Fugs and Fines: Anne Hathaway

All of Anne’s post-Fantine public appearances have involved wearing black. Wouldn’t playing a dying French prostitute make you want to inject a little sunshine into your off hours? Somebody please tell her that Cosette is going to be fine, okay?

Where was she going in the Cousin Itt dress? It’s way too much for daytime, even if it were more attractive in and of itself. Unless she’s about to step into Club 21 in 1921, she should put this thing in the give-away bag. Second dress is cute.

    Um….

She’s posing in front of a freaking DUMPSTER. Doesn’t she have people to make sure this kind of thing does not happen?

    She’s outside of Dave Letterman’s.

I love what the Itt dress does for her shadow in pic 2. Doesn’t it look like a happy shadow, all tendrils swinging?

Even though it’s not sparkly, the Cousin Itt top made me think of Liza Minnelli, who likes to wear tops (especially sparkly ones) that fling their dangling parts here and there as she shakes and shimmies. This roused mixed feelings. I love Liza’s performances; but hate her wardrobe (with apologies to our Fug Girls, whom I know love them some sparkle).

The fringe gives her a shiny Bosom, singular, and ends at the widest part of her hips. Not flattering.

    Too costume-y.

This could be saved possibly by 1) fantastic shoes, 2) a kicky bracelet and/or clutch, and 3) brighter lipstick.

She wore a similarly cut white number on Live with Kelly this morning, it had big jewels randomly scattered around… could def be a fab or fug…

Is all the black a reference to her Cat Woman costume without being too on-the-nose? I think she’s lovely. Nice underplayed makeup too.

I’ve recently gone cropped again and from personal experience you feel rather self-conscious for the first few weeks, and that’s when you haven’t had all your hair lopped off for a film. Maybe she’s wearing lots of black because it feels relatively ‘safe’.

Fringe is a miss, but the other LBD is a hit … she absolutely carries the short hair with flair!

Don’t care for the fringe at all, but the second dress is cute, if a little too short. She’s rocking the hair, though.

And hooray! for her avoidance of either real or fake tanning.

I also agree she is rocking the hair. And the lovely smile helps alot too.

The Letterman Dumpster strikes again. Seriously, this needs to be a drinking game!

Honestly, she looks like a bowling pin in that first picture.

And something about the fringe makes me think Wookie…

Anne Hathaway apparently no longer has a teenager body. Hence the black. However, she should burn the fringe bowling pin thing.
She has a good face & eyes for that haircut; she looks cute. A cute young Liza.

that second dress is so chic with the flats

She looks oddly broad in the hips in both dresses. Maybe it’s not having enough hair on her head to balance things out?

THIS is why I can’t have short hair any more. My butt is too broad, and if I have short hair I look like Patrick the Starfish. Big butts need big hair.

Anne Hathaway really shouldn’t be having that problem, I think it’s the dresses.

Speaking for men everywhere (as is my wont), when a woman has one of these haircuts, we don’t think Audrey Hepburn, we think:
“Come with us quietly, Rosemary. Don’t argue or make a scene. Because if you say anything more about witches or witchcraft, we’re gonna be forced to take you to a mental hospital. You don’t want that, do you? “

One of my female colleagues said my hair was ‘very Mia Farrow’ this morning, so it’s not just a guy thing.

That’s cuz men everywhere want women to look as much like blow-up dolls as possible, not because big hair is flattering on all women. Just sayin’.

As long as she didn’t shimmy in it like she did with Oscars Dress No. 5 that year she hosted. She was trying so hard to hold up that show in the face of Franco’s Franco-nesssssssszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, so it was mildly excusable then. Not now.

I feel like I am the only person that thinks that haircut is NOT attractive on her at all…

I don’t love it, for sure, BUT did you see it when she first did it? This is SO MUCH BETTER now that it’s growing out.

I don’t like it either, not at all — makes her teeth, etc look enormous.
(The CU photo of her here in the sun is really flattering, though.)

I love the second outfit so much – especially the styling, with those flats; that’s the way to make it look young and swingy instead of a tad like a couch cushion – that I won’t even comment on the first.

Such … interesting dresses they’re making these days, out of a piano scarf, and a funeral lampshade.

She had her hair butchered ON CAMERA by for Les Mis. And it wasn’t like James from Elizabeth Arden was doing it. Someone belonging to SAG did it. Though I like her hair long better, I think she is making the best of it and her head looks rather cute here. Kind of reminds me of Julie Andrews.

Not so crazy about the frocks of late, though. The ruffly one from the other day was nice but too long. The fringy one here is just not flattering, and though the last black sheath isn’t bad, I don’t like it with the ballet flats. And why do they all look sooo the same?? I think she usually knocks it out of the park at appearances — beautiful, flattering and ladylike — but maybe the new hair is throwing her out of whack.

This morning on Kelly, she told how the actress made the first, drastic cut, and then, off-camera, her own hairstylist did the real haircutting and shaping. She said she cried a lot in the time between the filmed cut and the refined styling.

The second dress is very cute, but I think that photo proves how unforgiving flats are, even on looong legs like Hathaway’s.

As a side note, I hope she never messes with her face. At present she seems to be totally tweak-free, and so gorgeous.

Aw. I have never been able to wear heels, so I love it when I see cute ballet flats like that! But I guess I might change my tune if i were getting snapped by photogs all the time.

And as Jessica would say: SUNGLASSES! Everyone looks better in sunglasses. I’ve got mine on right now, with my dressing gown and slippers.

God no on the fringe dress. In fact, I haven’t been loving what Hathaway has been wearing lately…I’m getting the mod feel from her (maybe it’s just the haircut, but it feels like she’s dressing accordingly), and I don’t think she’s shaped for it (this is also my complaint with Michelle Williams, to some extent). She’s unbelievably beautiful and she’s got a beautiful body, but I don’t think the shape of any of these things is great on her.

Yay for flats!! I agree that the haircut is not the best for her–her features are too big, maybe? She’s not a waif/pixie by nature. However, she is doing the best with what she’s got, and I echo that I get the Julie Andrews vibe.

I hate flats on grown women who don’t have bambi legs. Sorry, flats only ever look cute on tall, lanky teenage girls. Never on adult women. I really like Anne’s short hair though, I think it suits her very well. The flapper dress gives her a surprisingly big bust. I would have never thought she had such big boobs. Optical illusion?

    Maybe not her best look.
