We Need To Talk About SWINTON

I’m running out of headline options for her: If I were to pull our usual “fug” word switcheroo with her, I think half of Fug Nation would rise up and unseat me, and I am WAY too lazy to go find another chair.

Love all of it, really, especially the origami-inspired dress.

What the heck is going on with that side view though?? She looks… um. Like a granny. Or like me, after I’ve eaten too much.

That dress though! *swoon* Can you imagine it in a jewel tone? She’d look like she’d finally reached her true calling and fused with a rare gem.

She does NOT look like a granny!! She looks like an real, healthy human being!

I agree that she looks nothing like a granny. She looks fantastic in all shots- I just love her….

Eh, she’s a 52 yr-old woman who seems to be living life to the fullest and not killing herself with six hours of exercise every day. A bit of belly is a natural thing to have. *shrug* Certainly doesn’t make her look any less awesome.

Perhaps you are mistaking a human woman for some sort of humanoid/god-like robot being?

She has a uterus right there in that slight bump. Also, some fat distributed in that area, as per normal female fat distribution. That uterus has been stretched on two occasions to accommodate children. The uterus stretch, the abdominal wall muscle stretched.

What could be more normal, usual or expected?
Are the exaggerated sort of lumps and bumps to which Fergie refers in “My Humps” (hips, boobs, bum) acceptable, but the real bumps and lumps (stomach, love handles, thighs etc) not?

Incidentally, however, she has always had somewhat loose muscle in that area, creating the effect you see in that blue skirt – exacerbated by the fact that, being very tall, she has developed a tendency to push her hips forward and curve her back forwards, crumpling an already soft stomach into an exaggerated paunch.

She has the body of a normal, healthy woman with all essential body parts (hips, uterus etc) exactly as they should be, creating her shape accordingly. She clearly DOES NOT prize masculinising of the normal female body by a severe regimen of muscle-building and tightening. Thank god. I’m not large by any measure, but I am not particularly concerned about having rippling abs etc. and it is nice to see someone similarly unconcerned, and so confident in their natural body. I have the non-concern but rarely the confidence.

See this YouTube clip of her in Female Perversions…

Nooo! I wasn’t complaining- I was just surprised. The high waist just looks like it rode up a bit.

I like the fact that she has human attributes as well as her otherworldly ones.

I love that there’s a rainbow in the background on that last pic. It’s like she’s the pot of gold at the end of it.

I noticed that too – what more do you want? Rainbows shoot out of her armpits!

The thing about SWINTON’s pants is the fact they are just skimming the ground and not pooling around her ankles, it makes her look taller and not like an infant playing dress-up.

A Ron Swanson reference in a SWINTON post?! You ladies are my favourite people on the internet.

I’m calling her the AntiKard (as in Kardashian). Stylish without being a slave to the trends; you’ll never see her in a “Who Wore It Best” contest, and she doesn’t prefer to wear so much makeup that she would be safe in a nuclear fallout. Awesome! She even takes some of the sting out of Bill Murray’s outfit.

She’s a striking woman always, but her smiling, giggling face in the second picture is so pretty. Just so lovely. And, I adore the color combination of blue skirt and taupe blouse.

I like that in photos 2 & 3 you can see she’s wearing the same shoes. packing shoes to wear more than once on an international trip? she’s just like us y’all! except, more awesome.

The slideshow rendered in the wrong order, so I fixed it. But that means people’s comments about specific slides are kinda wonkus. Like, Lauren’s “second picture” comment now refers to the third picture. I’m so sorry.

I love SWINTON – bold style that works perfectly on her figure and persona. Props to Francesca for her wry observation that you’ll never see SWINTON in a who wore it best frame. And “Anti-Kard” – too funny!

I think I might die of star-struckdedness if I ever caught a glimpse of SWINTON in real life. And although I could never wear 99.9999999% of anything she does, I envy her stylishness and the way she never seems to be trying to shock people just to shock them or wear something ugly just to seem avant-garde (or however you spell that). She just wears the crap out of everything and doesn’t even seem like she’s trying.

Oh, that photo of her in the long coat……alien from planet Fierce. Bill Murray looks like an escapee from a nursing home.

Honestly, palazzo works on SWINTON because she’s ninety feet tall. That’s probably why it doesn’t look as awkward as it would on – say – the Hudge or Miley.

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THAT FIRST PHOTO THOUGH. THAT SKIRT IS DOING HORRIBLE THINGS TO swinton’S MIDSECTION THAT I’M PRETTY SURE IS ILLEGAL IN ALL STATES EXCEPT FOR NEW JERSEY. AND POSSIBLY TEXAS.

On that note: How DO you write SWINTON’s name when you’re caps-locking? I presume you’d still hold down shift, but it’s kind of like a double negative. But typing SWINTON when everything else is in capslock means that you’re essentially typing Swinton or – worse – swinton, and if SWINTON is Swintoning or even swintoning, there is something horribly wrong.

I had to come back to this to say that it seemed such a let down to go from the simple, understated grace and elegance of Swinton to the fluffy prettiness of Frieda Pinto and Eva Longoria in the previous posts.

I like her casual looks (especially that jacket on the last slide…GIMME…GIMME..GIMME). However, when I saw the satin gown had three simultaneous thoughts: butterfly, bow and straight jacket. That can’t be good, can it? It looks so uncomfortable.

Serious question that has nothing to do with fashion: When did Bill Murray get old?? Seriously, before reading the text, I thought, “Who is that crazy old guy with SWINTON?” Not that people shouldn’t age-God knows I seem to be aging at the speed of light-but it was surreal for me.
Anyway, I agree that SWINTON’s blue skirt is too “high-rise” for my tastes–a skirt version of mom jeans. At least it proves that SWINTON is, in fact, human.
Although, judging from the last picture where she looks eleventy feet tall and fierce, maybe she’s only PART human. No mere mortal should look that good in those clothes. (By which I mean–the clothes are awesome. That coat is to die for. But seriously? Put me in something like that and…oh I can’t even think about it. I need to go lie down)

How I loved these and the captions (esp. the divine mantis comment–reminded me of one of my favorite Simpsons episodes, when Sideshow Bob marries one of the Bouvier sisters and describes embracing her as like “kissing some divine ashtray”). Also: that COAT! Love!

She is kicking it. We need some kind of totally new rating system for her. For some reason, I feel that she is the living incarnation of the hero in the 1984 film “Buckaroo Banzai” described as “concerning the efforts of the multi-talented Dr. Buckaroo Banzai, a physicist, neurosurgeon, test pilot, and rock musician, to save the world by defeating a band of inter-dimensional aliens called Red Lectroids from Planet 10.” And I might add, looking good while doing it. I feel that this best approaches SWINTON.

These shots all look gorgeous to me, but I’m especially knocked out by the bronze-y dress. That is SWINTON SMASHING.

She really is all kinds of awesome. I would’ve loved to see her as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones (she does androgynous so well; see her Gabriel in Constantine), but the character is supposed to be younger, so Gwendoline Christie is well cast. Maybe she and Swinton can play sisters in something!

As I walk down the sidewalk, in my mind I am the SWINTON. In reality, I’m a 5 ft 4, wide-hipped, mousy brown haired average woman….but in my mind, oh in my mind, I am the Divine Mantis. Bow down to your queen sidewalk mortals!
