter how they may be disguised.

I am so overwhelmed by how similar she looks to Christina Applegate circa Married with Children that I cannot comment on the outfit. Come to think of it, Kelly Bundy would probably have worn that outfit.
I am with everyone who says it is all bad. Bad shoes, bad hair, bad dress. What is the top part of that dress made of? Moire? Moire is a fabric usually reserved for soft furnishings in old lady living rooms, not red carpet dresses…or any dress for that matter.
Well, I would start with WASHING THOSE SALTSTAINS off…
It’s the hair that is the problem. If it were shorter and less gross, or even just simply *styled* the whole shebang would be much improved. Much.
The hair needs to be chopped! At about armpit length, before it gets all straggly and starts hiding her figure. The dress isn’t great any way you slice it, but I think it would be better if the bodice continued down further and there was one less layer of ruffles. So it would look more flamenco, and less shower poof.
This look is really not fixable, but if anything, you could start by losing those hideous shoes.

The hair could work, if this were a photo shoot from a Steve Nicks album cover in 1982. The lower half IS all problems since there aren’t many good reasons for bad ruffles in the hip area.
The main problem is that the white splotches across the front look like sweat stains–silk loving ladies from humid homelands know just what I’m saying with that. But these are totally inexplicable mid-body sweat stains. Those shoes are too small, ruining that fine line between toe cleavage and toe squish.
So, Lauren. Your tailor screwed up the dress you were supposed to wear, forcing you to go with plan B. Girlfriend, do you seriously expect us to believe that this was the best alternative you had available at short notice?

Am I the only one who finds her shoes both hideous and totally inappropriate for that dress? (I don’t have enough patience to read all the comments, so I don’t know.) I kind of like the dress in general.. I think it might be helped by moving the whole froofy skirt down a few inches so it’s not starting to stick out right at the level of her butt. And I agree with everybody and their dog who says that hair is awful and needs to be at least styled somehow if she’s not going to get rid of it. It covers up half her dress with unappealing dog-ear-looking swaths. Ugh!
I don’t mind the idea of the dress. It could be cute — I think. It’s really hard to tell with all that hair in the way. It’s not too hard to tell that the fabric is horrifying, though. The bodice needs to be fitted and the shoes have to go. I’m also really tired of seeing ladies on the red carpet with no sense of posture. All in all it’s a mess, but fixable.
So how about doing something radical with the hair (like a cut and style), changing the fabric to something black and a little shimmery, visiting someone with a needle and thread, strappy black sandals of some sort, and standing up straight.

LC wouldn’t look nearly as blocky if her shredded hair didn’t cover her upper curves. Is the rest of the dress so bad that she’s hiding it? Or, when her original dress didn’t fit, did she skip her hair appointment to go buy this thing last-minute at some 80′s vintage shop but the coordinating poofy-sleeved bolero had a stain?

her hair makes me so sad!! i’m usually IN LOVE with LC’s hair, regardless of her outfits, but I think that the hair just makes the whole thing worse. maybe without the nasty bleach blonde highlights from the Laguna days and the outfit would look a little better.
I feel like part of the problem is her posture. If she had stood up straight instead of failing miserably at her attempt at a couture hunch it could have worked…but like so many before her she just looks awkward and makes it all the more contrived.

I think a lot of it has to do with her hair and pose. If her hair was back (at least not covering half of the dress), her shoes were strappier, and she was posing better – or just standing up straight – it could be cute…
The hair needs to either be cut to chin length or put up, the top needs to be a solid color and the skirt needs to be lowered about two inches. Then it’d be cute.
Remove the ruffle, then lengthen and deshine-fy the remainder. Seriously, you’re supposed to look into a full length mirror, not wear one.

I tried and tried to unfug it and got nowhere. Then I tried to find one item to keep and didn’t do any better. The hair’s gotta go, the ruffle/layer thing’s awful, the floral (?) pattern is ugly, the fabric’s horrible, the shoes look both ugly and painful (pick one, not both, for God’s sake, what’s the point of wearing *ugly* shoes that hurt?), the lipstick’s too much, I don’t really like the nail polish. The list never ends.
Finally I settled on her eyebrows. They look nice. Toss out everything else and start over.
I am fairly certain that a) her dress could, completely independent of her body, stand up on its own and b) her hair should have been cut about four years ago. The end.
The hair is destroying the porportions of the dress. It’s so long and mangy, it’s covering the top of the dress and eating her neck. If she’d put her hair up and hold her head up, she might look okay.
Of course the dress itself is still ugly, but it could be carried off by someone who knows how to present herself.
Ew. I just don’t think this can be de-fugged, and everyone above is right, right, right to focus on her hair. My first impression of the dress is that the top and bottom halves just don’t go together. The top looks sort of wife-beaterish (although it’s really hard to say because of all that hair) and then the bottom half really reminds me of those floofy sponge things people use in the shower. If I imaginatively pull her hair up into a tidy bun, I can sort of see where the designer was going with this dress–but why is the fit of the top half so crappy, and why does it come down so far and so unflatteringly over her hips? The shoes aren’t helping the cause and (at the risk of being really petty) neither is the fact that said shoes are weirdly making her big toes cross over the second toe. Good luck!
It almost looks like the dress slid down about 3 inches, and she’s standing funny to make sure it doesn’t slip any further. So to give her the benefit of the doubt…
Maybe the dress has straps, but one of the straps broke. This would 1) cause the dress to slip, and 2) explain why she has the hair arranged so weirdly– it’s covering the broken strap.
Or maybe the hair is covering up the raw edges where she had to rip off the enormous puffy Gunne Sax sleeves, and her hair is all wrong because she tried to rat it up into The Claw (the big bangs, circa 1986-1990), but was unsuccessful and didn’t have time to wash out all the Salon Selectives hairspray.
To fix it, I agree with almost everyone else: pull up the bodice, loosen up the poofs on the skirt, fix the hair, and wear some better shoes. I think that strappy/ribbon-y sandals decorated with red chiffon rosettes would be cartoonishly fun since it’s an MTV event.
Lose about 99 % of the ruffle, to just one single one at the bottom of the dress, making the dress fitted to just above the knee or where its at right now. Pull that fugly hair back into a ponytail or messy up-do, and accessorize large hoop or funky black earrings. Voila!

Perhaps make it look less like every girl with newly lengthened hair on ANTM showing up at panel with a disastrous kink and cowlick because they weren’t taught how to wrangle their weave? Also, shoes that match. Also, hair off the shoulders and show the neckline, which is so important.
I think, if you’re going with a dress as costumey as this, you have to commit, otherwise you look a mess. Spanish-y dress would require flamenco heels and flirty hair.
It is a horrible dress, but the main problem is that it makes her legs look like stumps, and I too have been staring at this photo for a while ( I wouldn’t know LC from a hole in the ground, never seen The Hills) and I think her legs are actually long and very nice.
So the dress needs to be burnt. But if that’s not on the cards, it needs a heap of material taken out of the overlong bodice to lift the skirt up, and i agree that the skirt needs to stick out with more of a skirt shape, rather than a fat tube shape.
Is it bad that I kind of love the dress? It’s definitely something that can only be worn to a B-list awards show, but it’s just fun and youthful, and in a time where twenty-something girls are trying to look all sophisticated and end up looking like they’re playing dress up in Mommy’s closet, I can appreciate her embraciing her age.
I think the hair might be the problem. It’s just so…blah. But pull that sucker up in some sort of equally youthful way, and I’m a fan.
Weeeeelllllll, let’s get Gran’s quilting shears out and lop off some of that 70′s bar chick hair so we can see what’s going on. Then let’s totally completely do away with the whole concept of the bodice. That fabric looks like it has a line of road salt dried on it. Replace the current mess with some sort of sheer top overlaid on an unusual tank – maybe with a racerback or a really high neckline and then a sliver of strap – something unusual, but in a good way. Fluff up the skirt a bit, shorten it a tad. And stand up straight!
The skirt could be a hair longer, and she’s definitely a candidate for a hot oil treatment, but mostly I think it’s the color. The blue is pretty much exactly the color of the stain from a broken Bic pen and does nothing for her skin. If the entire dress was in the burgundy color it would help a lot.
I also think she needs to lose either the odd-looking batik pattern detailing on the bodice or the lozenges on the skirt. Way too busy.
I don’t think it’s the cut of the dress that is necessarily to blame. For me, it’s the colour. And the fabric. And the print! At first it seems like one of those horrible two-tone fabrics, which shifts depending on which way you look at it. But on closer inspection it’s just a nasty, shiny, meshy, cheap looking black or blue with weirdly positioned red prints on the bodice. They look like lace appliques! I assume it’s just the pattern, and it looks more ‘frequent’ when rouched, but the effect is one of inconsistency between the top and skirt. And the colours are just too funereal for the style of dress. Like the hair, and the shoes, AND the lipstick, they’re inappropriate.
So I’m thinking: hair up, pretty chandelier earrings, softer/lighter colour, NO PRINT OR AT LEAST NOT THAT ONE, cute strappy shoes in a complementary shade. And swap the middle-aged makeup for some lipgloss!
It would be saccharine as hell but hey, it’s the only way to work something part bridesmaid’s dress, part tutu.
The top part needs to be darker, something needs to be done to her hair to make it at least look groomed, and the shoes are just plain awful. I just don’t know where to start with the shoes.
Yeah, the hair is dire, all right. If I could see the rest of the dress, I might be able to diagnose its troubles and prescribe treatment. As it is, I can only recommend a hair-ectomy and shoe transplant. Those things are ugly.
The hair. Cut it. Condition it. Then curl it. Soft waves usually agrees with LC. I think the dress looks ok, I actually can’t see half the dress because her hair is all over her torso.
And then the shoes. I think they’d look better if they were tall strappy heels.
I think she knows that she is wearing what is essentially 2009 prom trash Barbie’s homecoming dress made in life size. That thing looks like it came off the rack at Forever XXI’s formals department. That being said, the look on her face clearly states the pain she is feeling at wearing this monstrosity. Maybe she over-processed her hair into a color akin to Barbie’s horse to match the dress theme? Or possibly to distract us from the fug going on below her neck.

Well aside from the fact that for a minute I thought that this was Christina Applegate, hmmm. I love the shoes so she can give me those anytime. But the dress, I don’t think so. The big white swirly streak makes me think about those times when you accidentally dump bleach on something and in your effort to get it out, you sort of you know, ruin the top or dress or what have you. Basically…she looks like she has a bleach stain running through that bad boy.
Otherwise, I don’t like the color combo one bit. It’s just so…blah. It’s very pedestrian, dress wise.

I don’t mind the dress, especially for the event. different hair (up or back off her face) I think that because the dress is kind of busy, and shoe with straps, etc. is overkill. nice high stilettos with an open toe. ditch the dark lip for some more natural color. maybe some interesting earrings.

With the actual dress… you can’t really tell because of the hair, but I have an inkling the top of the bodice doesn’t fit, so fix that.

And now I think someone’s flipped a switch in my head marked “dear god the bodice” and all I can see is that. In a dress that’s so… verging on ballerina-death-metal-tutu, I’d have gone with a plain fabric. Shiney fabrics never good unless you’re going for a lamé turban.
The skirt would’ve worked better with aforesaid shorter bodice, and maybe a bit less.. volume. It’s so very layered and ruffley it makes me crave chocolate mousse cake.
And the shoes are just rank.

I agree that her hair drags the style down. With some sort of cute updo, less heavy shoes, and a color that wasn’t so drab, I think it could be a cute look. I personally love that style of dress on someone young, but perk it up a bit please!
Ok, I know the problem is the dress but did anyone notice how out of place those shoes are? They are just so NOT right with this shiny, ruffly thing…that we must presume she was going for. But as for the dress I think if you replaced that shiney gray poleyester with a nice matte black silk it might make the ruffles more drapey and less boxey and fix this look right up…also if someone would be so kind as to give homegirl a ponytail holder so she can pull back her poolside fried looking hair into a nice low knot or something and cover up the evidence?
God, at first I thought it was just the hair. But then I imagined it without those frizzy excuses of extensions hanging over her like she just bit an apple, and the shoes were a problem. I love shoes. Almost all. Just not those ones with this look. Maybe with some slacks?

To be honest I think LC is young enough and cute enough to wear this well. The dress is different, and I think she pulls the whole thing off looking fun and young. I also like the hair. She looks like HERSELF not a hollwood caricature.

Honestly, I think I’d just add some length. I think it would be kind of cute if it just had a more flapper like length and didn’t bunch up in the hip and thigh region. There is no reason to make yourself look like you’re carrying extra weight there, since America knows she is not. I really like the color though, and I’m generally in favor of young people trying out more adventurous silhouettes and fabric combinations.
Plus, different lipstick, different hair, different shoes.
I don’t think the dress is unsaveable really, but first there should be way less ruffles. There are too many ruffles which makes them too wide.
The worst thing about this look is the hair. Cut off like, a big part of it, it would definitely help a lot.

I’d start with getting rid of the weird lightning/sweat mark line down the middle of the top. Then make the top half out of the same material as the bottom half, print the roses (are they roses?!) to match the bottom, rather than just three big ones, and make the red brighter. Who knows, with red shoes it might even work?
I have a great fix for this outfit – don’t invite LC to any event where there might be cameras.

Firstly tie the hair up.
Secondly hack the bottom of the dress off so that the body of the dress is a straight silhouette that ends in the same place as the bottom of the ruffles. Add short sleeves with a less fussy and smaller scale version of the ruffles.
Then hike the shoes up another notch!
I think it would greatly improve the dress to make it a little bit longer, and start the ruffles up higher, because as it stands right now, her hips look wide. Maybe the top part should be a heavier fabric as well.

I actually think the dress would be really cute and flirty, were it not for those hideous, HIDEOUS shoes. They totally throw the whole thing off.

I would take the bottom ruffle and make it stick out more and add another ruffle that was even a bit further out. It would help the line of the dress. I like the top, a lot actually. But like everyone else says, the hair is terrible!
I really would not mind the dress at all if it were paired with a much better pair of shoes. And the HAIR!!! What is she doing, it looks absolutely terrible, like she slept with it in a ponytail last night and didn’t bother to take a straightening and/or curling iron to it to make it look decent for the red carpet.
For me, it’s the shoes. The style seems to make her feet appear really narrown, which makes her legs and hips/skirt look exceptionally wide. Also, I don’t like that shade of black with the faded black/gray of the dress. I think it would also help if the top of the dress were more fitted. Other than that, I like the dress.
I would first change the color. That gray is hideous. Maybe make it less floral, too? And extend the tight part down around her hips a little farther, essentially to keep the length but get rid of some of the fluff. Only a couple layers of the fabric, lets say – like a mini with a sort of classy ruffle. And do something with the hair. We need to see a little shoulder. And while the shoes are, well… okay, she could do SO much better. They’re just sort of “meh” with a hint of “…leather?” And they just sort of make her feet look trapped in spiderwebs. And they don’t match the hideous dress color. Just… make everything a little better?

hair sleek and shiny and straight down her back, off her shoulders. cool, neutral, sky high heels, maybe even with a modest platform to get her looking all leggy. clean makeup emphasizing bone structure. basically, make everything look more sleek and grown up so the dress is a fun juxtaposition instead of awkward prom chick.
Hmmm… Really, the bodice is the only part of this that works. I’d cut off the skirt and wear the top as a cami with jeans (and different shoes, obv)… but not on red carpet. And for the love of VO5, please consider a haircut and/or some conditioner!

The fabric looks like cheap curtains, the colors are hideous, the print is ugly, the silhouette is unflattering, the fit is awkward (to put it kindly), and even my grandmother would reject those shoes as ‘too matronly’. nyway, I wanted so see some weather and nigh races and I didn’t get either. The smoke looks great from outside, from inside the car not so much, it shows ugly edges on the dashboard. The AI was plain stupid on standard settings (which is not an excuse anyway). Low velocity physics felt off. I played on professional setting for anyone who wants to know. You couldn’t really hear all the sound with that background noise, but the V8 was way too high pitched… it didn’t sound like a V8 at all.
