Well Played, Kiernan Shipka

well-played

Considering that the Olympics has turned us all in a bunch of fourteen year old girls — our collective squealing over the swimmers’ abs being exhibit A — I guess it only makes sense that I am currently coveting an almost-fourteen year old’s outfit:

But seriously. I would wear this.

Can she play Molly Dix in the movie, please?

    I want that dress!

I would go through the horror of being 14 again if it meant that I would wear things like this and NOT the horrible things I actually wore at 14. Lady-like. Fun. Appropriate. WIN.

Don’t know who this lovely girl is, but I would wear that outfit. Clean lines, flattering, yet funky. I wore all black every day in my homage to the Cure at that age. What was I thinking.

She plays the daughter on Mad Men. She is a great little actress! Very “real” and not cheeky.

She’s cute, it’s cute, and it’s age-appropriate. WIN WIN WIN.

I LOVE this girl. She always looks beautiful, dresses age appropriately, and smiles. AND she is very talented!

    I adore her!

So adorable, stylish and age-appropriate. Yes, it is possible to do all three things at once. Thank you, Kiernan.

I have no idea who this is, but well done! Cute and age appropriate :)

This is one of those rare polished, perfect, yet comfortable-looking outfits that would work for almost any age (you might just want to go below rather than above the knee for an older woman IMO).

It’s particularly terrific on Shipka, whom I know best as Sally Draper on Mad Men, and who, in addition to being a budding fashionista, is also a remarkable actress. It’s always nice to see her, here or there!

    Spot-on, Ms. Shipka!

The lighting and shadows are totally wacky. Is this photoshopped?

Nope. Got it direct from Getty.

I looked at it again after reading your comment and the line between the scenery and her hair is crazy. Maybe Getty didn’t know it was photoshopped? Lol.

Getty gets the photos direct from the photogs, who don’t have time to photoshop them — they basically go to these things, then upload the pics from their cameras in the car. I TOTALLY see what you mean, but I sincerely think it’s just a weird perfect storm of lighting and camera settings that made that happen.

I saw the whole photoset and it is totally bizarre how the lighting worked out. Thank god she didn’t pick anything sheer! (Add: How this is Oscar de la Renta is beyond me.)

Her shoes look like some Kate Spade flats that I ADORE. Not sure if they’re the same shoe, but very very cute nonetheless. She’s very polished while still being bubbly and cute and age appropriate.

Am I wrong to be sad that at her age she already knows the official Hollywood pose for trying to look slimmer? Bleh.

Is that the purpose of the leg crossing? I have never been able to suss that one out.

However, in this photo, I think it only appears that she is doing the leg cross because she is walking forward while turning sideways toward the camera.

I’m sad that her hair looks to have been dyed. It’s much lighter than her brows.

Nah, she’s blonde and it’s summer and she’s 13. My bet is, she’s just been outside and in the pool a lot and her natural highlights have just gone hella blonde.

I totally agree. I had those terrible highlights when I was a kid. Stupid sun and chlorine made my hair yellow-orange. Ah, to be a kid again, without a $350 salon bill.

I have long contended that Sally Draper is one of the most interesting Mad Men characters. Betty is going to be appalled when Sally burns her bra runs off to Woodstock with Glen.

Anyway, it is nice to see Miss Shipka comporting herself so well in public.

Some cable show did a feature on her closet recently, and her tastes. She is a beautiful poised and very sharp kid (12 1/2)

There are several young starlets who should take a clue from this polished young lady. But the shoes don’t look like they fit her very well.

She reminds me of a younger Emma Watson and I love the shoes.

She does *so well* on the red carpet…always age-appropriate and mostly super-cute! I’m looking forward to watching her grow up and seeing how her style evolves.

She looks so much like Emma Watson via Hermione Granger in the early Harry Potter movies. Cute dress though!

I am eternally amused by Suri’s Burn Book’s take on Ms. Shipka, who is indeed delightful.

That dress is super cute and she looks adorable wearing it. In fact, I’ve already decided, based almost solely on this photo, that she has a delightful personality as well. She just looks so bubbly and that smile seems so genuine — like she’s truly happy to be where ever she is. It’s giving me the warm fuzzies.

I want to love this because she’s so young and cute, but the dress is too stiff and the material is lawn chair-ish. And why the clutch? I like the shoes though.
