SAG Awards Fug or Fab: Gretchen Mol

fug-or-fab

From a distance, I thought this was nude, and I said to Jessica, “Oh, great. It’s like a Spanx cummerbund.”

But I actually think it’s gold, and now that I see more of it, I also think it’s flattering. The vaguely Star Trek quality of the neck — you know, the stuff they made the ladies wear that was both prim and strangely erotic at the same time — kind of works for me. And on a night where nobody really did anything truly risky or unusual, I appreciate anyone whose outfit may lead to a Googler finding this site by typing, “Star Trek sexy time yeeeeah.”

What do you think?

Elegant AND sexy… I’m so tired of skin. Even in LA, it’s January, right?

  2. Willow

I feel I shouldn’t love it but I really, really do, I kind of wish SWINTON had worn it.

  3. TaraMisu

I love this…. she does look very elegant. Well done!

I wish I could see her shoes, as a shoe whore I think that should be a requirement on the red carpet…..

I liked it for a minute until the top gold accent started reminding me of a polo shirt. Then the gold accents turned into a weird, waist scream emoticon with strange, elongated eyes and now I really don’t like it.

Maybe if the top accent were rounded or squared.

Yay, I’m so glad you put this one up. I loved it. Like I said in an earlier, off-topic post, it reminds me of some futuristic ice princess look we’d normally see on Cate Blancett,–and that is a wonderful, wonderful thing. Plus, Mol’s accessories are perfect.

  6. Carolina Girl

I thought this was Kate Hudson.

  7. Katie

This was actually one of my favorites from the night.

  8. Cat

I love this– it’s simple and elegant and really gorgeous. Sexy and flattering without being low cut or super clingy.

  9. Mahastee

    Love, love, love.

And yes, she REALLY looks like Kate Hudson in this picture.

  10. Lina

I really love this dress. I kind of wish the gold bits were a slightly darker shade of gold (or even silver instead), but that’s a minor quibble. She looks fabulous.

  11. Josephine

I’m not wild about the colors, but I she totally gets a pass because it’s such an overwhelmingly flattering shape/design on her. Many points for choosing something entirely for its ability to make the person in it look composed and beautiful–doesn’t matter if it’s not a dress for me.

  12. Sandra

She looks really good. It’s kinda nice to see somebody who gets dressed up by putting on actual clothes.

  13. vandalfan

It’s kind of like a Queen Ann neckline, but with lame’ terrycloth. I wish the midriff line did not have the little gathers or puckers on the seam.

  14. JanetP

Kira would totally wear this on Deep Space Nine for a fancy party!

    /end Star Trek geek

Just because I like that idea SO MUCH:

    Star Trek sexy time yeeeeah
    Star Trek sexy time yeeeeah
    Star Trek sexy time yeeeeah

    Now to the search machine!

Mustard isn’t a flattering colour for Gretchen Mol, but the dress is otherwise an interesting, retro-looking choice – it looks like a vintage 1940s dress.

  17. Anne At Large

I like this, it’s unusual and i think it’s very flattering. But if there had been a little more contrast, not blond, gold and white all the way I would have adored it.

  18. Sajorina

I LIKE IT! It’s different & has an Old Hollywood retro kind of feel! She styled it beautifully, so FAB!!!

  19. Megan

    Love this!

At first I thought it was Gillian Taylforth and I wondered what she was doing at the SAG awards (she’s a British soap actress). I like this dress. Unusual and it suits Gretchen Mol very much.
