The Tony Awards eligibility window closes TOMORROW, so naturally, shows are opening like mad. The latest is Suffs, which moves from Off-Broadway and stars veteran Nikki M. James, who won for her role in the original company of The Book of Mormon. She plays Ida B. Wells in a show about suffrage, picking up where “Well Done, Sister Suffragette” left off in Mary Poppins. (I’m just kidding. Well, not KIDDING per se, but being glib.)  I have not read superb reviews of the show itself, but the performers apparently are great, which honestly can do a lot for a flawed show. Long may it run. We need original theater!
