Fugs and Fabs: The Game of Thrones premiere

fug-or-fab

I am pretty excited about the return of Game of Thrones. There is so much sister-loving, nephew-slapping, kid-pushing, family-murdering, dragon-mythologizing (and wintering) to come. Let’s look at them out of costume.

    No Khal Drogo pictures?? Sad.

And if people are hating on Theon already, well…he might as well just go into witness protection now.

So true. I have to admit, when I read the first book way before the series came out and found out what happened to Khal Drogo, I had to force myself the rest of the way through it. Madness!

Big fan of Natalie Dorner, and it’s nice to see her looking so lovely.

Like Number 5. Wow! But where’s Bean!????

Khal Drogo (Jason Mamoa) and Ned Stark (Sean Bean) are not in season 3 (or any upcoming seasons, for that matter).

Unless the producers decide to do some funky ‘flashback’ situations, that is. Which, as a huge fan of both, I would be in full support of!

Jason Momoa was at the premiere though; I saw some pictures elsewhere where he was posing with Emilia Clarke. Still gorgeous as ever. *sigh*

    Some fabulous looks, especially Khaleesi!

I have a major high-school crush on Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, but if we’ll going to get married he’ll have to change that name. I can not be Mrs. Let-me-Google-what-it-was-again. ;)

I’m concerned about Rose Leslie’s…erm, breasticular region.

I love this cast, though. They seem like they really love working together and always have a blast at events.

Emilia Clarke and Natalie Dormer look wonderful but I have to respectfully disagree on Michelle Fairly – that dress looks a little like what (I imagine) fancy ladies in the future would wear to the gyno.

    • HKS
      0

Perfect! There are no “like” buttons at the moment, so I had to post and say this is exactly how I feel about all 3 ladies – except I didn’t come up with a brilliant fancy lady gyno gown description of Michelle’s shapless dress.

Nathalie Emmanuel is a perfect illustration of how awesome natural hair can look. I so wish Michelle O and family would embrace more natural hair; straightened just can’t hold a candle to this. Look to Nathalie, and to Solange….

Also, Oona Chaplin is apparently the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, which explains the bowler hat, if by “explains” you mean “is reason enough never ever ever to wear.”

    • Esme
      0

Yes, she’s named after Charlie Chaplin’s last wife, who was the daugher of playwright Eugene O’Neill. I believe Chaplin married her when was a teenager, but they were happily married for ages.

How was there not a comment on Natalie Dorner’s expression in the first photo? It was almost as awesome as her dress.

Yes, was that the “Mikayla is not impressed” look?

She’s always got this “I know something you don’t know” sort of smirk. It worked in-character for both Margaery and Anne Boleyn, but seeing her do it on the red carpet too is making me wonder if she doesn’t have some sort of facial palsy or something.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but when there are border ads on the top of the page, it jumps each post up and down a few times before it gets ‘settled’ and makes it really annoying/difficult to click through and read quickly. Just FYI. Don’t know if it bothers anyone else – I’ll be back when this KIA ad is over.

    • menderz
      +1

OMG.. the ads! I understand that money needs to be made, and I don’t care about seeing ads, but please make them so they don’t completely mess with the functionality of the page.

I have said this 1000 times but please direct any commentary about the ads to our email, where maybe we can help you.

We would love to run this site without ads, but this is literally the only way we are able to remain in business. Thanks.

Facially, I find Emilia Clarke a bit overdone, she doesn’t need that amount of make-up. Love her dress, though. And may I add my sadness to the Sadface Where Is Teh Drogo Pile?

I agree, the eyebrows are distracting. Even just a bit softer would’ve been better.

I love the Khaleesi and think she is beautiful (although sadly her Breakfast at Tiffanys is not so good) but I don’t like that dress. Sansa and Arya both look lovely and age appropriate. Everything is wrong with Brianne’s outfit. That cut is not right for her at all and the skirt is Way. Too. Short.

Natalie Dormer’s dress looks amazing but her face. She has permanent duck face. I used to work with someone who was a dead ringer for Natalia Dormer and she was lovely and did not have permanent duck face, so I don’t know what is going on with Nat.

Theon sends me into almost as furious a rage as Joffrey. Maybe even more so because clearly Joffrey was messed up by psycho mom/alcoholic dad. WHAT IS THEON’S EXCUSE?

    • valueofaloonie
      +1

I have always wondered why Natalie Dormer insists on making that face all the time. It’s not a new thing, either, since I used to find it incredibly distracting on The Tudors, as well.

Gwendoline’s dress is scary short, but I was distracted from that by how tiny her head looks in that picture! It looks so disproportionate.

That picture looks like someone else’s head Photoshopped on her body, the sizing is so weird.

ITA! I think she needed to have bigger or non-slicked hair to balance her wide shoulders. That being said -she has amazing legs.

Maisie Williams is 15. She has time to learn eyebrow wrangling.

It’s been done here though, and very badly. Overdone is the main problem – spermy and shortened.

I would have no objection if she were leaving them natural.

  13. Neil

Natalie Dormer’s dress is what January Jones’ dress from the SAG Awards wishes it was, if that makes any sense. She looks great, as does Emilia Clarke, who I do think looks even better with her real hair color (not that she looks bad with Dany’s blonde hair).

I don’t like Rose Leslie’s dress – it makes her look weirdly elongated.

I love Allison Pill’s whole ensemble which is confusing me. Red and white? Not a fan of that colour combo. The breezy, unstructured shape? Shouldn’t like it but it’s amazing on her. Also I’ll take a pair of those shoes like immediately.

That dress in the last slide. The green and white one. I WANT IT. I to steal it off her body.

Should I be watching GoT? I feel like I should be…..

    • erin

Oh, you so should. It is amazing. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion makes the entire show.

DINKLANGE. You are my favorite, you and your scruffy shoes. I will love you forever. And when he won his Emmy, he was HANDS DOWN the best dressed dude there. Men of average height have no excuse when the Dinklage shows them up.

Scruffy shoes seem to be a thing on the red carpet now. Not sure why that trend started but have seen several men rocking them.

I feel like I have seen this discussed before but I have to ask because I cannot remember…is Tonks your least favorite MOVIE HP character or BOOK? Because I love Tonks in the books, as J.K. wrote her, but I feel like the movies did not bring her to life in the way I thought she deserved.

        • Vandalfan
          0

Amen. Book Tonks rocked. Movie Tonks was invisible.

I don’t pay extra to watch special channels, so these are all strangers, but the ladies seemed to be posing in summer, while the men snapped in winter.

          • Laura
            0

Agreed. I thought the same thing about Ginny Weasley, actually. Spirited, feisty character in the book, both of them, but in the films, Tonks pretty much had one line and Ginny pretty much had one expression and tone of voice.

Rose Leslie needs a BRA – girl, your girls are misplaced! Oh, but that pale skin against the green dress is lovely.

Ok, my roommate is 6’3″ and she manages to find great dresses of a reasonable length on a normal person’s budget. SURELY Gwendoline could’ve found one for her premiere. And girl, when you’re that tall, you also have to watch the torso: the waist on that dress is hitting you in the middle of the ribcage, so the shape of the dress and the shape of your body are fighting and it’s not a good look for either of you. (I know how hard that is sometimes, but again, it’s your PREMIERE and everyone loves Brienne. Surely someone could’ve helped.)

I desperately want Emilia Clarke’s and Natalie Dormer’s dresses. Sophie Turner doesn’t quite look like herself – is it just hair/make-up, or that she’s a teenager who’s changing?

    Don’t care. Love Peter Dinklage.

I cannot keep GoT characters, or actors apparently, straight. I need to start a notebook with a page for each kingdom while watching the show (we’re behind and just starting S2) and while viewing the slideshow I had to open up another tab to see who everyone plays!

Except for my beloved Tyrion, of course.

Sophie Turner’s dress makes her legs look stumpy. I can’t tell if it’s the length of the skirt, or the shoes, or a combination of the two. But her HAIR. And makeup. So so lovely.

Maisie Williams looks adorable, although it is somewhat surprising to me that she and Sansa are only like a year apart in age. Really love that dress on her. That’s a well-deployed floral right there.

I really wish Lena Headey would stop the Botox or whatever she is doing to her face. She’s already incapable of expressing any emotion beyond Haughty Disdain as it is. Pretty soon she won’t be able to emote at all. And her dress (jumpsuit?!) is hideous and deeply unflattering.

Oona Chaplin looks like a clown with that stupid hat. And that dress makes her look like she has a potbelly, which I’m sure she doesn’t. Doubt that “clown with a potbelly” was the look she was going for.

Emilia Clarke, Rose Leslie, and Natalie Dormer all look fierce.

Also…WHERE’S IAIN GLEN? He’s my favorite dude on that show.

  28. MelissaW

Lena Heady looks so very Lena Heady though – although I thought she had much shorter hair…maybe she just usually has it pinned up.

Loved Emilia (though, possibly less brow makeup) and Natalie (Queen of the Insta-smirk) and Nathalie (love her hair). I wish Sophie’s wasn’t black, though, but I did like the cut. Michelle’s is too much like a smock for my taste but she get’s total bonus points for looking amazing overall.

Gwen could have pulled it off if 1) was a shade longer and 2) had some killer over-the-knee boots – those shoes look like she stole them from a debutante’s closet.

DINKLAGE! And have you see HEADHUNTERS with Nikolai C-W as an ex-military bad guy? Love him.

Brienne (Gwendoline) is a badass so I am afraid to say anything :)

I think Maisie Williams looks lovely and age appropriate. She’s another one I hope goes down the Fanning route and not the Lohan route.

Where’s Joffrey? I always feel sorry for him – in real life only – because I’ve heard he’s a super nice guy in real nice and he plays such an ass. I bet he gets a lot of grief in public.

There is a lot of sloppy, stringy, unkempt, wackily-dyed, oddly-wigged and otherwise questionable hair going on here: Maisie Williams; Sibel Kekilli; Natalia Tena; Alfie Allen; Kevin McHale; Gwendoline Christie; Allison Pill; Peter Dinklage; and Isaac Hempstead Wright.

Natalie Tena’s might be the worst. It’s as if she failed Wigs & Drag 101. And her dress is not much better.

Firstly, HBO shoulda coughed up for a better backdrop for the photo op. It looks like they are waiting for #4 bus to the CBD!

Natalie Dormer’s dress is Roland Mouret, and she is rocking it HARD!

And, as a reader of the books, you need to know that Mr Stark does indeed fall off The Wall straight into the bed of a hot and randy wilding (cue shot of fur pile moving mysteriously rhythmically!) Your request is honoured, Madame Fug ;-)
