Technically, they’re not all little black dresses — some of them might just be little darkly colored dresses. And actually some of them aren’t little, and one of them isn’t a dress. So let’s revise: Basically, it seems like a lot of people have worn black in the last two days. Might as well herd them.

It’s not that I don’t understand the need to go casual in the winter climes; it’s that I appreciate when people actually try to do it in a creative, thoughtful, interesting way. I FREELY admit that if I were ever at Sundance, or indeed when I am at Fashion Week in February, I would/will totally go jeans, boots, sweater. But then again, nobody would/will be looking at me (thank God) so HA. Life under the radar rules.

So basically EVERYONE IN TOWN came to this thing, and bless them for it. Let’s look at the women who decided to go cocktail-length (or thereabouts).
Initially, this felt like someone loaded up an accessory Uzi and fired it at her naked body: small sparkles, large sparkles, tulle, and feathers. It looks like it might weigh three-thousand pounds and be on an endangered species list in at least three countries. And yet… you guys, I accidentally may have fallen in love with it. Like the first time I ever watched Center Stage, where I went from “Oh, LORD” to “NEVER LEAVE ME” in the span of its run time.

Well, as usual, her hair leaves me colder than a Diet Coke in the snow.
But the dress… I want to like it for its oxymoronic groovy simplicity, but every time I look at her torso, I get scared that she’s undergoing a spontaneous thoracotomy.
