It was Rugby not Football! <3
Thanks, I was just about to say the same… it hurts just reading it
Sorry!
According to Marie Claire UK, the rugby coat was the same the LK Bennett Ami she wore last year, this time with its original belt.
here’s the link, Marie Claire.
Remembrance Day in Canada is November 11, same as the US Veterans Day. I wasn’t aware that in the UK it is always the closest Sunday to November 11. We wear poppies to commemorate the occasion, sold to raise funds by veteran’s groups. The poppy comes from the poem “In Flanders Fields”. I was surprised to learn when I was in the US last year in early November that people weren’t aware of that tradition. Anyway, the red poppy looks great on a black coat.
Some Americans are. Lots of people wore them when I was a kid, but I did grow up in a so-called “retirement city,” so our population included a lot of older people and veterans. I met my dad for a beer this past Veterans Day, and he was wearing a poppy.
I’m from the Boston area, and we always saw lots of poppies worn there on Veterans’ Day. Maybe there’s some generations-back ancestry in common.
It does look terrific with the black coat!
Yes, the poppy symbol comes from World War I and is worn in remembrance of all military veterans. In the US, money donated in exchange for a poppy goes to Retired Vets of American, I believe.
*sigh* I wish I was a princess so I could have an amazing collection of coats….and jewels….and tiaras…and homes…
I live where it gets cold so I have quite a few coats but mine tend to be practical: full of down so I don’t freeze my ass off while shoveling the 6 inches of snow we got Sunday. Or full of down and hit me at the knees because the high is only going to be -8 degrees.
I appreciate that her hair looks like a regular person’s hair in the last photo. It’s pretty, but not as big, full, luxurious as it has looked. A regular hair day makes her look more relaxed.
Also, given the state of Prince Williams’s hair, hats really due suit him. I don’t mind a balding man (hello Ed Harris!), but he’s at the awkward stage when it’s thinning, but not quite gone. I sort of wish he would just buzz it off, but I guess that’s too edgy for a Royal?
“do suit him!” Can’t spell anymore!
I completely concur–there is absolutely nothing wrong with a man sans hair. He totally IS in an awkward stage, and it’s exacerbated by wearing his hair longer, so that it looks wispy. It’s much better when a man takes charge and crops it close in these circumstances–a statement that Hair Is Superfluous to My Handsome Manly Existence. But yeah, I can see that that might not mesh with Official Royal Aesthetics.
I have been lobbying hard for Kate to move away (at least sometimes) from the beauty pageant hair, so I am pleased as punch at this development, this evolution toward more normal person hair. I don’t actually LOVE this exact execution, as her long bangs are sort of awkward and her hair looks like mine does when I do it myself (I thought she had professional blower outers?), but it’s a step in the right direction, in my opinion.
*sigh* I love coats. And hats, I love hats.
These are looks that are both terrific and flawlessly appropriate. She just keeps pulling off that difficult combination and I think it’s pretty impressive.
But I am getting tired of the harsh makeup and brows. She goes nice and easy on foundation and lipstick (though this might be a tad too much blush), but the crayon eyeliner and borderline “sperm brow” really need fixing, in my opinion. Middleton is so pretty, and these touches, no doubt intended as accents, detract from her looks rather than enhancing.
It’s nifty she does her own, yes. It’s also time she stopped.
I can see room for improvement in her makeup, but nothing so egregious to suggest that she should stop doing her own makeup. That’s way harsh, Tai. I think a softer, warmer color blush would help. She doesn’t need to contour it so much either, since she already has great cheekbones. Just a little warmth would do the trick.
>>That’s way harsh, Tai.<<
Ha, great reference!
HELLO Mr. Picture Number Three!! Information Fugnation on this one?
Aaaah, that’ll be Dan Carter, New Zealand fly-half, and a bloody marvel. And that’s just his face. We are talking major-league thighage, people….oh, and also? I called dibs on him years ago……
Janiekettles – as long as you don’t mind a man with a baby then you’re good. Cos Dan and Honour just announced they’re expecting.
Sarah – google image search “dan carter jockey” and thank me later. HELLO DAN CARTER.
I hear he’s a douche in real life though. Arrogant and whatnot. Although his comments after he met the Prince and Duchess were that he was too shy to ask for a pic with them! Ha – as if the media deny us that photo! SWOON.
@SCM: Really? Because the people I know who’ve met him have said he’s really nice, but a bit thick (sorry, DC). He is a good looking guy, but not really my type.. however, my boyfriend is pretty much in love with him, hehe!
you’re my favourite.
Remembrance Sunday is when we commemorate those who died in the wars, primarily 1914-1918 and 1939-1945, but the other conflicts too. There are church services, formal wreath-laying services, and there is a minute’s silence at 11am on all tv and radio stations, and most workplaces observe it too. Even people just sitting at home on their own observe it. Poppies are on sale for a couple of weeks beforehand and most people buy them and wear them. I usually buy one and lose it within two days; they never stay on.
If you travel around Britain you’ll see that every town and village has a war memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives in WWI, and most have one for WWII as well.
A few weeks ago I was surprised when Kate turned up at the wedding of a distant cousin of mine! Alas I wasn’t there as I lost touch with that branch of the family years ago but it was rather amusing that people were asking me if the bride was a relation.
As an American, I totally dorked out and got all excited when I saw the Australian rugby team in the same hotel as me,and well tall and muscular, their faces had taken some hits (obviously). So it’s nice to see that Dan guy with all of his teeth. And yes, I wish I lived some place cold where I could wear Kate’s coats. Sigh.
Will this girl EVER have a bad fashion day? Will she EVER have a bad hair day? Did she sell her soul to the devil?
I also agree that Wil should buzz that hair- it’s very aging. Liking the red coat. Would like to see an updo- chignon – or some such on Kate- this same do is boring.
I think that in general, Kate and Will dress like they’re much older than their years. I wish they’d worn something more casual to the rugby game; as such, they look formal and stiff. Remember how awesome they looked during the Olympics? They looked relaxed and like they were having a blast. They don’t need to wear jeans, but there’s a whole range of stuff to wear between suits and jeans!
I’m getting sick of your anti-American obsession with England’s boring monarch in waiting. She not that good looking and her fashion attempts scream establishment. Enough already, stop insulting my senses!
Why so bitter? Kate is gorgeous and has great fashion sense! And, since when is liking English monarchs being anti-American? GO AWAY!
Heh, she waited for coat season to hide the bump! Pregnant!
LOVE the coats! I desperately need a new coat for a trip to NYC in 3 weeks, but I’m allergic to wool and it’s been impossible to find one! Any help, FugNation?
I am so glad you included the pics from the rugby. Kate & Wills + suited rugby players = delight. And the All Blacks (NZ’s team) were apparently very bashful about it, according to their Twitter feeds.
I covet that red coat.
