Keira Knightley has both been great and looked great in her other collaborations with Joe Wright, so I’m looking forward to seeing her in Anna Karenina. It doesn’t hurt that she’s making the press tour a real pleasure to behold:
This is so pretty — I love the mix of midnight blue and black. The whole ensemble is suitably dramatic-looking for the role she’s promoting, but it also seems wholly in character with her own tastes, so it doesn’t come off costumey. Remember when her makeup always seemed smeared and consumption-adjacent? We’ve come so far. It’s always exciting when a celebrity makes you excited to see what she’s going to wear next. Between Keira, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, hopefully Tilda Swinton, and… well, the list is long of ladies who might make noise come awards season and/or be on the circuit promoting their films. But even if I stop here, it’s already exciting.

I absolutely love this dress. I would love to own it. I’d never take it off if I looked as good as Keira does in it. Great hair, great makeup, great brows! I am a bit tired of her period piece films, but she is so good in them that I’ll give her a pass.
Agree 100%
my god, her face is the work of art <3
Wow, she does look really pretty. I shouldn’t express such surprise because she IS really pretty, but she does seem to underplay herself quite a bit.
She is so exquisitely beautiful and that dress is perfectly beautiful too.
J’ADORE!!! This is EXQUISITE! The dress is MAGNIFICENT and her face is PERFECTION! Love the earrings, the red lips & black nailpolish! TO DIE FOR!!! COVET it all!
She looks beautiful.
This is a great, optimistic entry. I too am really excited for the clothes this awards season.
Am I on crack or is the lower portion of the dress (mid-thigh on down) sheer? Am I just seeing the reflection from the black fabric?
Assuming I’m on crack, it’s beautiful. (Wait… no…)
I looked at the full-size photo, and it looks like there’s a nude-for-Keira lining in the skirt. It really doesn’t look like legs. (I obviously had the same thought as you did, causing me to inspect more carefully.)
While I’m admittedly getting sick of black lace dresses, I think this is the prettiest one I’ve seen. And I loooooove the makeup. That lipstick is perfect.
I hope it’s a trick of the light, because sheerness would be a most unfortunate thing to have happened here. She looks great.
My opinion of the Wright/Knightley oeuvre is somewhat different than Heather’s. The way I’m scoring it, they struck out looking in their first at-bat and hit a grand slam the second time. All of y’all are welcome to see it differently than I do, but please spare us all any attempts to persuade me otherwise. It’s never happening.
ugh. hate to ruin it (has been out in the uk for a while, soz). but it is DREADFUL. like a bad play you would put on for a drama class if you were a pretentious teenager, only with a lot more money.
the dress however, marvelous, and long may it continue.
Agreed! It. was SO bad.
It looks nice on Kiera, but could be extremely matronly on the average hapless wearer.
You forgot HBC! Helena Bonham Carter is in the Les Miz movie–I’m hoping she’ll be nice and visible come circuit/awards time. Love her get ups!
Watched Bend it Like Beckham with my soccer loving 11 yo girl last weekend. Keira Knightley is a lovely treasure.
I hope it’s a bad camera angle that’s making her look bobbleheaded and shapeless, and not the dress. Because people worked very hard to make that dress, and it’d be terrible if it made anyone who wore it look like a 11-year-old from the neck down.
I mean, I know she isn’t curvy, but the combination of the featureless torso and the baggy, high-waisted skirt are making her look, well, not at all like an adult female.
Yes!! It’s actually awful. What an old fashioned heroine might have worn before she killed herself as revenge for the lover who disappointed her.
This is definitely adjacent to that sort of golden and nude lace dress she wore promoting A Dangerous Method last year, but I like this much more. It seems to fit better, and the navy and black combo is terrific. It helps that her face is a total work of art.
Pretty!!!
Yep, she’s real pretty; and that’s a nice dress; but she still couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag if you spotted her an X-acto knife.
And how! Her success is mind boggling.
I I can’t stand it. Does her face have any other expression. She doesn’t smile she doesn’t frown…she just stands like a stick with her lips parted. Her lips parted, all the time, make me hate her.
She does have an odd face.
And her cheeks are permanently sucked in/con caved. Arg!
She, Lady BlahBlah, and Jessica Biel all appear unable to close their mouths in the presence of a photographer. Flycatcher mouth – is this A Thing? I wonder whether they think it looks good, or whether they just cannot muster the strength to lift those lower lips.
The Russian theme gives her an excuse for lots of lace and embroidery and really chic, timeless dresses.
This is not to my taste at all, and I love it on her.
i think this is her photo face because in real life she is quite animated and exuberant. i just saw her on GMA this morning (i do not know her in real life). maybe she does this face because i think there are times when she can be quite unphotogenic in still shots.
Meh.
She’s very, very pretty, and I want that makeup for myself, but I am DREADING Anna Karenina. I can’t bring myself to skip it because hello, favorite novel + Russia + nineteenth-century rich people, but why couldn’t Wright have seen past his own infatuation with Keira and given the lead role to Michelle Dockery? She’s done way better at playing a badly behaved society lady than Keira has.
Very, very good.
hmmm.
I’m on the wrong web site.
