Guess what’s officially out today, just in time for your summer reading? That’s right: Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. WHAT UP, ROMANS?!
Oh, wait. That’s not today. Today is the publication day — the birthday! — of our young adult novel, Spoiled:
We’ve been talking about it a lot lately — thanks so much for your patience with that, by the way, but we have a feeling you understand — and we’re so, so excited for you guys to finally read it! What’s it about?
“The closest sixteen-year old Molly Dix has gotten to the red carpet is watching it on E!; gorgeous, spoiled Brooke Berlin was practically born on one in Beverly Hills. Their worlds couldn’t be farther apart, until Molly discovers the long-kept secret that sends her spinning into Brooke’s orbit: They share a father, Brick Berlin, movie megastar and tabloid regular. Intrigued (and a little bit terrified) by her Hollywood lineage, Molly dives into the deep end of celebrity life by moving to Southern California — where Brooke is waiting, armed with a smothering dose of ‘sisterly love’… and a plan.”
Want to read more? Here’s an excerpt.
Want to buy it? Please do! You can get it at Target, at Sam’s Club, at your local indie bookstore, at Barnes and Noble, and at Amazon! It’s on the Nook, the Kindle, and the iBooks store! If you show up at my house in the middle of the night, I’ll probably throw one at your head!
Want to come meet us at a book signing and get some awesome OPI nail polish? We can totally make that happen! Please come out and meet us:
June 5 at the Santa Monica Promenade Barnes and Noble. We’ll be doing a reading and signing at 2 p.m. That’s THIS SUNDAY! Come on down and meet us, and then enjoy the glorious Santa Monica ocean breezes. Ooh, you could go to the pier afterwards and ride the roller coaster — or the carousel, which perhaps you may remember from that episode of Beverly Hills, 90210,where Andrea offered Brandon the precious flower of her virginity when she thought he was leaving town.
June 7 at Chaucer’s in Santa Barbara. Reading and signing at 7 p.m. This is one of the best indie bookstores around — I have very fond memories of stopping here on trips up the coast. Come on by and meet us there! No one will be offering anyone her virginity. Well, as far as we know. I guess what you guys do in the parking lot is your own business.
June 11 at Vroman’s in Pasadena. Reading and signing at noon. This is the bookstore which I visited nearly every single weekend of my girlhood, so it’s an extra special stop on our Unofficial Book Signing Non-Tour. Bonus proximity to Pasadena’s Paseo, and Old Town, a.k.a.: myriad places for you to get snacks and cocktails afterward.
June 16 at Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco, from 6-8 p.m. We won’t be doing a reading at this event, because you guys will be too busy DRINKING COCKTAILS and getting OPI polish changes from the nice folks from Pinkies to listen to us. There’s even going to be a DJ – shopping, drinking, music, nail polish? This is going to be an amazing bash. Please do note that that Macy’s has set a purchase requirement — a $50 purchase gets you a free, personally signed book (and, of course, a meet and greet).
June 17 at Kepler’s in Menlo Park, reading and signing at 7 p.m. Stop two in the Bay Area, at an awesome indie bookstore. We’d be honored if you’d come out and start your weekend with us!

Coincidentally, today is also the 4th birthday of my twins.
On topic, though, I found the book a couple of weeks ago at Barnes & Noble in Columbus, OH and didn’t hesitate to buy it. And I ONLY buy books that I KNOW I’m going to want to read over and over again (Hunger Games trilogy or Harry Potter series, anyone?). It’s truly delightful and I can’t WAIT for the sequel. I only wish I lived in California so I could go to one of your signings. Sigh.
It was on my Kindle when I woke up this morning and it is exactly what I have been looking for after a long winter of 1001 Arabian Nights and Anna Karenina. I can’t wait to get home from work to read more!
Any chance you will be able to make a stop at the Books Inc in Mountain View while you are up here? If not, hopefully I can make it up to Kepler’s in a few weeks.
Aw, congrats ladies
. Loved the exerpt – it’s so evocative of the So Cal that exists in my head (which was totally and definitively shaped by that BSC Super Special when they all went to LA). Very excited to pick up a copy and read the rest. Do let us know when the book tour makes that East Coast swing!!
You just made my job finding summer reading for teens SO MUCH EASIER. It’s everything I had hoped The Carrie Diaries was going to be – well played!
NOOOOO!!!! I will be out of town the weekend you are here in SF! I absolutely would have been there to tell you both how much I love the Fug Girls. Bad timing.
Congrats, ladies. Please come to Austin, TX! I promise I’m not a scary stalker. I’ll take you out for margaritas!
Oh, forgot to add: I just downloaded the book on iBooks on my phone. It took about 10 seconds, and I feel sooo 21st century. Can’t wait to read it.
“The worst catastrophe since high-waisted jeans”
“How could a guy who’d given himself Lasik as an Arbor Day present be so blind?”
Bwah ha ha hah! More, please.
Congratulations you guys! Just wanted to say if I thought my hubby and kids wouldn’t notice I’d hop a flight from the east coast to catch a book signing or two with y’all. Saving Spoiled for beach reading so I can really wallow in it
but it’s KILLING me not to read it right now. Hugs and smooches for a job well done!
I am SO JUICED to GET SPRUCED for your SOIREE by THE BAY that’s bound to be so GLAM in SAN FRAN, gonna MAKE IT RAIN, be OFF THE CHIZAIN …
/kanye
When are you coming to NYC?!?
ARGH I’m only on page 12 and I’ve already laughed out loud on every single page! This is soooo good ladies!
You guys, it’s so good that I’m trying to pace myself with only a couple pages a day so I can savor it, but it’s hard! I’m really digging it!
So excited, ladies! Can you explain the purchase requirement thing at Macy’s? Do we have to purchase something to attend the event at all, or just to get the book?
I am SO excited to see you guys at Keplers!
You guys!
I just read the free excerpt and I was almost crying at the end of the second chapter! How could you do this to me! And I am loving the GFY-regulars references! J Lo’s shoe line and the voice of Tim Gunn? Brilliant! My copy (ahem, the copy I am buying for my friends birthday present, but I am stealing it from her) is coming tomorrow! Can’t wait! And I can believe that you are not having some kind of international tour, you have to come visit!
was just looking for details on the union square signing on the macy’s website but I could not find anything. Could you explain the whole $50 thing. Does it have to be spent in a particular department?
Their website will be updated soon — I am checking on answers to these questions right now. I think I know the answers, but I want to make sure you guys have the scoop!
Ordered! I’m out of reading material and I can’t WAIT for this! By the way, please please please come to Orlando! We have tons of badly dressed tourists to mock, I promise. And Cuban sandwiches. And a gangsta-rap group in red and white choir robes that performs randomly at the bus stop, apropos of nothing. Please?
I nearly had a cow when I saw it at Target last week… I didn’t think it would be there yet! I loved it too. A nice easy read (I like to alternate between YA and historic non fiction… don’t judge), and I really enjoyed it. The end was a littttle abrupt, but I’m definitely looking forward to the next book!
Kris, that does sound awesome…. I wish we could do a proper, old-school book tour. (That just doesn’t happen much anymore, sadly, unless you’re Sarah Dessen or someone similarly super successful.)
Here are the answers to your Macy’s questions, straight from our contact there, who has been awesome:
“Do we have to purchase something to attend the event at all, or just to get the book?” You do not need to pay $50 attend the event — it’s going to be in their Bar III department and anyone can come up and hang out and enjoy the polish changes, the cocktails, the DJ, I think there will actually also be snacks, etc. Anyone can come and browse and have fun for free. The $50 purchase gets you a book, which we will sign for you and do the meet-and-greet thing.
AND:
2) “Could you explain the whole $50 thing. Does it have to be spent in a particular department?” Macy’s has told us that the $50 does need to be spent in their Bar III department. (I BELIEVE that you can also buy a gift card if you don’t find anything that appeals, but I am not 100% sure.)
Keep the questions coming if you have them! We’ve never done an event like this particular one before, so we’re learning how it works along with you.
Please come to New York! Or Brooklyn! Or at least the tri-state area!
Got my copy last week and read it over the weekend – very cute!
I’m going to try to make it to the Pasadena event – I think it’s near Intelligentsia, and I never miss an opportunity to visit my favorite coffee place (or a bookstore).
Awesome! I’ve got 2 weeks left here in Westwood (go bruins!) and I can’t think of a better way to spend the day before my last final exam EVER than in Santa Monica with the Fug Girls.
Am I allowed to bring my “Fug Awards” book too?
This sounds hard to believe but I can’t fuggin’ find the book on the Amazon Kindle store! Could you please provide the link? Pretty please??!
You need to come to Orange County. Hello?
Hi! Is your book being released in the UK? I can’t see it on my Kindle. Will you be coming here for signings?
When I opened it on my Kobo, I don’t know if it was my plan to read it all in one day, but once I got a chapter in, I just had to keep going. I loved it. Of course, now I can’t enjoy reading it again today, lol, but it was worth it. Only, I think I ended up hating Molly! I love drama, and the villains are always my favourite, so when it was Brooke versus Molly, I was totally Team Brooke.
Congratulations ladies! I can’t wait to get my hands on this! I’m sure it’s MADE OF AWESOME!
Now… PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEEE come to the East Coast! Preferably Connecticut, but I’ll totally trek my way into NYC to see you guys!!!!
Please please please get Amazon to release this for CANADIAN Kindle customers. I just hear about the book today, read the excerpt and am DYING to read it but can’t unless it’s on the Kindle
:(
It’s supposed to be on Kindle for Canada, we’re looking into that right now.
It will not be on Kindle for the UK until we sell it to UK publisher, which hasn’t happened yet. Cross your fingers!
Got it last week. It arrived Friday night at my door, when I got back from the pub. I’m about half way through and can no longer count how many times I’ve laughed out loud. It’s not even my normal go-to genre, but am loving anyway. Especially all the Diet Coke references! Thanks for even more entertainment!
Thanks for your super quick reply Jessica! I’ll keep an eye on the Kindle store!
Oh man, the excerpt pretty much made me cry. Great work, ladies!
Just finished the book last night. I loved it. Delightful read, three dimensional characters, intellegent and snarky one liners, and a fair amount of celebrity slam which is the reason I love you guys in the first place. While the book was very young adult hollywood fic, I believe your voices came through, which is a tough thing to do, juggling high school over- dramatics, and sincere heart. I assume you won’t make it to Nebraska for a book signing, but if you did I would be there with Diet Coke and blueberry muffins…. and my resume… Hey, it can’t hurt to try right?!
I am SO terribly behind but CONGRATULATIONS, LADIES! I am so excited to read the book. Well done!
It would be so fabulous to meet youse guyse but dang, I’d be wracked about what to wear, know what I mean?!
Nice review on NPR! Congrats. You girls always make me laugh.
Reviewed ‘Spoiled’ last week on our podcast The Because Show: Episode #60! Shared with our audience how fun this book is (about 9 minutes, 45 sec in to the show) and gave away one delightful copy to a listener!
Here’s a link on iTunes if you want to hear http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-60-return/id336560437?i=94560869
I just started reading Spoiled on my Kindle last night and I’m loving it! Can’t wait to read more….
Loved Spoiled! But how can you diss Rosaro Dawson’s oeuvre that way? DuJour means guilty pleasure!
When is the sequel?!
