Fug or Fab: Jaime King

fug-or-fab

Well, from the neck up she looks GREAT. Girl gives good face. But let’s talk about from the neck down:

I kinda love it?  It’s sort of WEIRD but also sort of great — summery and interesting, and flattering, and…well, kind of compelling. If a dress can be said to be compelling.  Can a dress be compelling?

I’ll vote for the waist-up. But that hoop skirt is unnecessary and the shoes are badly executed. I hate when you can see the sole of a shoe, and the scaffolding of the ankle strap is sagging.

Yeah, these recent wide skirts (and shorts) are like a throw back to the 50s. I say we should just throw them back.

Compelling is the perfect word for it. I bet it’s even more interesting in person, and she looks happy in it and it’s flattering. And she gets a plus because there’s no illusion netting and I can’t see her boobs or other parts it used to be illegal to show.

I think I’d love it without what looks like an elaborate baby sling? slinky? crumb catcher? on the front. I think that actually sticks out from the dress and isn’t just a print- I think I could even get behind it if that was part of the fabric but it looks like its attached so it just doesn’t “do it” for me.

If you zoom in, you’ll see it’s part of the dress – a different pattern, for certain, but it’s all stitched up on top and on bottom. There is also some interesting folding going on in the mid-section!

Well played, Miss King! She does look stunning, and that dress is cute and interesting. The shoes are not the best, but I just don’t like the gladiator anything period.

I don’t mind the top, but I despise the skirt. I’m not a big fan of structured pieces in general and this one is doing nothing for me. I also feel like Lemon Breeland would probably wear this, because Lemon Breeland loves herself some cracked out clothes.

I agree. I love it…until you get to the hips. It looks like some sort of strange skirt/umbrella hybrid or like it has hip bustles, and I think we can all agree that adding baggage to the hips (even on someone as tiny as her) isn’t the most flattering.

I wish it was just a teeeeeensy bit shorter, but it’s fun and cute and she looks awesome in it.

Interesting, colorful, flattering dress that covers her up appropriately — except for that huge “remembrance” ribbon whose ends are grabbing her chesticles, or maybe it’s a weird version of the Under Armour logo? Plus, the shoes have to go.

You’ve got to stare at it for so long to figure what all is going on, it distracts from how pretty she is. There are, like, 5 distinct design elements competing for first place, and you’re losing poor Jaime while they duke it out.

      This.
My eyes can’t decide what to focus on. It’s all just. . . too much.

I was wondering why she couldn’t be bothered with putting her sunnies away for the red carpet and then I saw the background.

I’ve never quite noticed before she has SUCH a tiny waist!

It’s an illusion of the pattern. Look closer.

I mean, her waist is still tiny, but not as tiny as it looks upon first inspection.

She looks lovely, but there’s a lot going on here with this dress. Cut in shoulders, dark edging, weird star pattern at her sternum, silly illusion pattern at the waist that’s supposed to make her waist look smaller, crinolines or some kind of structure under the skirt AND about 5 different fabrics. Oy. Just listing it all is setting off a migraine. If the crinoline weren’t so lumpy and misshapen and had this been in one solid color, I think I would have liked this. Even with a few clouds on it and I would still be digging it. But, as is, this gets a fug.

It is NOT great! Are you kidding? From the greased back hair to the inverted pentalpha to the hoop skirt with shoes that do not go. Man, if this looks great, I’ll have what you are having cos the trip sounds awesome.

Too much skirt ruins an otherwise acceptable summer frock.

Not working for me. Also, that arch thingie keeps making me think of some suspense scene where the characters are on a boat that’s going under a bridge and then down a WATERFALL as they’re pursued by their nefarious archenemies, but they land at the bottom in a peaceful little pool surrounded by hibiscus, or maybe the ocean.

Isn’t that the Under Armor logo? Is this a workout dress?

It’s funny that we’re revisiting the padded hip styles of the late 40′s and 50′s now, when there is this looming, life threatening, ever alarming explosion of the obese in America! I thought we were all just so much more fatty fat fat, does anyone really need to fake extra expanse on the hips and thighs?

Oh, right, I guess it’s only the truly fashionable who need the pads to fake the width. The actual width is still not acceptable.

Okay, I’m pretty sure her dress is a giant painting of a beach scene. Am I the only one who sees this? Or did other people see it and think “yay!”. I mean, if you did, that’s cool. But, I just generally tend to shy away from dresses that remind of the paintings in my mom’s family room. There are DUNES on her dress.

Rip off that applique and the tinsel edging, put her in more casual shoes* and she’d have a perfect summer look here.

*Espadrilles. Flip-flops. Hey, she could even wear those stupid McCartney platform pumps – maybe she’d lose one or drip nail polish on it and there would be one less pair left in the wild.

I don’t hate the pattern. I DO however hate the weird action around the hips… wtf? She looks enormous and out of proportion.

Her waist looks tiny, but she also kind of looks like she’s wearing a cape? IS she wearing a cape? She’s not, right? If she’s not, then I dig it.

That’s actually part of the bodice; the teeny tiny waist is an optical illusion. I love it. She looks like a wasp! A compelling wasp!

(And imagine how much MORE waspy with the sunglasses on!)

I like it overall, I suspect this is one of those dresses where you need to be a model (or model turned CW starlet) to pull off. Could you imagine this on Bilson? it would swallow her whole

It looks like a collage… I’m not sure whether that’s good or bad. it’s an interesting dress to look at. I wish she was wearing lipstick with more of a color; not a lot more, just enough so you could tell she has lips. At the moment I’m not entirely willing to swear to that.

Did “Blue Crush” really need to be remade? As a dress?

She always looks great no matter what she is wearing. The ugly dress is not a permanent part of her so who really cares.

I love the makeup and the dress is interesting, beautiful & flattering! I love its edgy elegance! But, the shoes are the wrong choice for this dress! Besides an appropriate pair of stilettos, I would’ve liked to see some jewelry, her hair down and some cute nailpolish! Plus, she should’ve lost the sunglasses!

Never thought she was a pretty girl, until this photo. She does have great face! Just normally half covered by greasy, badly dyed, wrong shade blonde hair. Her face in this photo is a bit of a revelation for me.
