Kate Middleton wore the SAME DRESS two events IN A ROW. It’s kind of like when you get a new shirt and you really really love it and then you realize that you aren’t wearing it every DAY but you are wearing it every time you go out and therefore certain people in your social circle think you wear the exact same outfit every day. She IS just like us. Except I don’t accessorize my new favorite shirt with a knitted chapeau.

Kate is so lovely, but in the stair photo that dress is doing a hell of a number on her hips, making them disappear while broadening her shoulders. The colour is nice, but I’d prefer it with a different neckline and cut of skirt. HRH looks charming, and continues to remind me of my Gran. Also, HATS.
The pictures from the other event made me think it was more of a boatneck, and I liked that look a lot more.
She does have slim hips and broader shoulders (probably just from being so athletic and in such good shape), so she does have to be careful with those boatnecks. However, I love the pleating and the color is lovely on her. AND, no pantyhose! Victory in our time!
I like Camilla’s dress 10x better than Kate’s. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD?
Also, I don’t spend $2,000 on a shirt. or a dress. if I did, I seriously would have to wear it every day. For two years. (And that is not meant to be a judgment at all, btw. I mean, if I were a Dutchess, I’d be all for the occasional $2,000 dress.)
Ditto. To all of this. Except I’d maybe have to wear whatever it is every day for 3 years.
Kate wearing the same dress makes me feel better about the fact Ive been wearing the same shirt 3 days in a row. Lucky for me Im not important enough for anyone but my husband to notice.
Photos of Her Majesty in those pastels are great … they make me nostalgic for my own granny … Kate is wonderful, hat and all … and that last photo with the in-laws is also nice … looks like they are sharing a laugh … all good for our Kate.
The queen’s milliner is a genius with no rival. Her hats are the BEST and make me want to start wearing hats everywhere I go. I also love Kate’s and Camilla’s hats, but E2R’s are the best.
Sidenote: I love being able to use “the queen’s milliner” in a sentence and be totally serious.
Thank you for this, because that Katie Couric special last night made me stabby. Her questions were so cheesy and stupid-ill-mannered-American. ARGH.
The queen in pastels SOOTHES.
KC was HORRID, she actually slapped her guide on the wrist when she thought she said something witty. I’m sure he almost fainted.
OMG wasn’t that special the WORST??
Wurst?
Yes. Now I’m hungry….
I love the queen unreservedly. I think she is a delight and is probably quite funny. What an incredible role model!
And didn’t you LOVE that you could see the outline of her wristwatch under her glove?! Like she ever needs to keep track of what time it is!
The Queen always looks lovely. As does Kate. What a great time to be a royal!
I love that the in-laws love Kate.
*sigh* I seriously need to pack my stuff and just move across the pond. Not sure what the hubs and offspring would do though….
Can’t imagine wearing high heels at a garden party. They kinda tend to sink in the grass and make it difficult to walk!
I so want the life of anyone who might be invited to this shindig. Chuck is looking quite natty.
Someone put waaaaay too much powder on the queen.
Maybe the queen looks happy because she is going to retire after all the 50th anniversary hoopla? And maybe Charles look cheerful because he FINALLY gets to be king?
Erm…60th anniversary, and no, ERII will never “retire” because she believes too firmly in the vows she made to serve her “whole life.”
Yup. She’s hardcore.
Queen Liz I love you so! Thank you for bringing the bling.
How gorgeous is Prince Charles’s suit in that last photo? Talk about impeccably cut. And he does seem really happy, which isn’t something I often think when I see pictures of him.
Did Camilla finally start taking fashion advice from Kate?
Perhaps Charles is happy and thanking Kate for fixing up Camilla (in the last picture).
I like nothing about Kate’s dress. Color, fabric, strange proportions, inexplicable bulkiness. Nothing. I could also do without the lace triangle thingies on the hat.
So lovely to see people who dress well and appropriately. My life doesn’t’ often run to formal garden parties but it’s nice occasionally to aspire to something more than jorts, flip-flops and a tank top.
haha! I thought the same thing about Charles making Camilla carry his umbrella. I too think the Queen is looking really happy lately. It’s kind of neat seeing her loosen up a bit after so many years of Grim Face.
Everyone looks impeccable and enjoying the party.
I am pouting. No Prince Harry
Dang.
Hmm, I understand she’s trying to be down-to-earth by re-wearing the same outfit, but even I wouldn’t go to two public events in a row in the same dress. Also, I agree with Kimmy – the lace bits on the hat are a bit precious, and not in a good way.
I usually really like what Kate wears but this dress is bad. The fabric is too thick for summer, the neck line is doing weird things to her shoulders, and the color is all wrong for her. I wish she’s stop wearing it. She has so many better dresses to wear!
It’s all just so very royal and proper and boring. Which is as it should be, I know, but the pastels are just so pastel-y. There is nothing interesting here.
Good on Kate for wearing her outfits more than once, but maybe in future she can recycle more of the FABULOUS outfits and less of the boring ones?
I just watched The Diamond Queen documentary – the presenter (Andrew Marr – I think) was a bit of a pain and it was a touch royalist BUT I have a new-found appreciation for The Queen after it! 25 years old when she became Queen? Mad! I love that she wears lovely pastel colours and has such an interest in people. Ok..back to fashion. I agree that Camilla looks very well here. I’m not overly mad on Kate’s hat but I like the colour and the nude shoes…they’re a big improvement on the navy/black LK Bennets!!
I watched The Diamond Queen, I liked the interviews and the history and all. At least you Americans are paying attention, we got a visit from Charles and Camilla and hardly anybody noticed. So rude. And I dont see any Diamond Queen shows on CBC or CTV, or whatever. You all are having coverage on Monday and Tuesday morning as well as the concert. Good thing we get all the American channels too. Keep up the commentary through the Jubilee celebrations next week GFY girls, love it and you.

More Fulton Birdcage umbrellas! A piece of the Royal Wardrobe I can actually afford sometime in the lifetime of this universe.
I rarely notice men’s suits, but that is a sumptuous one Charles is wearing. It makes me want to pack a knapsack and run away to be an apprentice on Savile Row.
That is a really great suit, isn’t it? People always chide William about the fact this his suits “look like he borrowed them from his father”, but Charles always looks far more polished and dapper and cutting edge than his son does.
I like Camilla’s hat 10x more than I like Cathy’s. And as for Cathy’s dress….okay, I have given it some thought and I think Cathy has to stop trying to look like she’s the Un-Diana. That pink dress is a couple of sizes away from being the Queen’s own (but that shabby, ill fitting tailoring at the waist–the Queen would never put up with that). She’s dressing like an octagenarian, with the pastel proper hausfrau dresses and the beige plastic pumps with an inflated price tag.
When you can have Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood as your house designer but then you go out dressing like Her Royal Highness when you’re only what, 25? Someone’s talents are being abused.
I read an article somewhere where some press person asked Kate about her dress and she was like “I’ve worn it before…as you probably noticed.” Heh.
The dress looks awfully heavy for an 80 degree day though. How is that girl not all sweaty and icky like I would be? Le sigh.
Camilla’s umbrella looks like my umbrella, which was £5 from Primark! Frugal!
I totally do that shirt thing.
About those hats:
Queen: queenly.
Kate: fab.
Camilla: trying too hard.
I love Camilla’s hats — she has a flair for drama, that one. And she’s worn that necklace before and I can never decide if I like it or if it’s too … something. I think it’s too something. But overall I think the royals are just relieved the Future King is finally married, and that it’s turning out well. Huge sigh of relief all round. I cannot imagine that pressure.
It wasn’t even that long ago there was some serious talk about abolishing the monarchy. The Queen has scored an amazing PR coup, subtly, over the last decade or so. (And the royalist in me says, “Good for her!”)
