Who Fugged It Better: Miranda Kerr vs Michelle Williams

fug-or-fab

So, this is the same dress we saw on Michelle Williams a while ago, right? (Or, at least, a knock-off thereof.)

With some revisions, obviously. I liked it on Michelle, but it’s definitely sexier on Miranda – probably because the underpinnings are more obvious, for some reason, and it’s shorter (and the hem and shoes are saucier). Believe it or not, I actually enjoy it on both women. It’s bold — and thank God for bold, because without it we’d all be asleep on our desks, drooling into our keyboards until the S shorts out and we can’t really type anymore. Er. Not that that’s actually ever happened to me.

So who wore it better?

I think Miranda’s looks especially tacky. If the underpinnings were red, it would be great.

  2. birdgal

I just couldn’t get past the horrible makeup on Michelle; ergo, I had to give it to Miranda.

  3. linda

can i get a neither button, please?

  4. Aria

Michelle’s underpinnings were soooo much better! And I like the shorter length of Miranda’s, but not the front “tail.” Miranda wins on shoes. So, not sure, maybe it’s a tie?

  5. Chloe

    What Linda said…

It kind of looks like curtains from the Moulin Rouge. Or something.

  6. emster

Neither for me too. Michelle wore it worse by a hair (though I like her shoes better).

  7. akh

Michelle in that dress/hair/makeup looks like my grandmother.

  8. Chasmosaur

Miranda Kerr is smiling, as opposed to Michelle Williams’ “if I expose my teeth to sunlight my head will catch on fire, but I’ll oblige you with this awkward looking grimace” looks she affected since she became a serious, independent movie actress.

The smile makes Miranda’s hot mess look better. Or at least like she’s having fun being paid to wear couture.

  9. Chris

I don’t believe it’s the same. The lace is different.

  10. AM

The color is more flattering on Miranda, but Michelle wins the underneath part, so I don’t know?

  11. yeahandalso

Miranda’s is a bit trashier looking, but I still give her the win because Michelle’s was sooooooo matronly

  12. christine christine

I picked Michelle because she’s more like a real person wearing a real dress than a supermodel wearing a fantasy dress. It was more relatable, know what I mean?

  13. fritanga

Williams always “matronizes” her clothes, which is baffling because she’s such a young pretty woman. Maybe it’s her posture, maybe it’s her insistence on choosing dresses which do not flatter her. In any event, this looks like an entirely different dress on Kerr (although I don’t like the “white long-line bra” effect under the top part).

  14. The Other Molly

    I’m in the neither camp.
The dress is super fug, even with the saucier hemline.
Miranda gets negative 50 points for those hideous shoes.

  15. Christian

I agree, we need a NEITHER button.

  16. Art Eclectic

Yeah, a “Neither, they’re both heinous” button.

  17. witjunkie

They’re both so different. I liked this until I clicked on Michelle’s … I like that they are red, and NOT black. I like the neckline on Michelle’s, but I like the high neck on Miranda’s, too. I don’t like her underbit but I do like the length and scarfiness of the skirt…I think they’re both OK.

  18. dvj

Not the same dress. Even remotely, despite both being brothel lace over white slip/bodyshaper. Miranda’s is trashy. So Miranda “wore it better” in that she seems happy to be trashy, and Michelle almost always wears everything worse because she looks so grim and rigid.

  19. Mary

The neckline and shoulders are so, so very severe. Miranda’s alterations come across as a bit trashy, but I prefer that over the extreme matronly look of Michelle. I really think it’s the hair that softens Miranda’s … and the way better shoes.

  20. AMS

I have no love for either, having long held an irrational bias against red lace, but I have to say, Miranda is rocking hers in comparison to a wan, closed-up-tight Michelle. My first thought when I saw these was of Michelangelo and Bernini’s Davids (I clearly need more sleep): Michelangelo’s is truly beautiful on its own, so smooth and strong and balanced, but when you see it next to Bernini’s, which has such tension, intensity and life in its angles and in the coiled figure of David, about to strike, Michelangelo’s suddenly looks staid, placid and a bit dull. The same for these dresses. Michelle’s is perfectly fine on its own (for a garish red lace dress), but the fall on the front of the Miranda’s, coupled with her smile and liveliness, and even those really odd shoes, is giving the whole look so much more life and movement that I have to recognize.

  21. Halo

Really? Miranda’s trashy dress and look is horrible, and Michelle pulled off a sweet, slightly vintage vibe really well, yet the former is winning in the poll. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but modest shapes don’t always translate into matronly for me. However, I am weary of skin, skin, skin.

  22. christine christine

AMS! You could write a thesis on this!

  23. Jill

I can’t decide if I like or hate either one more or less. It’s kind of the Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield of dresses, though, isn’t it?

  24. Mary

I don’t think I noticed this at the time of the original post (and maybe someone already said it — didn’t go back to check), but Michelle Williams looks eerily like Joan Crawford in that photo. A peroxide-blonde Joan Crawford.

  25. Chasmosaur

    AMS:

Wow! I didn’t know Michelle Williams was working with a dress that several other people had already altered and had an inherent weak spot! ;) :p

But if we’re talking about Davids, then the real question is is either of these dresses more fabulous than Donatello’s bronze? ;)

  26. Alexandria_Kelly

It’s a tough one for Michelle, because let’s face it – everything looks better on Miranda.

M-Kerr’s shoes are what knocks this look out of the stadium though. Wowsers has that girl got some pins!

  27. Julia

Isn’t it also similar to the one Rachel McAdams wore a couple of months ago? Although I seem to recall her’s being floor length.

Michelle’s main problem is the weird, grandma dye job on her hair. It makes her look so washed out. Changing her hair and make up would have made the look a million times better.

  28. Dani

I believe Miranda’s dress is by ‘Lover’. Rachel McAdams’s was Marchesa. Don’t know about Michelle’s, but I’m pretty sure it’s a different brand again.

I adore Miranda. Would have liked it if the underneath was less jarring, but still I think she’s gorgeous and I want those shoes!

  29. Dani

    Ah, Michelle Williams’s was Erdem.

  30. Infoqueen

Michele’s is a bit mumsy, but I have to give it to her: Miranda’s bag is all wrong, her shoes look painful, and I don’t care for the crotch curtain.

  31. Veronica

I actually like them both. They both took very different takes on it, but they both work for each girl’s style. Though I will say I think Miranda’s would have looked a smidge better with a slightly longer underpining hem. Looking at it, I’m wondering if that’s actually a body slip, and the dress itself is sheer.

  32. vandalfan

Neither one is particularly my favorite, but I love the ribbon belt on Contestant #2, Whatshername. On Michele, the waistline just looks unfinished.

  33. jenny

I did vote, but I would just like to say that I feel that “who wore it best”s between models and regular humans should be banned. US and People are always doing this and it drives me nuts. As human beings, we just can’t help voting for the person who’s job is…wearing clothes well.

  34. jenny

    WHOSE. *tired*

  35. NYCGirl

Michelle. Miranda’s is kind of trashy-looking, with that hem.

  36. Sajorina

Two similar dresses worn by very different women… I like them both; the dresses & the women! What ruins Miranda’s look for me is the purse, which I don’t like; while what ruins Michelle’s look for me is the shoes, which I like… just not with that dress!

  37. julie

I agree that it’s not the same dress. Apart from the fact that they are both red lace, they have very little in common. And, the lace is totally different.

  38. Kasey

Miranda wore it better just because the overall tailoring was better, however the long hanky hem in the front that looks like she has the mensies and forgot to throw the tissue away well…. ugh. Michelle’s hair was awesome though, just can’t get past that glorious hair.

  39. Bambi Anne Dear

    I’m also on team Neither.

  40. Glenn

Miranda Kerr just gave BIRTH. Christ almighty.

  41. Sneha

OH Girls! This is a LOVER piece.

i think she rocks it, but it looks much better in black as worn by Christine Centenera- Harpers Bazaar (AUS)
