Taissa Farmiga is on — or was, as I think season two will have an entirely new cast — American Horror Story, and she was very good on it. She has the Farmiga acting gene, clearly (her sister is Vera). That’s going to serve her very well in the future. I do, however, worry she might also have the Farmiga Wardrobe Gene, because it tends to blandness, and this is sadly a bit mopey for a young actress:
I actually think this DRESS — the design of it — is very pretty. Imagine her wearing this in, say, a green. FANTASTIC. And then with a necklace. Or a bracelet. Or some dangly earrings — some bling, in other words. The canvas here is great. How would you liven it up?

It reminds me of the dress last year that Diana Argon wore that you photoshopped to show how great it would have been in color. Any color, pick one.
I’m sooooo tired of BEIGE/NUDE/TAN BLAH that I can’t even manage to say something about this, I know it’s unfair but HONESTLY.
Needs flashy jewellery and a less droopy hairstyle.
Yes, dear god, get rid of the American Gothic hair, for the love of everything.
A color and a necklace. Why do all these insist on wearing colors that look like old sports bras?
This dress, in a color, + jewelry
She really was great on AHS! As for the dress, I agree with what was said – it’s cute, just needed some color.
I don’t hate the dress (I hate the color), but it’s got some visible foundation business going on beneath the bodice (and then there’s the color, which I hate), not to mention the sides and back are unnecessarily floopy, just too much (of that color, which I hate).
All of that said, I love that she’s a Farmiga. Her sister uttered one of my favorite lines in all of early-21st century cinema: “You were a parenthesis.” Vera Farmiga said that (to Intern George!!) in Up In The Air.
You bet this kid’s all right with me.
Sorry, I was hypnotized by the swirly-ness in the chest area. You said something?
Oh yeah — ANY color, better hair, ANY jewelry. And maybe yank up the bust 2-3 inches?
I just love that at least her face looks happy.
After these Golden Globes, I officially call for a moratorium on nude dresses and boring dresses that are supposed to be interesting just because they are backless. I’ve just seen too much of them.
Color and jewelry would make a difference, but nothing would look good with that sad, droopy hair! WTH!!! That is just awful. Her stylist should be fired for the hair alone. It looks like she pulled it back in the morning, spent the day cleaning house and then put her dress on to go out without even looking in the mirror or touching her hair. Belch!
That colour on her is depression incarnate. How about swapping it to a deep, but softened plum? She’s a delicate little thing, and it would be tricky not to overwhelm her. Fancier hair, too, and a bit of shimmery bling. Maybe a deep gunmetal on the dress, and an interesting abalone necklace for some delicate glimmer.
Just because a color is trendy and has a cool-sounding name (blush – isn’t this what we used to call dusty rose?) does not make it a good idea. In a way, it’s kind of pretty with her coloring (though still, too blah) – if that color doesn’t work with her coloring, I can’t think of anyone who it would look better on.
Also, maybe some jewelry? That’s a lot of bare bodice staring me in the face.
Better hair. And lipstick.
She also needs a hair colorist to lift that depressive mop up to new heights. Maybe a rich chestnut or red with her pale-but-perfect skin?
I thought she looked absolutely stunning. It was natural and almost effortless, minimal almost. Yes the color was a washout, but the style and cut of the dress was fantastic on her. As was the bodice, she’s got amazing shoulders/collarbones and is a dead-ringer for a sister with her hair up like that. I’m glad she did not over-do it, and in fact think she was on of the best dressed.
Let me guess, you’re her stylist.
What’s irritating is you know someone told her to wear that color because that’s the color right now instead of looking at her, the person and finding something that looks good.
A color and maybe a couple of more inches of fabric at the top. She looks like she’s got her arms clamped to her sides to keep it from falling off.
I liked it. Having said that there was a lot of washed out pastel colored dresses, but this was by far the best of the bunch. I think the hairstyle was needed to really show off the bodice and the collarbone area. If she had a necklace it would have been overdoing it. Overall she looked elegant and oldstyle hollywood. I can’t wait to see more of her, she’s quite the talent.
Gorgeous. A little bit of lipstick and some blonde highlights in her hair and it would be lovely.
Even though it’s a nude, the relative darkness compared to her skin works. I think it’s just too heavy a draping at the bottom. Something not as long and more form fitting to give it some shape below the waste. Her lip could be much stronger and get that hair off of her face (pulled all the way back, or cut shorter with some kind of structure).
Tee hee — below the waste! Did I write that. Oops. Freudian? Anyway, “waist” of course.
Most. Hideous. Color. Ever.
I hate to beat this dead horse, but seriously: necklace. A sparkly one. I think that would be enough to make it great, but color would make it fabulous!
I still call it Dusty Rose, Mockingbird. This is too grey- based for blush, it would be the blush of a corpse.
And corpse- like is the result of this hairstyle and pale skinned brunette in dusty rose. The bodice is too much for her little boobies, and it needs hoiking up, which would goof up all the other lines. The skirt would be nice but for the folds of the lining near her bony hips. Final tally: it would be a nice dress on someone else.
This is how you look when you try the dress on in the shop sans styling just to see if it fits.. I put more effort into going out on a saturday night.
She is cute though
All of the above, color, jewels, and a great new ‘do. She doesn’t even have a clutch to distract us with.
She’s lovely, but I don’t like anything about this dress! I’d just start over…
There are some colors that just make me mad. This is one.
As a would be dressmaker, I have trembling awe and respect for all those pleats on the bodice.
Other than that, it sucks. I want this color BANNED from formal events for ever. Its the color of your undies, not your gowns!
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I NEED TO GO LIE DOWN NOW.
@Batt, the thought of having to wear those undies makes me keep my better/less-depressing-colored undies clean.
And I also highly respect the dressmaking, but the wrinkly lining is not good.
She is so Vera Farmigas sister. same face. same talent
A cute bracelet, better color on the dress and the hair…someone please fix the hair! It looks like she just pulled it back because she’s cleaning out her garage and doesn’t want it in the way.
I LOVED her in this. The colour wasn’t really nude… I’d call it blush and it was SO pretty on her. Her make-up was subtle and pretty. Really one of the best dressed of the night!
