She’s so charming, right? Of all the actresses that I just LIKE, McAdams is really right up there. I don’t get why she’s not a bigger star — although Lainey says she turned down Devil Wears Prada, which makes me worry that her team doesn’t have the most discerning eye. She’s the sort of actress that the women in the audience can imagine knowing. She feels like our smart, VERY pretty friend — the one we’d hate, but she’s really funny and kind of awesome and she’s dating Michael Sheen. She’s like the anti-Heigl; When you imagine hanging out with her, it doesn’t seem like you’d be spending the whole time talking about HER. That being said, let’s talk about her.

Love all the outfits and LOVE her!!
I LOVE that black dress!
On a related note, my little sister lives in Japan; peter pan collars and little girl accents like that are super popular right now, and they drive her unreasonably crazy with rage. But I feel like even Lil Sis could get behind a black leather Peter Pan collar on an adorable LBD!
The blue and the black are great! Granted, I adore her to pieces, but I especially love that she experiments a fair bit and doesn’t solely stick to the same old tried-and-true styles that so many actresses are married to. It’s refreshing, as she is herself.
I saw her with her sister at a Stanley Cup game this year – they are both crazy gorgeous. Rachel was wearing a Bruins shirt and had a beer in one hand and a pretzel in the other. Needless to say I LOVE her and will see any movie she’s in!
Ugh, I love her. I would like that white dress more if it were longer. It is very hard for me to picture her in the Devil Wears Prada (a movie I really like starring someone I also really like), but I can’t put my finger on why.
I am in love with that blue dress. That white coat. Her impossibly pretty hair. Pretty much everything.
the hemlines in this series are like the 3 bears of hemlines. the black and white dresses i think are too short, the last one is too long, and the blue one with the white coat is just right.
I actually love the fourth dress, but I wish she would go back to dark hair (course then my husband always says-”Look-it’s Kate from Lost” when we see a movie with her in it).
Love the blue and love the LBD…. the white is too short and the last one is fug.
Why are you ragging on the 4th one? That one’s divine and I want it. Nicole Kidman wore it too and didn’t look half as good as Rachel in it.
I just think it’s kind of bland.
Agreed. Now, if it were a splashy color – win!
Love the blue. Hate the white. I’d like the black if it weren’t for the Peter Pan collar. I don’t think anyone over the age of about 10 should wear those.
The last one is frustrating because I think it’s close to good, but the length and proportion aren’t right on her. It’s one of those dresses that’s really for someone taller. I think it looked better on Nicole Kidman.
Comparing my comment to Sam’s provides a perfect example of why we’ll never run out of things to talk about when it comes to celebrity clothes
I love number four! I don’t find it bland or even close to fug!!
She wore the white one on “Live with Kelly”, and she was saying regretting picking it before it was way too short when she sat down. I think she maybe have even said she looked like a cream puff. lol Indeed. Though Daniel Radcliffe who was sitting besides her was appreciative. lol
I love her style. The first look is particularly lovely. I would also take the black dress.
Aw, she’s awesome.
I like all these dresses (although the last one could stand to be a few inches shorter).
But girlfriend needs to take care of her roots. I think that blonde is too light for her, too.
No more pointy shoes please.
See, now, McAdams is one of those actresses I just don’t get and I kind of understand why she’s not bigger in the Hollywood stratosphere. And the outfits accentuate it all for me — “meh” to all of them.
Agreed; watching her in the Sherlock movies was like watching a piece of wood in Victorian costume.
I think it might be the writing — not her acting. She needs to make better script choices. Morning Glory was awful and this new one looks worse. But cameras lover her, she’s a natural for non-period romances … she was my favorite part of The Family Stone.
The only miss (barely) is the white doily dress. No sleeves, or shorter, and it would be fab across the board from me.
Like her! But that 60-yr old hair (color) is DRECK. And the clothes are ugly. She is a woman out of time…. Please get a good stylist!
Blue and white coat? Barbie goes into town for coffee. White? Barbie borrowing Midge’s picnic beach coverup. Black? S and M Barbie in drill team.
But she’s literally as pretty as a doll, and if she actually did describe the white one as too short and cream puff, I love her.
I like them all! I wish the white dress had been longer and that she had picked a better bra for it so it didn’t pull so much in her chest, but other than that, I think she knocked it out of the park.
love her!! love all but the last especially the lbd really really my style!
I wish she would stop bleaching her hair blonde. It does not suit her!
AGREED. I LOATHE her with this hair colour. She is so much prettier as a brunette. See Family Stone for reference.
I’d rather hang out with snippy, very opinionated Heigl, her mom and daughter.. loads of fun.. they seem to have a very close, loving, very interesting life..
I adore the first coat/dress combo with the shoes. Love the LBD, but hate the nude shoes with it. My first thought was that she was ankle deep in wet cement – OK, I’m old, my mind is always playing the tricks on me, but the nude shoes DIDN’T HELP.
I love all of these, except for the heavy shoes with the last dress.
meh. She seems too careful in her costume decisions. Cheezus, you’re young; have a nice young body. Wear it to the max, baybee! Old age comes too frickin’ early. I dressed conservatively when I was young and at university…shite, my body was rockin’. I shoulda, coulda…
LOVE! WANT! I adore every single one of those outfits and I wish they were mine! I love her & could totally be friends with her! She’s genuinely awesome, nothing phony about her! COVET!
Love her to pieces but dear God will someone please tell her how much better she looks as a brunette? Unless this is for a role for or something, then whatevs… but the blonde just washes her out. She is absolutely beautiful when she’s brunette!
Oddly, I love the shoes in pic #3 more than any of the actual outfits! I also agree with Christine and some others here that she should darken her hair. The blonde washes her out. Love her though – she seems so down to earth and approachable.
That white dress is killer and I want it forever.
While I would love the lbd, I actually much prefer the Munich dress on McAdams (She just needs better shoes there.), as her legs are nothing to write home about. However, her face is unimpeachable, and she’s an actress, so face is almost all that counts.
I am surprised by your commentary, Jessica. I thought McAdams IS a big time actress (Make that ACTRRRESS! She’s not exactly the subtlest, nor likely to be voted least likely to, upon later reflection, have turned out to have been a coke aficionado. I’m sorry. Have you seen her act? I mean, it’s definitely acting. But it’s definitely ACTING.) I thought she IS the Hollywood rom-com It Girl of today. I thought Heigl is over, although fun to still talk about because she was so NOT sympathetic, and it is a prerequisite that the rom-com queen has to be relatable to women. I would say that the only challenge to McAdams in the early-2000s rom-com dept. is the more nominally-parsimonious Adam, Amy Adams. But I don’t live in SoCal. You must know something about McAdams’ career that I don’t.
One of my best friends was in her class at university. She is, apparently, really nice. My friend says, “if you could pick someone to have this movie star thing happen to, it would be her.”
I love the white one especially and I live in forever envy of her amazing legs. It is REALLY short though. How do you sit in that?
My only complaint is the roots. How do these fabulously rich celebs go around with their roots hanging out? Is that just the look? Blech.
