Most of yesterday’s stories about L’Wren Scott’s sad suicide led by labeling her as “Mick Jagger’s girlfriend.” That feels reductive and tremendously unfair; L’Wren Scott had thirteen years at Mick’s side, yes, but long before that she was a model and a stylist and a costume designer (she did Eyes Wide Shut, AND Elizabeth Taylor’s “White Diamonds” ads), and she was a talented fashion designer. Scott was an accomplished woman, though also obviously a troubled one, and to have her reduced to a plus-one in the stories about her demise felt wrong. So we decided to showcase some of the things she’s designed that we loved, in the hopes that her legacy won’t just be whose bed she shared.
